ANTIDIABETIC ACTIVITY OF AERIAL PARTS OF TINOSPORA CORDIFOLIA (WILD) AGAINST STZ INDUCED HYPERGLYCEMIA
Prabhat Kumar Saxena*, D K Sharma, Archana Srivastava

The antidiabetic activity of extracts of Tinospora cordifolia (Wild.) aerial parts in different solvents (Pet. Ether, Methanol and Aqueous) was studied on streptozotocin (STZ) induced diabetic albino rats using glibenclamide as standard drug. Bio-chemical estimation of rat was done viz. blood sugar level, glycosylated haemoglobin (HBA1C), C-peptide, triglyceride (TG) and total cholestrol (TC) after and before administration of extracts over 28 days. Tinospora cordifolia extracts were found to be remarkably active as antihyperglycaemic agent. It reduced blood glucose level, triglyceride and total cholesterol levels. The optimum result was shown in concentration of 400 mg/kg.
