  • GESTURE BASED AUTHENTICATION FOR WIRELESS PAYMENT BY A MOBILE ELECTRONIC DEVICE

    A method of gesture based authentication for wireless payment by a mobile electronic device is disclosed. In one aspect, the method includes determining that an applied gesture above a touch receptive area of a target device is associated with a user-defined payment gesture stored locally within the mobile electronic device. The method may include comparing the applied gesture above the touch receptive input area of a mobile electronic device with a user-defined payment gesture stored locally within the mobile electronic device. If the applied gesture above the touch receptive input area of a mobile electronic device matches the user-defined payment gesture stored locally within the mobile electronic device, the method includes permitting the wireless transfer of protected payment data resident on the mobile electronic device to an external reader using near-field communication technology.

  • IDENTIFICATION AND END-USE DIFFERENTIATION IN DIGITAL MEDIA

    A method for operating a media player includes extracting a set of identifiers from a digital medium holding an encoded video content, using a media player. The method further includes transmitting the set of identifiers to an identification service to obtain status information indicating a title for the video content, an authorization status of the digital medium, and an end-use designation for the digital medium selected from rental or sell-through. The method further includes controlling at least one function of the media player used to provide video output from the media player, in response to the status information. Extracting the set of identifiers may include extracting five identifiers comprising a volume name, a book type, and a time stamp for the digital medium, a file directory hash, and a watermark description. The method may be embodied in a media player or encoded instructions for a media player.

  • SECURING A COMMUNICATION PROTOCOL AGAINST ATTACKS

    A method, system, and computer usable program product for securing a data communication against attacks are provided in the illustrative embodiments. A segment in the data communication is received at a first application executing in a first data processing system. The segment is formed according to a data communication protocol and includes an option. The option includes a current clue and a next clue. The current clue is compared with a saved next clue, the saved next clue being a next clue in a previous segment. The segment is accepted as being a valid segment in the data communication if the current clue matches the saved next clue. A part of the segment is sent to a consumer application.

    An entertainment device, comprises a communication arrangement operable to receive audio segment data from an audio segment data source and to receive audio segment selection data from an audio segment selection data source in connection with an interactive audio segment data selection session as between the entertainment device and the audio segment selection data source; an audio segment selector operable to generate audio segment selection data in response to selections made by a user interacting with a user interface of the entertainment device; and a storage arrangement operable to store the received audio segment data; in which: the storage arrangement is operable to limit the duration of storage of audio segment data which was received from the audio segment data source and which was selected according to either the received audio segment selection data or the generated audio segment selection data.

  • Security Monitoring

    Disclosed are systems, apparatus, methods, and computer readable media for determining a combined trust level for a website. In one embodiment, a user account associated with the creation or maintenance of the website may be analyzed. The analysis of the user account may be capable of identifying the presence or absence of a first risk factor affecting a likelihood that the user account is engaged in a malicious activity. A source code file capable of being used to create a message for sending to a remote computing device may be analyzed. The analysis of the source code file may be capable of identifying the presence or absence of a second risk factor affecting a likelihood that the source code file is facilitating a malicious activity. Based on the analysis, a combined trust level for the website may be determined.

  • Firewall Method and Apparatus for Industrial Systems

    Method and apparatus for use with systems including networked resources where communication between resources is via dual packet protocols wherein a first protocol includes a frame that specifies a destination device/resource and a data field and the second protocol specifies a final destination device/resource and includes a data field, where the second packets are encapsulated in the first protocol packet frames, the method including specifying access control information for resources, for each first protocol packet transmitted on the network, intercepting the first protocol packet prior to the first protocol destination resource, examining a subset of the additional embedded packet information to identify one of the intermediate path resources and the final destination resource, identifying the access control information associated with the identified at least one of the intermediate path resources and the final destination resource and restricting transmission of the first protocol packet as a function of the identified access control information.

  • USING A TRUSTED TOKEN AND PUSH FOR VALIDATING THE REQUEST FOR SINGLE SIGN ON

    Providing access to an enterprise application from a telecommunications device via a client, through a device server, and an intermediate application gateway (IAG), is disclosed. The server is communication with the client and the IAG. The IAG and client are in indirect communication via the server. The client is operative to request an enterprise application token from the IAG using a dataset comprising a device identifier and a user identifier, without concurrently prompting a user for the dataset. The IAG is operative to prepare a token in response to the request, and push the token to an e-mail address associated with the telecommunications device via the server's push proxy gateway. The client is operative to employ the token in communications addressed to an enterprise application via the server and the IAG. The IAG is operative to replace the token in each communication with identification information called for by the enterprise application.

  • SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR HOST AUTHENTICATION

    Systems and methods provide for authenticating a device. A method for authenticating a device can include receiving, at communications node, a first message, wherein the first message includes a first Extensible Authentication Protocol (EAP) packet which includes an EAP (Identify) ID response and a first destination address; generating, by the communications node, a second message, wherein the second message includes the first EAP ID response and a second destination address which is different from the first destination address; and transmitting, by the communications node, the second message toward the second destination address.

    Provided are a thin client-server system, a thin client terminal, a data management method, and a computer readable recording medium capable of preventing data leakage when the thin client terminal is lost. A thin client-server system comprising a server provided with a database storing user data, and a thin client terminal acquiring the user data from the server, connected through a network, wherein the thin client terminal is provided with communication processing means to transmit and receive data; storage means to execute a user data acquisition request to the server through the communication processing means, and store the user data acquired from the server in a volatile memory; and control means to judge whether or not a predetermined time has passed after the reference to the user data stored in the volatile memory has been completed, and delete the data stored in the volatile memory when the time has passed.

    An electronic device includes a wireless communication unit wirelessly communicating with any of a plurality of external devices which each comprise a display, a display displaying content including specific content, an input unit receiving an input for selecting the specific content, and a controller. The controller searches for an external device that is available for communication with the electronic device, establishes communication via the wireless communication unit with a selected first external device, which is one of the plurality of external devices identified as a result of the search for an external device, receives content specification information from the first external device to determine the first external device's capability to display the specific content, and causes displaying of the specific content on the display of the first external device upon determining that the first external device is capable of displaying the specific content based on the content specification information.

  • SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR SENDING MEDIA CONTENT TO A USER DEVICE FROM A NETWORK OF SET-TOP CELLS

    Systems and methods for streaming media content on a user device from a wireless network of set-top cells. Set-top cells with overlapping wireless transmission ranges create a network within which a user may roam and receive continuous streaming media content. Each user device and set-top cell in the network is associated with a media account for a user. A user device may be associated with a media account for a user and may be authorized to access media content from the network of set-top cells. The user may use the user device to access media content from a set-top cell in the network associated with a media account for a different user.

  • APPARATUS AND METHOD FOR EFFECTIVELY IMPLEMENTING A WIRELESS TELEVISION SYSTEM

    An apparatus and method for effectively implementing a wireless television system may include a communications processor and a transmitter device that combine at least one of a local-area network interface, a wide-area network interface, and one or more television data interfaces for effectively performing a wireless network transmission process. A transmitted stream from the wireless television system may be received via wireless network processing for viewing local-area network data, wide-area network data (such as Internet data), or television data by flexibly utilizing various electronic devices such as a notepad personal computer, a personal digital assistant (PDA), or a handheld TV remote control device.

  • Media Processing Methods and Arrangements

    The present technology concerns cell phones and other portable devices, and more particularly concerns use of such devices in connection with media content (electronic and physical) and with other systems (e.g., televisions, digital video recorders, and electronic program directories). Some aspects of the technology allow users to easily transfer displayed content from cell phone screens onto a television screens for easier viewing, or vice versa for content portability. Others enable users to participate interactively in entertainment content, such as by submitting plot directions, audio input, character names, etc., yielding more engaging, immersive, user experiences. Still other aspects of the technology involve a program directory database, compiled automatically from information reported by network nodes that watch and identify content traffic passing into (and/or out of) networked computers. By identifying content resident at a number of different repositories (e.g., web sites, TV networks, P2P systems, etc.), such a directory allows cell phone users to identify the diversity of sources from which desired content can be obtained--some available on a scheduled basis, others available on demand. Depending on the application, the directory information may be transparent to the user--serving to identify sources for desired content, from which application software can pick for content downloading, based, e.g., on context and stored profile data. A great number of other features and arrangements are also detailed.

  • METHOD AND APPARATUS OF HANDOVER BETWEEN MOBILE TV NETWORKS

    A method and apparatus of switching among mobile television networks are provided in the present invention. By playing a service with the same content synchronously over a number of different networks, if a mobile television terminal moves from a network coverage domain to another network coverage domain during the receiving and playing of the service by the mobile television terminal, the method and apparatus can trigger the mobile television terminal to send a switch request and switch to the current network to continue the receiving and playing of the service, so that the user can get the experience of an almost seamless switching.

  • METHODS AND SYSTEMS FOR PROVIDING MEDIA CONTENT LISTINGS BY CONTENT PROVIDER

    An interactive television program guide method and system is provided in which a viewer may direct a media guidance application to display program listings independent of scheduled broadcast time. Selectable options are presented to viewer on the screen, allowing the user to select a subset of content providers and view associated listings. The media guidance application removes duplicate listings from the listings display, in accordance with the viewer's preference. Listings may be displayed in a variety of arrangements, including alphabetical order by title, by genre, or by day scheduled for broadcast. Listings can also be sorted according to several criteria and displayed for further convenience to the viewer. The viewer may specify a broadcast time interval to further narrow the subset of listings that are displayed. Additional options displayed on the screen allow the viewer to re-sort listings on the display screen.

  • SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR PROVIDING MEDIA CONTENT LISTINGS ACCORDING TO A DESTINATION LOCATION

    Systems and methods are provided for allowing a user to obtain media content listings associated with a particular geographical location. The media content listings may be selected automatically according to, for example, media consumption data that tracks media content accessed by other users. The media content listings may be those that are associated with the most popular media content accessed in the geographic location by users who are not from that geographic location (e.g., they may be visiting from the same geographic location in which the current user is currently located or resides).

  • Video processing system providing interactivity independent of service provider equipment and video output device

    Described herein is a video display arrangement in which a video signal from a video source is intercepted and, in response to a command from a user, a desired video signal is obtained by at least one of substituting a different video signal for the video signal from the video source and augmenting the video signal from the video source to add interactivity information for display to the user. The desired video signal is applied to a display device and displayed to the user. The arrangement may use a smart cable or a small accessory.

  • CONFIGURABLE COMPUTER SYSTEM

    According to one aspect, embodiments of the invention provide a computer system comprising a base station having a communication interface adapted to communicate with an external network, an external display device configured to receive output display signals from the base station, a user interface displayed on the external display device and generated in response to the output display signals, wherein the user interface is selectively configurable in one of a plurality of modes of content, and a remote control configured to interact with the user interface displayed by the external display device, wherein the remote control is selectively operable in at least two configurations and wherein the selectively operable remote is configured to permit a user to select for display on the external display device one of the plurality of modes of content of the user interface based on the selected configuration of the remote control.

  • Point to multi-point wireless video delivery

    Point to multi-point wireless video delivery. Among a group of receiver wireless communication devices (RXs), one is designated (e.g., as acknowledgment (ACK) leader). Media delivery operational parameters are selected based on the designated RX or based on all or a subset of the RXs. For simultaneous media delivery to multiple RXs, characteristics associated with the designated RX [or all, or a subset or RXs] govern the manner by which communications are made. Different respective RXs may be designated to serve in this role at different times. Wireless delivery of media (e.g., video signaling, audio signaling, etc.) to a group of RXs is effectuated in accordance with modified multicast signaling with a designated leader (e.g., ACK leader). Among a group of devices, a least successful receiving device that still receives media at an acceptable level may be chosen as the designated leader (e.g., ACK leader).

  • Wireless Peripheral Chips, Host Devices and Multi-Interface Communication Apparatuses

    A wireless peripheral chip operable to connect to a host device is provided. The wireless peripheral chip includes a first wireless communication module providing a first wireless communication service for the host device and a second wireless communication module providing a second wireless communication service for the host device. The first wireless communication module and the second wireless communication module share at least one interrupt signal for communicating with the host device.

    A method of performing a swap operation. Communication is established between a first UE and a server. Communication is established between the first UE and a second UE. Permission is received at the first UE from the server to perform the swap operation. A swap application is executed to facilitate transfer of an archive file from the first UE to the second UE.

  • WIRELESS COMMUNICATION NETWORK FOR SMART APPLIANCES

    A communications module, and a consumer device comprising the communications model, is provided for use in a communication network with one or more consumer devices or "smart" appliances. The communications module includes a wireless transceiver for communication with the network, for example in accordance with the ZigBee protocol, and an interface for communicating with a host processor of the consumer device. The module receives scheduled event data over a wireless link on behalf of the host processor, and schedules events for execution by the host processor upon receipt of commands transmitted by the module. The communications module may include a virtual host module, which translates commands between a protocol used by the host processor and a protocol used by the communications module. The communications module is also configured to automatically seek and join a network, and to discover and bind to services provided over the network.

  • MANAGING A CLIENT APPLICATION SESSION BASED ON A STATUS OF A LOCAL WIRELESS CONNECTION BETWEEN PRIMARY AND SECONDARY COMMUNICATION TERMINALS

    In an embodiment, a secondary communication terminal (CT) executes a client application to engage in a client application session (CAS), the secondary CT configured to connect to a primary CT over a local wireless connection (LWC), the primary CT having a higher-quality user interface environment as compared to the secondary CT. The secondary CT establishes the LWC with the primary CT during the CAS and, responsive to the establishment, negotiates with the primary CT to selectively transition the CAS to the primary CT. Alternatively, the primary CT executes the client application before the establishment and negotiates with the secondary CT to selectively transition the CAS to the secondary CT. In another embodiment, the primary CT hosts the CAS while the LWC is established with the secondary CT. Then, upon disconnection of the LWC, the secondary AT selectively transitions the CAS to the secondary CT.

