    A method for self-compensating a method includes the steps of rotating the patterned element relative to the read heads, the rotation about the axis to a plurality of first angles covering a range of at least 360 degrees; obtaining, at each of the plurality of first angles, first angular readings for the m measure read heads and for the reference read head; calculating a first array for each of the m measure read heads, each first array including, for each of the plurality of first angles, a difference in the first angular readings of the measure read head and the first angular reading of the reference read head; calculating, for each of the m measure read heads, at least one first spectral component based at least in part on the first array; calculating, for each of the m measure read heads, at least one second spectral component, the second spectral component based, at least in part, on the at least one first spectral component and on estimates of the second angles of the m measure read heads; and recording, for each of the m measure read heads, the at least one second spectral component.

  • METHOD FOR DETERMINING A VISCOSITY PARAMETER OF A MOTOR OIL AS WELL AS A CONTROL DEVICE FOR AN ELECTRONIC ENGINE CONTROL

    A method for determining a viscosity parameter of a motor oil in an internal combustion engine, wherein a plurality of operating parameters characterizing an operating state of the internal combustion engine are detected and/or determined for an electronic engine control. Several parameters allowing at least a rough prediction on the viscosity of the motor oil are each evaluated for an individual prediction on the viscosity of the motor oil at different times from these operating parameters, and changes in the individual predictions for comparable working points of the internal combustion engine relative to a state of new motor oil are detected. The viscosity parameter is determined from the changes in the several individual predictions. A corresponding control device for the electronic engine control is also provided.

  • Board Sports Sensing Devices, And Associated Methods

    A system assesses activity of a sportsman engaged in board sports. At least one sensor detects movement of the sportsman, and a processor processes data from the sensor to assess activity of the sportsman. Activity of sportsmen engaged in human powered sports is compared. A plurality of activity sensing units is associated with the sportsman. Each of the units (a) attach to one of either the sportsman or to a human powered vehicle ridden by the sportsman, and (b) wirelessly communicate activity to a remote location. The activity comprising one or more of airtime, speed, drop distance, power and energy absorbed. A database, accessible by Internet and connected to the remote location, provides access to the activity via the Internet.

  • METHOD FOR OPERATING A DRIVE TRAIN

    A method of operating a drive train of a motor vehicle which includes at least an electric machine, as a drive aggregate, and a transmission which is positioned between the drive aggregate and an output, and a starting element positioned between the electric machine and the transmission. For and during the start, an expected drive resistance is calculated and then, if the expected drive resistance is lower than a first threshold value, starting takes place with the starting element engaged via the electric machine from a standstill, and if the expected drive resistance is larger than the first threshold value, starting takes place with the starting element disengaged, the electric machine is operated with a defined machine rotational speed in a rotation speed control mode, and thereafter, the starting element is engaged such that it transfers starting torque which depends on the a driver request.

  • WALKING ASSISTIVE SYSTEM

    The present invention discloses a walking assistive system comprising a motion module, a current detecting module and a central control module. Each motion module includes omni-directional wheels, motors, shaft encoders and servo controllers. The omni-directional wheels are connected to and driven by the motors. The motors are connected to the shaft encoders, and the rotation speed values are generated corresponds to the rotation speed of the motors by the shaft coder. The servo controllers connected to the shaft encoders and the motors receive the rotation speed values and control the motors. The current detecting modules connected to the motors detect the current of the motors and generate current values correspondingly. The central control module connected to the motion control module and the current detecting module controls the platform compliant motion control modules according to the rotation speed values and the current values.

    A final drive comprising a lubrication system is provided. The final drive comprises a differential housing and a reaction plate, wherein the reaction plate is mounted to the differential plate. The final drive also comprises a shaft and a friction disc. The shaft is rotatably disposed with differential housing, and the friction disc, which has a lubrication hole, is mounted about the shaft. The lubrication system comprises a differential supply passage positioned in the differential housing, and it also comprises a plate passage positioned in the reaction plate. The plate passage is in fluid communication with the differential supply passage, and the plate passage is in intermittent fluid communication with the lubrication hole.

    A rolling bearing includes: an inner ring; an outer ring; a plurality of rolling elements; a retainer; and a sealing member. First to third lubricant reservoir portions that store the lubricant are respectively formed on the radially inner side of the retainer, on the inner side of the sealing member, and in an inner peripheral surface of the outer ring at a position near a raceway. An inclined first guide surface that guides the lubricant from the second lubricant reservoir portion toward the raceway is formed in an inner surface of the sealing member. An inclined second guide surface contiguous with the first guide surface and guiding the lubricant toward the raceway is formed in the inner peripheral surface of the outer ring. The first lubricant reservoir portion of the retainer is in communication with pockets of the retainer, which accommodate the rolling elements.

