    ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY OF METHANOLIC EXTRACT FROM THE TISSUE OF LITOPENAEUS VANNAMEI (BOONE, 1931)

    Objective of the present study was to evaluate the antioxidant activities of methanolic extract from the tissue of L. vennaemi. The methanolic extract was examined for the antioxidant activities such as total antioxidant assay, ABTS radical assay, DPPH radical assay, hydroxyl radical assay and superoxide radical assay. The methanolic extract showed antioxidant activities on dose dependent manner. The results showed the total antioxidant capacity of 10.55% - 52.43% at 50 - 250 μg/ml, ABTS radical scavenging activity of 7.88% - 49.98% at 25 - 125 μg/ml and DPPH radical scavenging activity of 12.87% - 59.81% at 10 - 160 μg/ml concentration respectively. In addition the hydroxyl radical scavenging activity of methanolic extract showed 6.37% - 40.55% at 25 - 125 μg/ml; whereas the superoxide radical scavenging activity of methanolic extract recorded 14.03 - 48.01% at 50 - 250 μg/ml concentration. On basis of the above results of the methanolic extract from the tissue of L. vannamei it could be suggested as good natural antioxidant product to be used as food and in development of future drug in pharmaceutical industries.