  • Resource Allocation Framework for Wireless/Wired Networks

    A resource allocation framework for wireless/wired networks is described. In an embodiment, methods of end host based traffic management are described which operate separately from the underlying access control protocol within the network (e.g. wireless MAC protocol or TCP). The rate limits for each flow are set based on per-flow weights, which may be user specified, and based on an estimate of the utilization of the shared resource and the rate limits are adjusted periodically so that the resource is not underutilized or saturated. Some embodiments compute a virtual capacity of the resource which is adjusted to optimize the value of the utilization and then the virtual capacity is shared between flows according to the per-flow weights. Methods for estimating the utilization of a wireless network and the capacity of a broadband access link are also described.

  • SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR DETERMINING LOCATION FROM WIRELESS SIGNALS

    A computer, media player, remote control or other device is configured to determine its relative location within a home, office or other given environment based upon the reception and/or sensing of wireless network signals and/or other electromagnetic signals emitted by other devices present at any time in the environment. The device receives wireless signals from one or more wireless signal sources, and determines a parameter (e.g., signal strength) for the signals received from each source. The location of the portable device within the environment is determined based on the determined parameters. The location may be used for any purpose, such as adjusting a setting on the portable device, identifying another device to be controlled by a portable remote control, or the like.

  • Radio Channel Metrics for Secure Wireless Network Pairing

    Technologies are generally described for using metrics of radio path characteristics within a wireless network to establish signal signature vectors. These signal signature vectors may be used as a shared secret between network nodes to establish affirmative identification. For example, a signal signature vector may be established when a new node sends a fixed number of packets to the existing nodes and the existing nodes send a fixed number of other packets back to the new node. The number of properly received packets can be counted to establish a success probability between the new node and each existing node. These probabilities can be normalized and quantized to generate signal signature vectors at each node. Without every transmitting any of the vectors, the vector at the new node should be highly correlated to the vectors at existing nodes since the pair-wise channels between each of the nodes should be reasonably symmetrical.

  • TRANSMITTING DATA IN A WIRELESS WHITE SPACE NETWORK

    There is provided a computer-implemented method for transmitting data over a wireless network using white spaces. A first white space transmission channel is determined for communicating with mobile client devices. Wireless communication takes place with the mobile client devices over the first white space transmission channel. If the first white space transmission channel becomes unavailable to one of the mobile client devices because of the presence of a primary user on the first white space transmission channel, a different white space transmission channel is determined for communicating with the mobile client device that is affected. The first white space transmission channel may become unavailable to the affected mobile client device, for example, because a primary user begins using the first white space transmission channel in proximity to the affected device. The primary user may be a wireless microphone. Thereafter, communication with the affected wireless device takes place on the different white space transmission channel, while unaffected devices continue to communicate on the first white space transmission channel. Also provided are an exemplary wireless base station and an exemplary mobile client device.

  • METHOD OF USING VEHICLE LOCATION INFORMATION WITH A WIRELESS MOBILE DEVICE

    A system and method for monitoring vehicle position includes receiving vehicle location information at a mobile wireless device via short-range communication from the vehicle, storing the received vehicle location information at the wireless mobile device, receiving a request from a user of the wireless mobile device for a navigational route to the vehicle, determining the location of the wireless mobile device, and providing at the wireless mobile device the navigational route between the wireless mobile device and the vehicle based on the wireless mobile device location and vehicle location. This can be helpful where a user has parked his or her car and thereafter needs assistance locating where it is parked.

  • Systems, methods, and apparatuses for erasing memory on wireless devices

    A wireless device having a memory is provided. The memory or a protected portion of the memory is subject to a hard erasure of the memory vs. a soft erasure of the memory if a plurality of sensors indicate a threat to the device exists. The threat may be detected by a plurality of sensors, such as, a timer, a connectivity sensor, a location sensor or geo-fence, a breech sensor, an authentication procedure or the like.

  • Systems and methods of controlling network access

    A new approach to network security includes manipulating an access point such that an initial communication from an external device is passed to a restricted subset of a computing network including a gatekeeper. The gatekeeper is configured to enforce a security policy against the external device before granting access to a less-restricted subset of the computing network. If requirements of the security policy are satisfied, then the gatekeeper reconfigures the access point such that further communication from the external device may be received by elements of the less-restricted subset. Enforcement of the security policy optionally includes performing a security audit of the external device.