    A composition for a wear-resistant and low-friction coating is presented. The coating composition includes a hard ceramic phase, a metallic binder phase and a lubricant phase.   • LUBRICATION OF A PLANETARY GEAR DEVICE

    A vehicle motive power transmission apparatus includes: a planetary gear device; an oil pump for sucking oil present in an apparatus case; a one-way clutch that transmits normal-direction rotation output of the planetary gear device to the oil pump, but does not transmit reverse-direction rotation output of the planetary gear device to the oil pump; an oil tank which is provided in the apparatus case, and which is provided with a first introduction portion that receives oil that is splashed upward as a gear in the apparatus case rotates in a normal direction, and a second introduction portion that receives oil that is splashed upward as the gear rotates in a reverse direction; and an oil passageway that supplies the planetary gear device with oil present in the oil tank or oil sucked by the oil pump.

  • LUBRICATION SYSTEM FOR AIRCRAFT ENGINE

    A lubrication system for an aircraft engine includes a lubrication fluid tank and a fluid passage communicating with the tank to define an entry of the passage inside the tank. The entry is positioned in a location submerged in the lubrication fluid for delivery of the lubrication fluid under a pressure differential, from the tank to the lubrication system regardless of the tank or aircraft attitude.

  • LUBRICATION STRUCTURE FOR WORKING DEVICE

    A lubrication structure for a working machine is provided that can evenly supply lubricant to a sliding contact surface between an eccentric cam and a crank member regardless of lubricant used and the use environment. A driven gear that engages with a driving gear connected to a driving source and rotates, is accommodated in a chamber in a case. An eccentric cam is provided on a surface of the driven gear, and connected to a coupling pin in a blade through a crank member. A fitting ring part is provided in one end of the crank member, and the eccentric cam is inserted into the fitting ring part so as to rotate relative to the fitting ring part. An annular groove is formed on the inner surface of the fitting ring part which faces the outer surface of the eccentric cam. The annular groove communicates with a first chamber via a first lubricating passageway and also communicates with a second chamber via a second lubricating passageway. The pressure in the first chamber is higher than that is the second chamber.

    The disclosure provides methods and materials for imparting corrosion resistance to a substrate, as well as the corrosion-resistant substrates prepared accordingly. Compositions and methods include nonpyrolyzed, silicon-based polymer coatings prepared on substrates. The prepared coatings are highly stable and resistant to corrosion. The invention finds utility, for example, in the fields of surface and coating chemistry.

  • Lubricant additive composition suitable for lubricating, preventing deposit formation, or clean-up of two-stroke engines

    A lubricant composition with a total nitrogen content of 0.1 to 0.25 percent by weight suitable for lubricating a two-stroke engine comprising an oil of lubricating viscosity, a synthetic ester, at least one condensation product of a fatty acid having 12 to 24 carbon atoms with a polyamine, and a Mannich dispersant.

  • Production of a structured hard chromium layer and production of a coating

    A method for producing a structured hard chromium layer, during which chromium from an electrolyte is deposited onto a workpiece, which contains: a) a Cr(VI) compound in a quantity corresponding to between 50 and 300 g/l of chromic anhydride; b) 0.5 g/l to 10 g/l sulfuric acid, and; c) 5 g/l to 15 g/l aliphatic sulfonic acid having 1 to 6 carbon atoms. The electrolyte comprises substantially no compounds from the group consisting of ammonium molybdate, alkaline molybdate, alkaline earth molybdate, ammonium vanadate, alkaline vanadate and alkaline earth vanadate, ammonium zirconate, alkaline zirconate and alkaline earth zirconate, and is processed with a cathodic efficiency of 12% or less. A method for producing a coating, to a structured hard chromium layer, a coating and an electrolyte.

  • Metallurgical powder composition and method of production

    An annealed pre-alloyed water atomised iron-based powder suitable for the production of pressed and sintered components having high wear resistance is provided. The iron-based powder comprises 10-below 18% by weight of Cr, 0.5-5% by weight of each of at least one of Mo, W, V and Nb, and 0.5-2%, preferably 0.7-2% and most preferably 1-2% by weight of C. The powder has a matrix comprising less than 10% by weight of Cr, and comprises large M.sub.23C.sub.6-type carbides in combination with M.sub.7C.sub.3-type carbides. A method for production of the iron-based powder, a method for producing a pressed and sintered component having high wear resistance, and a component having high wear resistance are provided.

