    A method of sensing the air/fuel ratio in a combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine that may be easily implemented by a respective low-cost device includes a pressure sensor and a learning machine that generates a sensing signal representing the air/fuel ratio by processing the waveform of the pressure in at least one cylinder of the engine. In practice, the learning machine extracts characteristic parameters of the waveform of the pressure and as a function of a certain number of them generates the sensing signal.

  • IMAGE FORMING APPARATUS

    A phase synchronization mode is performed at a time of subsequent rotation after image formation. After detection of a phase difference by phase detecting sensors 103a, 103d, rotation phases are synchronized between driving motors 111, 102d after a lapse of a variable time. Specifically, timing for starting the rotation phase synchronization is shifted by 20 msec for each phase synchronization control so as to vary angular positions of the photosensitive drums 101a, 101b, 101d at which phase control is started. In this manner, sliding-contact positions are distributed and development and concentration of sliding-contact damages are prevented on the photosensitive drums 101a, 101b, 101d.

  • Use of Machine Learning for Classification of Magneto Cardiograms

    The use of machine learning for pattern recognition in magnetocardiography (MCG) that measures magnetic fields emitted by the electrophysiological activity of the heart is disclosed herein. Direct kernel methods are used to separate abnormal MCG heart patterns from normal ones. For unsupervised learning, Direct Kernel based Self-Organizing Maps are introduced. For supervised learning Direct Kernel Partial Least Squares and (Direct) Kernel Ridge Regression are used. These results are then compared with classical Support Vector Machines and Kernel Partial Least Squares. The hyper-parameters for these methods are tuned on a validation subset of the training data before testing. Also investigated is the most effective pre-processing, using local, vertical, horizontal and two-dimensional (global) Mahanalobis scaling, wavelet transforms, and variable selection by filtering.

  • APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR TESTING STATE OF CHARGE IN BATTERY

    Disclosed is an apparatus and method for estimating a state of charge (SOC) in a battery, in which the battery SOC is estimated using a fusion type soft computing algorithm, thereby accurately estimating the battery SOC in a high C-rate environment. The apparatus includes a detector unit for detecting current, voltage and temperature of a battery cell; and soft computing unit for outputting a battery SOC estimation value of processing the current, the voltage and the temperature detected by the detector unit using a radial function based on a neural network algorithm. Especially, the soft computing unit combines the neural network algorithm with any one of a fuzzy algorithm, a genetic algorithm (GA), a cellular automata (CA) algorithm, an immune system algorithm, and a rough-set algorithm, and thereby adaptively updates the parameters of the neural network algorithm.

    An intrusion detection system for detecting and defeating unauthorized intrusion within a computer network of an infrastructure element of a high value target, the system including a pre-processor configured to receive data from a computer network of an infrastructure element of a high value target and to output filtered data, a grammar applicator configured to apply grammars produced using a grammar based compression and learning algorithm to the filtered data, a decision making device configured to provide a recommendation based on an input from the grammar applicator as to whether the data in the computer network constitutes an unauthorized intrusion, and an emulator in communication with the decision making device configured to expand a sampling of the filtered data using a polymorphic transformation to allow the decision making device to further analyze the sampled data to determine an unauthorized intrusion. A method and a computer software code are also disclosed.

    A method for generating individual glyphs, and a system and method for inspecting individual glyphs are disclosed. The system includes a true resolution imaging device configured to capture an image of a printed glyph. A registry service has a database for storing other glyphs and/or parameters of other glyphs. An analysis system, in selective communication with the registry service, includes computer software configured to receive the captured image; an image analysis program configured to perform forensic analysis on the received image to determine parameter(s) associated with the glyph; and an image comparison program configured to i) compare the glyph parameter(s) with parameters stored in the registry for other glyphs or with parameters determined, by image analysis program, for the other glyphs stored in the registry, and ii) generate a probability that the glyph and object are authentic based upon the comparison.

The call center may be accessed by telephone, computer, or via another type of customer premises equipment over a voice or data network. The RFID tag may be an identification tag provided to the customer for access to the call center or may be a tag associated with the customer and not specific to the call center. The call center may route calls based on routing information contained in the RFID tag information, customer identity and previous sessions with that customer, personal and demographic information and statistical support records for other sessions involving customers with similar personal and demographic information.

    The Bio-Signature Association approach disclosed herein addresses the above stated needs by providing a method and computer software component for automatically and intelligently managing the inbox based on the ever-changing behavior of the user. Theoretically, Emails should be treated as an event where an action may be taken or initiation of an action. When the user casually acts upon an inbox or an individual email, there is unique pattern associated with such operations. For example, one might view emails from families first followed by colleagues or so-call "internal" fellow workers. These viewing habits and patterns are considered as unique "signature" for each user in this invention.

    Example apparatus, methods, and computers support data de-duplication indexing. One example apparatus includes a processor, a memory, and an interface to connect the processor, memory, and a set of logics. The set of logics includes an establishment logic to instantiate one-to-many de-duplication data structures, a manipulation logic to update the de-dupe data structure(s), a key logic to generate a key from a block of data to be de-duplicated, and a similarity logic to make a similarity determination for the block. The similarity determination identifies the block as a unique block, a duplicate block, or a block that meets a similarity threshold with respect to a stored de-duplicated block accessible through the dedupe data structure. The similarity determination involves comparing the block to be de-duplicated to a stored block available to the apparatus using a byte-by-byte approach, a hash approach, a delta hash approach and/or a sampling sequence approach.