    An integrated circuit (122) includes an on-chip boot ROM (132) holding boot code, a non-volatile security identification element (140) having non-volatile information determining a less secure type or more secure type, and a processor (130). The processor (130) is coupled to the on-chip boot ROM (132) and to the non-volatile security identification element (140) to selectively execute boot code depending on the non-volatile information of the non-volatile security identification element(140). Other technology such as processors, methods of operation, processes of manufacture, wireless communications apparatus, and wireless handsets are also disclosed.

  • System and method for providing customizable options on a wireless device

    A system and method for enabling users to send and receive messages and other information from mobile devices and enabling users to access server-based information using mobile devices over wireless data networks are disclosed. The present invention enables users to customize information that is received and sent from mobile devices. For example, the user may select to receive emails (or other correspondences) from a particular individual or group of individuals. The user may also select to receive a particular type of types of emails (or other correspondences), such as the ones marked as high priority or otherwise designated as being important. Other variations may also be implemented. In addition, the user may customize responses, replies and other outgoing information from the user's mobile device. Mobile device users may also customize various aspects of views and applications. Examples of customizable options may include home page (e.g., personal, any URL), time zone, date format, font format, language and other options.

  • Wireless communication system, wireless communication apparatus, wireless communication method and computer program

    The present invention eliminates a transmission-waiting operation which is unnecessary while accommodating a prioritized traffic. Although a communication station enters a transmission-disallowed state in response to detection of a signal addressed to another station in accordance with medium access control based on CSMA, if the communication station receives a frame transmitted with priority to a local station during the transmission waiting, it cancels the transmission-disallowed state, sends back a frame responding the frame transmitted with priority and effectively operates a transmission prioritized period. The communication station starts a search procedure to perform a processing of evading duplication of the transmission prioritized periods if it judges a possibility of a problem occurring in a time zone in which reception with priority is possible.

  • CLAIMING SYSTEM AND METHOD

    A claims and repair process including collecting accident information at birth of an accident, electronic communication to a remote site, and posting information for selecting repair and supplier parties, such as by a bid process. Any of a PDA, a mapping system, or a data collection system installed on the vehicle collects accident information at the accident site, on a tow truck, or at a facility. A PDA with a digital camera may be provided for collecting digital images. Wireless communications may be used to transfer accident information for expedited processing. A claims estimate may be made by a claims adjuster or claims wizard. An aggregate database may be employed by the claims wizard to facilitate damage assessment. The claims wizard may work interactively with a PDA device for improved data collection. Tow trucks may be dispatched to transport rental, damaged and repaired vehicles to reduce insured's involvement.

  • SYSTEM AND METHODS FOR PROVIDING GAMING ACTIVITIES

    A system and method for determining the location of a location tracking device, employs a satellite based location determining infrastructure and a wireless data communications network. A location tracking device which cannot easily obtain valid ephemeris data from the satellite based location, determining infrastructure, requests the necessary data from a data set stored at a tracking device hub via the wireless communications network. The tracking device hub determines and transmits an estimated position of the location tracking device to the location tracking device, along with the appropriate required valid ephemeris data, to allow the location tracking device to determine its location. If the location tracking device is still unable to make a location determination from the satellite based location determining infrastructure, then the estimated location can be provided. The base station topography is self-determined by a process executing in the system and can include base stations from different networks.

  • A METHOD OF OPERATING WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK AND BASE STATION FOR USE IN WIRELESS COMMUNICATION NETWORK

    A method of operating a wireless communications network comprising a first plurality of base stations serving a second plurality of subscriber stations and at least one Radio Network Controller. The method comprises detecting (102) a malfunction affecting provision of services by a base station, determining (104) cell affected by said malfunction. If said base station continues (106) to transmit signal in said affected cell then power of signal transmitted by said base station in the affected cell is reduced (108) and adjusting (110) power of signal transmitted by base stations in cells adjacent to said affected cell to provide network coverage for the affected area.

  • METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR USING MOBILE DEVICES AS LOCATION ANCHOR POINTS

    Mobile devices are used as temporary location anchor points, e.g., to supplement fixed location permanent location anchor points, in a wireless communications system in which mobile device locations are determined. A mobile device receives a command or request to operate as a location anchor point. In some embodiments, the command includes time information indicating the amount of time the mobile device is to operate as a location anchor point. In some embodiments, a mobile device operating as a location anchor point reports a received signal strength measurement along with information identifying the device from which the signal was received to a network element, e.g., a location server node. In some embodiments, a mobile device operating as a location anchor point broadcasts a signal providing location information. The mobile device receives compensation for operating as a location anchor point. Compensation may be monetary, services, or benefits provided by the network.

  • System and Method for Providing Security in a Wireless Communications System

    A system and method for providing security in a wireless communications system are provided. A method for device operations includes generating a security key from an initial key, producing secured information by applying the security key to radio resource allocation information, and transmitting the secured information to the communications device. The radio resource allocation information comprises a location of radio resource allocated to a communications device.