  • Superfinishing large planetary gear systems

    Disclosed herein is a new improved large planetary gear system used on the input stage of wind turbine power generators. This improved planetary gear system reduces or eliminates lubricant debris traditionally generated from the gear teeth, thereby eliminating an initiating source for bearing failure. To achieve these results, some and preferably all of the gear teeth within the planetary gear system are superfinished using chemically accelerated vibratory finishing to a surface roughness of approximately 0.25 micron or less. Several objects and advantages of the invention are to provide a gearbox with reduced metal debris, improved bearing life, reduced wear, reduced vibro-frictional noise, improved contact fatigue, improved fretting resistance, improved lubrication, to simplify the run-in process, and to enhance the durability and efficiency of the gearbox.

  • Lubricating structure for static hydraulic continuously variable transmission

    A lubricating structure for a static hydraulic continuously variable transmission includes a central oil path axially formed at a center of a shaft of the transmission. A circumferential oil path is arranged at an inner circumferential part of a retainer between the retainer and an outer circumferential part of the transmission shaft. A diametrical oil path is in communication with the circumferential oil path and the central oil path of the shaft of said transmission. The diametrical oil path is provided with an orifice. A lubricant oil ejection hole is arranged at the retainer to eject lubricant oil from the circumferential oil path.

  • Reduced Friction Vitrectomy Probe

    A vitrectomy probe includes a housing, a fluidic motor disposed within the housing, a needle extending from the housing, and a cutter assembly. The cutter assembly includes an inner cutting member disposed within and axially moveable relative to the needle, a drive shaft disposed within the housing and axially moveable relative to the housing, and a coupler disposed within the housing coupling the drive shaft and the inner cutting member. The motor is associated with the drive shaft in a manner that drives the cutter assembly in an oscillating manner. The probe also includes two or fewer seals within the housing in contact with the cutter assembly for sealing against fluid leakage.

  • METHOD OF AN APPARATUS FOR FRICTION STIR SPOT WELDING WITH ADAPTED NUMBER OF SHOULDERS WITH RESPECT TO THICKNESSES OF PLATES TO BE SPOT WELDED

    A method and an apparatus for friction stir spot welding together at least two metal sheets is described. A tool comprising a stepwise decreasing diameter towards the welding end is used. Each stepwise decrease in diameter defines a shoulder. The first shoulder is situated at a distance (x) from the welding end which is larger than zero and smaller than the minimum thickness (Wmin) of one of the metal sheets, and wherein a higher number of shoulders than the number of metal sheets to be joined, are situated within a distance (L) from the welding end that is smaller than the maximum thickness (Wmax) of a metal sheet times the number of metal sheets to be joined minus one.

    A clutch including a first member having a first friction surface, wherein the first friction surface has an inner diameter and an outer diameter, a second member having a second friction surface, wherein at least one of the first or second members is moveable axially for engaging the first friction surface with the second friction surface for closing the clutch, wherein the first member is thinner in a first area approximately radially aligned with the first inner diameter, the first outer diameter, or both, than in a second area radially aligned with a portion of the first friction surface generally located radially between the first inner diameter and the first outer diameter.

  • Friction Set Screw For Use With Spinal Implant Systems

    A set screw for use in association with spinal implant assemblies. The set screw includes a threaded base portion extending along a longitudinal axis and formed of a first material, and a friction member extending from a distal end of the threaded base portion and formed of a second material different from the first material. In one embodiment, the spinal implant assembly includes a connector member having a passage and an opening in communication with the passage, and an elongate support member positioned within the passage of the connector member. The set screw is threadedly engaged to the connector member and at least partially positioned within the opening, with a distal end portion of the friction member extending into the passage and compressed against an outer surface of the elongate support member to inhibit movement of the elongate support member within the passage.

    System for scheduling plurality of selected maintenance tasks, having storage media and a processor. The storage media store data indicative of a plurality of maintenance points, task templates, and maintenance task definitions associated between maintenance points and task templates. At least one maintenance point(s) has a plurality of maintenance point parameters associated with task template(s) having a plurality of task parameters. Upon accessing at least one maintenance task definition, the maintenance task definition is dynamically generated from the plurality of maintenance point parameters of maintenance point(s) and from task parameters of task template(s). The processor selectively applies queries to stored data to generate assignments including selected maintenance tasks. The queries have a plurality of filter criteria and logical relationships defined between the filter criteria to selectively include maintenance task definitions matching queries and exclude definitions not matching queries.

  • SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR REGULATING FLUID FLOW FOR INTERNAL COOLING AND LUBRICATION OF ELECTRIC MACHINES

    Systems and methods are provided for cooling and lubrication of high power density electric machines with an enhanced fluid injection system. Multiple fluid flow passages are within the electric machine, which include a bearing fluid flow pathway and a rotor fluid flow pathway. The bearing fluid flow pathway comprises a passage which directs fluid to contact a bearing for lubrication and cooling. The rotor fluid flow pathway comprises a passage which directs fluid along the rotatable shaft toward the rotor and stator for cooling. A fluid flow passage may lead to a junction, and may split between the bearing fluid flow pathway and the rotor fluid flow pathway. Additionally, a fluid flow metering device at the junction between the bearing fluid flow pathway and the rotor fluid flow pathway, may determine the relative amount of fluid that flows to the bearing and that flows toward the rotor and stator.

  • LUBRICATION STATION

    A lubrication station for lubricating a bearing with a lubricant. The lubrication station has a pump for pumping the lubricant, a receptacle for receiving the lubricant as a lubricant stock for the pump, a receiving device for receiving the pump and the receptacle in a transportable and operable state, and a mechanical interface for lifting or lowering and/or carrying the lubrication station. The lubrication station is a mobile standing device.

  • SYSTEM FOR AUTOMATIC LUBRICATION

    A system for automatically delivering lubricant to at least one bearing (16) has a lubricant pump (1) feeding lubricant under pressure through a supply line (3) to an injector (4). The injector, driven by the lubricant, sends a measured amount of lubricant down feed line (14) to bearing (16). A pressurising valve (15) maintains injection pressure in the feed line (14) enabling any failure of supply to be detected as a pressure drop at pressure switch (2). Preferred features include the incorporation of a second pressurising valve (12) at the injector end of the feed line (14), a blocked-line vent valve (13) to enable detection of a blocked or crushed feed line, and check valves (10) and (11). The injector (4) is preferably configured to produce a higher pressure at the outlet than the inlet, and various versions of this intensifying injector are described and claimed.

  • LUBRICATING OIL WITH IMPROVED WEAR PROPERTIES

    Provided is a lubricating oil composition for internal combustion engines comprising at least one hydrocarbon base stock which is determined to exhibit a 40.degree. C. PVC/100.degree. C. PVC ratio approaching one or greater, and one or more lubricating additives. Also provided is a method for preparing such a composition, which includes determining the 40.degree. C. PVC/100.degree. C. PVC ratio of a hydrocarbon base stock oil, and selecting a hydrocarbon base stock oil which exhibits a 40.degree. C. PVC/100.degree. C. PVC ratio approaching one. One or more lubricating additives is then added to the selected base stock oil.

  • METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR DETECTING WEAR IN IMAGING DEVICES

    Methods and system for detecting wear in imaging devices. The system includes an outer wearable layer. An inner layer fused to the outer layer. The inner layer is made of multiple microcapsules including odiferous oils. Wearing off of the outer layer, over time, exposes the inner layer. Subsequently, with added pressure on the inner layer, the microcapsules crack, giving off a particular scent. By detecting the smell, customers can identify worn components of the imaging devices.

  • Flow machine for a fluid having a radial sealing gap and a stationary wear ring

    A flow machine 10 for a fluid shown contains a radial sealing gap (9) which is formed between stator parts (4, 4a, 4b) and a closed impeller (3) of the flow machine, with at least one wear ring (5) arranged in a stationary manner being provided at the sealing gap and having an inner side facing the impeller, an outer side and two axially spaced apart side surfaces. A concentrically extending recess (6) in the form of a radial gap or of a radial incision is formed in the wear ring (5), with the recess 6, starting from one of the side surfaces, extending in the axial direction over more than a fifth of the axial length of the wear ring and with the wear ring (5) being produced from metal, hard metal or a ceramic material.

  • METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR DETECTION OF DRILL BIT WEAR

    A method for determining wear of a drill bit is disclosed. The method includes drilling a first hole in a worksite based on a hole pattern having a plurality of planned holes and determining an energy required to drill the first hole. The method also includes drilling a second hole in the worksite and determining an energy required to drill the second hole. The method further includes determining a wear of the drill bit using the determined energy required to drill the first hole and the determined energy required to drill the second hole.