According to one embodiment, an apparatus includes non-transitory storage media configured as a cache associated with a computing machine. The computing machine is a member of a cluster of computing machines that share access to a storage device. A cluster caching logic is associated with the computing machine. The cluster caching logic is configured to communicate with cluster caching logics associated with the other computing machines to determine an operational status of a clique of cluster caching logics performing caching operations on data in the storage device. The cluster caching logic is also configured to selectively enable caching of data from the storage device in the cache based, at least in part, on a membership status of the cluster caching logic in the clique.

  • CONVERSION OF CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION TO AN ABSTRACT MODEL OF THE CIRCUIT

    A system and method is disclosed for converting an existing circuit description from a lower level description, such as RTL, to a higher-level description, such as TLM, while raising the abstraction level. By changing the abstraction level, the conversion is not simply a code conversion from one language to another, but a process of learning the circuit using neural networks and representing the circuit using a system of equations that approximate the circuit behavior, particularly with respect to timing aspects. A higher level of abstraction eliminates much of the particular implementation details, and allows easier and faster design exploration, analysis, and test, before implementation. In one aspect, a model description of the circuit, protocol information relating to the circuit, and simulation data associated with the lower level description of the circuit are used to generate an abstract model of the circuit that approximates the circuit behavior.

  • FORENSIC IDENTIFICATION SYSTEM USING CRANIOFACIAL SUPERIMPOSITION BASED ON SOFT COMPUTING

    This invention relates to a method and an automatic system for assisting a forensic anthropologist in the task of identification by means of craniofacial superimposition. First, the system automatically builds a three-dimensional model from a device providing partial views of the skull. Said model is then superimposed onto a photograph of the disappeared person, modelling the inherent uncertainty to the pairing of two separate objects: a skull and a face. Finally, the system emits a recommendation from the result of the identification process to the forensic anthropologist.

    The disclosure is directed to dynamic insertion and removal of virtual software sub-layers. In one example, a virtual layer associated with a software application is virtually installed and activated in a computing device. A virtual sub-layer associated with a component of the software application is dynamically inserted in the virtual layer. The virtual layer remains active during the dynamic insertion of the virtual sub-layer. In certain embodiments, a process is executed from the virtual layer, a determination is made as to whether the process launched before or after the insertion of the virtual sub-layer, and the inserted virtual sub-layer is selectively made visible or invisible to the process based on the determination.

  • HARDWARE ACCELERATION OF A WRITE-BUFFERING SOFTWARE TRANSACTIONAL MEMORY

    A method and apparatus for accelerating a software transactional memory (STM) system is described herein. Annotation field are associated with lines of a transactional memory. An annotation field associated with a line of the transaction memory is initialized to a first value upon starting a transaction. In response to encountering a read operation in the transaction, then annotation field is checked. If the annotation field includes a first value, the read is serviced from the line of the transaction memory without having to search an additional write space. A second and third value in the annotation field potentially indicates whether a read operation missed the transactional memory or a tentative value is stored in a write space. Additionally, an additional bit in the annotation field, may be utilized to indicate whether previous read operations have been logged, allowing for subsequent redundant read logging to be reduced.

  • METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR POPULATING A SOFTWARE CATALOGUE WITH SOFTWARE KNOWLEDGE GATHERING

    A method and a corresponding apparatus for inventoring software products on a plurality of computer are proposed. The inventoring system aims at populating a software catalogue without the manual intervention of an administrator. The present invention reduces the cost of producing and maintaining a comprehensive knowledge base (the catalogue) which contains definitions of software products and the related signature. Information about software products and their related signature is obtained through a process which gathers information from a potentially very large collection of computers. This model is flexible, has rich behavioral options, can be solved directly, and is low complexity. One example method generally includes determining a first state of a neuron model at or shortly after a first event, wherein the neuron model has a closed-form solution in continuous time; and determining a second state of the neuron model at or shortly after a second event, based on the first state. Dynamics of the first and second states are coupled to the neuron model only at the first and second events, respectively, and are decoupled between the first and second events.

The error events are collected and then analyzed by aneural network system to assign the error event to an error category. A corrective action is executed on the production resource.

  • ACCURATE AND FAST NEURAL NETWORK TRAINING FOR LIBRARY-BASED CRITICAL DIMENSION (CD) METROLOGY

    A method and system for wastewater treatment based on dissolved oxygen control by a fuzzy neural network, the method for wastewater treatment comprising the following steps: (1) measuring art inlet water flow rate, an ORP value in an anaerobic tank, a DO value in an aerobic tank, an inlet water COD value, and an actual outlet water COD value; (2) collecting the measured sample data and sending them via a computer to a COD fuzzy neural network predictive model, so as to establish an outlet water COD predicted value, (3) comparing the outlet COD predicted value with the outlet water COD set value, so as to obtain an error and an error change rate, and using them as two input variables to adjust a suitable dissolved oxygen concentration. Accordingly, the on-line prediction and real-time control of dissolved oxygen wastewater treatment are achieved. The accurate control of dissolved oxygen concentration by the present method for wastewater treatment can achieve a saving in energy consumption while ensuring stable running of the sewage treatment system, and the outlet water quality meets the national emission standards.

  • SUPPORT VECTOR MACHINE-BASED METHOD FOR ANALYSIS OF SPECTRAL DATA

    Support vector machines are used to classify data contained within a structured dataset such as a plurality of signals generated by a spectral analyzer. The signals are pre-processed to ensure alignment of peaks across the spectra. Similarity measures are constructed to provide a basis for comparison of pairs of samples of the signal. A support vector machine is trained to discriminate between different classes of the samples. to identify the most predictive features within the spectra. In a preferred embodiment feature selection is performed to reduce the number of features that must be considered.