  • METHODS AND APPARATUS FOR ENCODING AND TRANSMITTING MOBILE DEVICE LOCATION INFORMATION

    Methods and apparatus for communicating the location of a mobile wireless communications device are described. Codewords, e.g., values or sets of bits, are selected from a codebook mapping different codewords to corresponding pieces of location information. In a first approach location information is communicated by using codewords from different codebooks with the product, e.g., intersection of location information provided by the codewords, providing relatively detailed location information using relatively few bits. In a second approach user specific codebooks are defined for individual users. The codewords in the codebook corresponding to a particular user map to locations the individual specific user is likely to frequent. In another approach codewords are transmitted at different power levels and/or using different coding rates. Received codewords corresponding to a device may be used in combination to determine the location or refine the understanding of the device location.

  • Communication Apparatuses and Wireless Communications Modules

    A communication apparatus having a first and second wireless communications modules is provided. The first wireless communications module includes a receiving unit receiving RF signals from an air interface, a signal processing module performing frequency down conversion on the RF signals to generate baseband signals according to a clock signal, and a processor processing the baseband signals. The processor further detects an ON/OFF status of the second wireless communications module to obtain a detection result and compensates for frequency drift of the clock signal according to the detection result.

  • SLEEP MODE SELECTION EMPLOYING A SEMI-MARKOV DECISION PROCESS

Information may be obtained from peer discovery signals and used to determine if a constraint is satisfied.

    A system and method for allowing mobile devices to simultaneously access a Subscriber Identity Module (SIM) are disclosed. The SIM contains a wireless transceiver, and the SIM may be located within a mobile phone, or it may be a stand-alone device. The mobile devices use a wireless protocol, such as Bluetooth, to retrieve identification information from the SIM. The devices then use this identification information to connect to awireless communications network, such as a wireless local area network. Through this network the devices will be able to access the Internet. The SIM will never need to be removed and inserted from one device to another, and multiple devices can use the SIM simultaneously. Thus, the mobile phone will work regardless of whether other devices are also using the SIM.

A Stimulating Apparatus (SA) monitors control messages that the BTSs in the area of the SA broadcast to MSs. The SA then broadcasts the modified messages on behalf of the selected BTS by using its frequency channel.     A method for multiple preparation of target cells in a wireless communication network, for handover of a mobile terminal from a source cell to a target cell, includes providing a list of candidate target cells that meet given conditions (weak signal strength in uplink or downlink between mobile terminal and serving base station) and eventually statistics for their inclusion. At least some of the cells on the list are prepared for handover, while a cell included in the list that no longer meets the conditions is removed from it. Preparation of a cell for handover may be triggered when it is added to the list, or the signal strength between the source cell and the mobile terminal reduces below a threshold value, in uplink or in downlink. The handover preparation and the handover cancel procedures between eNodeBs as specified in LTE are used for this purpose.

    Methods and systems for power combining in a multi-port distributed antenna are disclosed and may include power combining signals from power amplifiers (PAs) on a chip. The PAs may be coupled to a single distributed antenna via antenna ports. A phase of each of the signals may be matched at the antenna ports via phase-matching circuitry. A characteristic impedance may be configured at the ports based on a location of the ports. The PAs may be impedance matched to the antenna ports via impedance matching elements. A power level of the power-combined signals may be monitored via a power detector coupled to the distributed antenna. The power detector may include an envelope detector, such as a diode. The antenna may be integrated on the chip or may be located external to the chip. The signals may include RF signals and the antenna may include a microstrip antenna.

    A method and system for estimating position of a moving RFID tag is provided. The method includes transmitting at least one interrogator signal; receiving, at an interrogator antenna, a reflected signal from the RFID tag; determining phase changes of the reflected signal with respect to the phase of the at least one interrogator signal; weighting the phase changes based on instant power corresponding to the phase changes; producing a phase trajectory for the reflected signal based on the weighted phase changes; and estimating position of the RFID tag relative to the interrogator antenna based on the peak of the phase trajectory for the reflected signal.

  • DETERMINING THE LAST LOCATION OF LOST AND STOLEN PORTABLE ELECTRONIC DEVICES WHEN WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS ACCESS TO THE LOST OR STOLEN DEVICES IS LOST OR INTERMITTENT

    The last known location of a lost or stolen device can be determined based on the device's last communication with a wireless data network. A portable device can be set up to communicate its location to a server after it obtains a wireless connection to a wireless data network and registers a most recent location with the server. A device can be set up to communicate its location based on at least one of communication with wireless data network hardware or portable device GPS location determined after the device obtains a wireless connection to a wireless data network. Location is stored until a subsequent location is registered in the server. The server can be programmed to send at least one of "lost" message, ringtone, lock code and wipe command to a lost or stolen portable device. The server can be programmed to provide map location information for the last known location of the lost portable device.