  • TRIBOLOGY COMBINED WITH CORROSION RESISTANCE: A NEW FAMILY OF PVD- AND PACVD COATINGS

    The present invention relates to a coating system on a substrate with improved protection against wear as well as corrosion. According to the invention the substrate is coated with a diamond like carbon (DLC) layer. This DLC layer is coated with an additional layer with material different from the DLC coating material, thereby closing the pin holes of the DLC layer.

  • FRICTION-JOINING STEEL PLATE AND FRICTION-JOINING STRUCTURE

    The invention provides a friction joining structure comprising steel products, a friction joining steel plate inserted there between, and a fastening device, which are mutually friction joined by a compressive force derived from the fastening device. A portion of projected streaks on the friction joining steel plate is designed to have a Vickers hardness at least 3 times greater than the surface of the steel products, which allows the projected streaks to more easily enter the steel products thereby increasing the friction coefficient between the steel products. The friction joining structure is constituted by a slip resistance mechanism which can be easily validated from a theoretical or an experimental point of view and is also small in variance of the friction coefficient. Therefore, a friction coefficient used in design can be set at a high value with high accuracy to realize a rational design.

  • PROCESSES FOR PRODUCING PRECURSOR FOR FUNCTIONALLY GRADIENT MATERIAL AND PRODUCING FUNCTIONALLY GRADIENT MATERIAL, PRECURSOR FOR FUNCTIONALLY GRADIENT MATERIAL, AND FUNCTIONALLY GRADIENT MATERIAL

    The present invention provides a qualitatively-stable functionally gradient material precursor having gradient material composition, as well as a production method of the functionally gradient material precursor, at low cost. Further, the present invention provides a functionally gradient material having gradient material composition, or having both gradient material composition and gradient porosity, so as to achieve high-functionality; as well as a production method of the functionally gradient material. A functionally gradient material precursor is formed by the steps of: forming plural kinds of metal foam precursors, each obtained by performing heat treatment on a metal member so that a plurality of pores are generated within the metal member, by making the material composition of the metal member different; and friction stir welding the plural kinds of metal foam precursors. Further, a functionally gradient material is formed by performing heat treatment on the functionally gradient material.

  • APPARATUS AND METHODS FOR DELIVERY OF A FUNCTIONAL MATERIAL TO AN IMAGE FORMING MEMBER

    The presently disclosed embodiments relate generally to an image forming apparatus comprising: a) an imaging member, and b) a delivery member in contact with the surface of the imaging member, wherein the delivery member has a surface layer comprised of an elastic material impregnated with a functional healing material, and the functional healing material is transferred onto the imaging member by diffusion through the elastic material to the surface of the imaging member. Embodiments also pertain to an improved electrophotographic imaging member comprising a very thin outer layer on the imaging member surface, where the outer layer comprises functional healing materials that act as a lubricant and or a barrier against moisture and/or surface contaminants. The improved imaging member exhibits improved xerographic performance, such as reduced friction and deletions in high humidity conditions.

  • UNIVERSAL RAIL MOUNTING SYSTEM

    A universal mounting system includes a mounting rail and plurality of heavy mounting blocks and clip-on mounting blocks to receive utility adaptors. The mounting rail comprises a flange and a bearing rail, an open centerline channel extending the length of the mounting rail, the bearing rail having a first bearing surface distal from the flange and opposed second and third bearing surfaces disposed laterally along the length of the bearing rail, wherein the base width is less than the exterior bearing surface width. The heavy mounting blocks are slidingly couplable over the bearing rail, including a mounting surface to mate to the utility adaptor and a receiving channel having cross section conforming to the bearing rail cross section; a clamping member with a friction clamping member to go against the threaded rod distal end and bearing rail. The system includes a centerline channel depth not greater than the flange depth.

  • Vertically Stacking Litter Bags

    Bags for granular material with a closure on top of the bag and a vertical handle on the lower end of the bag and having suitable dimensions, static coefficient of friction, creep resistance and containing granular materials of limited flow properties can be vertically stacked without support, for example on a pallet. One such suitable granular material is cat litter.

A portion of projected streaks on the friction joining steel plate is designed to have a Vickers hardness at least 3 times greater than the surface of the steel products, which allows the projected streaks to more easily enter the steel products thereby increasing the friction coefficient between the steel products. The friction joining structure is constituted by a slip resistance mechanism which can be easily validated from a theoretical or an experimental point of view and is also small in variance of the friction coefficient. Therefore, a friction coefficient used in design can be set at a high value with high accuracy to realize a rational design.