  • METHODS AND APPARATUSES FOR POSITIONING A NODE IN A WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS SYSTEM USING DIFFERENT RAN/RATS

    A method in a positioning node (100) for selecting a positioning method is provided. The positioning node is connected to a plurality of radio access networks of different access technologies and to a plurality of core networks. The positioning node receives (201) from a requesting node, a request for a positioning of a terminal. The request comprises at least one of a plurality of client types, and at least one of a plurality of quality of service parameters. The positioning node then selects (204) at least one positioning method of a plurality of positioning methods of the different plurality of radio access networks and or radio access technologies for positioning the terminal. The selection of the positioning method is based on the received at least one client type and at least one quality of service parameters of the request.

  • INTERFERER DETECTION AND INTERFERENCE REDUCTION FOR A WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS NETWORK

    An apparatus, system, method and program detect and reduce interference in cell sites of a wireless communications network. A cell site from the cell sites of the wireless communications network is selected and signal code power measurements from mobile devices in the cell site are received so that the sources of signals being transmitted to the mobile devices can be determined. Interfering sources are determined based on the signal code power measurements and the active set of sources for the mobile devices. The signal code power measurements are summed and ranked, and interfering transmitters associated with the ranked signal code power measurements for the interfering sources are determined. The same procedure is repeated for all cell sites of the wireless communications network, and the transmitter that is an interfering source for the highest number of cell sites is selected as a problem (interfering) transmitter. The parameters of the problem transmitter and the corresponding antenna are altered and performance of the wireless network in a critical zone around the problem transmitter and interference in the cell sites interfered by the problem transmitter are monitored. Altering of the parameters of the problem transmitter and the corresponding antenna is performed continuously until a desired interference reduction is achieved in the cell sites interfered by the problem transmitter.

    A method implemented in a user equipment used in a multi-user multiple input multiple output (MU-MIMO) wireless communications system is disclosed. The method includes receiving from a base station an indication of a first modulation type for the user equipment, receiving a first data signal for the user equipment, receiving a second data signal for a co-scheduled user equipment, where a second modulation type for the co-scheduled user equipment is unknown to the user equipment, and deciding the second modulation type.   • DUAL PACKET CONFIGURATION FOR WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONS

    A dual packet configuration for wireless communications including a first portion that is modulated according to a serial modulation and a second portion that is modulated according to a parallel modulation. The serial modulation may be DSSS whereas the parallel modulation may be OFDM. The first portion may include a header, which may further include an OFDM mode bit and a length field indicating the duration the second portion. The first portion may be in accordance with 802.11b to enable dual mode devices to coexist and communicate in the same area as standard 802.11b devices. The dual mode devices can communicate at different or higher data rates without interruption from the 802.11b devices. The packet configuration may include an OFDM signal symbol which further includes a data rate section and a data count section. In this manner, data rates the same as or similar to the 802.11a data rates may be specified between dual mode devices. The first and second portions may be based on the same or different clock fundamentals. For OFDM, the number of subcarriers, pilot tones and guard interval samples may be modified independently or in combination to achieve various embodiments. Also, data subcarriers may be discarded and replaced with pilot tones for transmission. The receiver regenerates the discarded data based on received data, such as using ECC techniques.

  • GROUP COMMUNICATION SESSIONS THAT ARE AT LEAST PARTIALLY SUPPORTED OVER PERSONAL AREA NETWORKS IN A WIRELESS COMMUNICATIONSSYSTEM

    In an embodiment, an application server receives a request to initiate a group communication session (GCS) over a Wireless Wide Area Network (WWAN) with a communication group. The application server obtains location information of a set of devices participating in the GCS and determines that the GCS can be supported between the set of devices via a Personal Area Network (PAN), after which the application server transitions support for the GCS from the WWAN to the PAN. In another embodiment, an originator begins a periodic broadcast of a local PAN signal announcing the GCS after failing to set-up the GCS via the WWAN. Target device(s) in the communication group receive the local PAN signal, determine not to transmit their own local PAN signal and then convey a session acceptance message to the originator. The GCS is then established between the target device(s) and the originator over the PAN.

  • System And Method For Providing Short Message Targeted Advertisements Over A Wireless Communications Network

    A method and system for providing targeted advertisement information to consumers over a wireless communications network. In one embodiment, local advertisers register to advertise on wireless communications devices that are in close proximity to the advertiser. As a consumer enters a cell site that is near the location of the advertiser, the wireless network delivers a message to the wireless device specified by the local advertiser. An acknowledgement signal is then received by the network, and the local advertiser's account is charged for transmission of the advertisement. In a further embodiment, each of the messages stored in the database is also associated with one or more demographic codes, and users of wireless communications device select from one more demographic codes to describe their advertisement preferences. Messages to be transmitted to particular wireless communications devices are selected based upon both the location information and the demographic codes associated with the messages.

    In an embodiment, a user equipment (UE) detects that a user has made a pre-defined gesture that is associated with setting up a group communication session (GCS) with a communication group. The UE transmits a call request message to an application server to request set-up of the GCS. In another embodiment, the UE receives a user input requesting the UE to monitor for gestures by a user of the UE during the GCS. The UE then monitors one or more sensors during the GCS to detect whether the user of the UE has made a pre-defined gesture. In another embodiment, during the GCS, the UE detects that the user has made a pre-defined gesture, maps the detected gesture to a gesture-based command associated with transitioning the UE's floor-holder status and then transmits a request to facilitate the floor-holder status transition to the application server in accordance with the gesture-based command.

However, non-contiguous transmission of a relay station may lead to channel quality measurement and channel estimation degradation during downlink transparent relay. According to some aspects, a base station may schedule a mobile station to a transmission mode that utilizes dedicated pilot signals for downlink transparent relay, and a relay station may transmit data and dedicated pilot signals over the same channel resources as the base station. According to some aspects, the relay station may null common pilot signals transmitted by the base station.

The method also includes handing over communication from the source access point to a target access point, where the second security key is applied for communicating with the target access point upon the handover when the handover command indicates to apply the second security key.

Example embodiments of the invention may include a wireless communications device having at least two SIM modules sharing one or more RF modems.

  • DYNAMIC RESOURCE MANAGEMENT FOR ORTHOGONAL FREQUENCY DIVISION MULTIPLE ACCESS WIRELESS NETWORKS

    The disclosed subject matter relates to dynamic resource management for wireless network components with a wireless communications environment. Personal base stations can be deployed in a substantially uncoordinated manner resulting in conflicts among wireless radio resources. Dynamically assigning subchannel and dynamically allocating power for subchannels can reduce these conflicts. Dynamic resource management can employ combinatorial auction schema such that assignment of subchannels can be considerate of selecting a power level for performance and to minimize overlapping subchannel interference. In an aspect, several methods can be employed to reduce the computational complexity of the general integer programming problem presented. These several methods can include a Combinatorial Auction with Greedy Algorithm scheme, a Random Equal Subchannel Partition scheme, a Local Combinatorial Auction scheme, and a Neighbors' Poor Channels scheme.

    Systems and methods for scheduling wireless communications of a base station with multiple user mobile stations involve grouping the user mobile stations in clusters based on a predetermined criterion, such as a QoS profile of a user mobile station. Each cluster is assigned with a cluster weight factor that defines a priority level of the cluster. For each user mobile station in each cluster, a priority index may be determined based on the cluster weight factor of a respective cluster, and throughput and fairness factors respectively selected to maximize throughput and provide fairness to user mobile stations. The user mobile stations may be served in an order based on their priority indexes.

In an embodiment, the glucose monitor includes a button for use in wirelessly pairing the monitor to a smart phone for data communication with a non-proprietary communication protocol, and a light source to communicate the progress of the pairing.     A method, system and computer program product for managing content distribution in a mobile communications environment. The communications environment includes a core network and a multitude of end-user devices. When a first of the end-user devices requests a specified content, this map and one or more rules are used to identify a second of the end-user devices having the specified content.     In certain embodiments, a system includes a master node device. The master node device includes communication circuitry configured to facilitate communication with a welding power supply unit via a long-range communication link, and to facilitate wireless communication with one or more welding-related devices via a short-range wireless communication network. The master node device also includes control circuitry configured to associate the one or more welding-related devices with the short-range wireless communication network. The master node device further includes means for manually initiating association of the one or more welding-related devices with the short-range wireless communication network.

  • WIRELESS COMMUNICATION METHOD, BASE STATION AND SYSTEM

    Embodiments of the present invention provide a wireless communication method, base station and system. The base station includes several LED lights and/or several VLC/IR receivers. The several LED lights are configured to send downlink signals in an OFDMA standard to a user terminal, and the several VLC/IR receivers are configured to receive uplink signals that are of an SC-FDMA standard and sent by the user terminal. The base station further includes a baseband signal processing unit configured to equate the several LED lights and/or the several VLC/IR receivers with radio remote units of an LTE mode to perform processing and resource management. The embodiments of the present invention are capable of reusing baseband signal processing and resource management manners in an existing LTE system, thereby simplifying resource management and baseband signal processing operations performed by the base station, and saving the base station resources.
