    Among other things, through an online site, owners of assets and borrowers of assets can arrange sharing transactions with respect to the assets.     An electrochemical cell includes a cell element comprising at least one electrode. A portion of the at least one electrode extends outward from an end of the cell element. The portion of the at least one electrode is folded onto itself to provide a coupling surface for conductive connection to a terminal of the electrochemical cell.

  • TOROIDAL ENGINE

    A toroidal engine that can be powered by a fuel/air mixture or by a compressed gas source. The toroidal engine uses one-way bearings to transfer torque generated in a toroidal chamber directly to a drive shaft. Pairs of pistons are mounted on two crank assemblies, which are concentric with the drive shaft. One-way bearings allow the crank assemblies to turn, one at a time, in one direction only. The crank assemblies are directly coupled to the drive shaft, which eliminates the need for complex gear and linkage arrangements. A system can be used with the toroidal engine to alternately stop the crank assemblies at a pre-determined position and to time the ignition of the engine.

  • Multi-modal transportation system for solar electric vehicle

    A useful system for our transportation needs must be in concert with the ecological and economical needs of the future. The vehicle concept considers all the constrains imposed by battery materials, oil and electric energy availability and production capacity, electric grid power capability and will make transportation cheaper faster and more robust than the current system. The multi-feature vehicle is modular in design separating and placing optimally the functional modules so that many variations are easily possible allowing the range, carrying capacity and multi-modal transportation to be optimized. The multi modal transportation feature is a surrogate for the lack of battery capacity to cover the individual needs for transportation avoiding the need for large capital cost for large batteries and their maintenance. The vehicle may serve as backup power source during blackouts and uses own modular compactable solar energy harvesting devices. The intent of this proposal is to demonstrate the viability of this multi-modal concept and develop the necessary hardware and software to become market ready.

  • Remote Vehicle

    A system for providing enhanced operator control of a remote vehicle driving at increased speeds comprises: a head-mounted display configured to be worn by the operator and track a position of the operator's head; a head-aimed camera mounted to the remote vehicle via a pan/tilt mechanism and configured to pan and tilt in accordance with the position of the operator's head, the head-aimed camera transmitting video to be displayed to the operator via the head-mounted display; and a computer running a behavior engine, the computer receiving input from the operator and one or more sensors, and being configured to utilize the behavior engine, operator input, sensor input, and one or more autonomous and/or semi-autonomous behaviors to assist the operator in driving the remote vehicle. The remote vehicle includes releasably mounted wheels and high-friction tracks.

    It is provided a control device for a vehicular power transmitting apparatus provided with a transmission disposed in a power transmitting path between an electric motor and drive wheels, the control device switching a synchronizing control method of the transmission in a kickdown shifting performed in the transmission to either one of a rotation-synchronization control by a hydraulic pressure control of the transmission and a rotation-synchronization control by the electric motor, depending on an input torque applied to the transmission at the beginning of the shifting.

    A vehicular lamp includes a lamp outer case formed by a cover and a lamp housing; a light source disposed inside the lamp outer case; and a light guide that guides light emitted from the light source, wherein the light guide is shaped as a column. The light guide includes a first extension portion that extends on a horizontal plane side, and a second extension portion that extends on a vertical plane side with respect to a reference line that extends in a direction inclined 45 degrees with respect to the horizontal plane.   • TECHNIQUES FOR ERROR DIAGNOSIS IN VLSI SYSTEMS

    Techniques for designing and storing test input and output data vectors to diagnose bit errors in a testing sequence. In an aspect, test input vectors may be chosen such that the corresponding correct output vectors form codewords of a forward error-correcting code. In another aspect, the correct test output vectors may be compressed to reduce the memory requirements of the testing system. In yet another aspect, test input vectors may be sorted such that the test output vectors are monotonically increasing or decreasing in sequence, and corresponding delta's between output vectors in the sequence may be stored to reduce the memory requirements. Further aspects provide for storing information relating to the correct output vectors in various efficient formats, including storing base value-referenced offsets, and storing relative operations and output vector segments to allow derivation of correct output vectors from memory when required.

  • Vehicle brake control based on learned vehicle mass

    A control system for a vehicle brake comprises a compensation module that determines a compensated brake value based on a vehicle mass and at least one of a pedal force and a pedal displacement, and a brake control module that selectively adjusts a fluid pressure supplied to the vehicle brake based on the compensated brake value. The compensation module determines the compensated brake value based on a comparison of the vehicle mass and a predetermined mass value. A related method for controlling the vehicle brake based on vehicle mass is also provided.

  • Engine speed reduction preparatory to an engine restart

    A method for restarting an engine of a vehicle includes stopping the vehicle and holding the vehicle stationary, reducing engine speed, increasing a rate of reduction of engine speed, if engine speed is less than a reference speed when a desired restart of the engine is indicated, and initiating an engine restart when engine speed is substantially zero.

  • Method and apparatus to determine a preferred output torque for operating a hybrid transmission in a continuously variable mode

    A hybrid transmission includes a torque machine and an energy storage device connected thereto. The hybrid transmission is operative to transfer power between an input member and an output member and the torque machine in a continuously variable operating range state. A method for controlling the hybrid transmission includes determining a preferred output torque, determining a relationship between power from the energy storage device and an output torque of the transmission, determining power constraints from the energy storage device, determining motor torque constraints for the torque machine, determining linear torque constraints to the output torque based upon the motor torque constraints for the torque machine, determining quadratic output torque constraints based upon the power constraints from the energy storage device and the relationship between the power from the energy storage device and the output torque of the transmission device, and determining an output torque to the output member responsive to the preferred output torque and achievable based upon the linear output torque constraints and the quadratic output torque constraints.

  • Device and method for controlling torque applied to wheels of a vehicle

    A motor vehicle power train control device capable of furnishing set signals of torque applied to wheels of the motor vehicle. The control device includes a mechanism to generate a signal representing a limitation of variation in speed of a heat engine integrated in a power train capable of reducing variations that are disturbing with regard to acoustics of the power train, and includes a mechanism to determine an operating point of the power train in an optimal operating range according to the signal that represents limitation of speed. The mechanism for generating the signal that represents a limitation of variation in the speed of the heat engine integrated in the power train is furnished, at an input, by parameters that represent characteristics of the motor vehicle and by parameters that represent the driver's wishes.

    The invention relates to a device for controlling the suspension of the body shell of a motor vehicle. According to the invention, the device comprises: a means for measuring the travel (DEB(A)) and travel speed (VDEB(A)) of the right and left wheels on a front and/or rear axle system in relation to the body shell, a means (61, 62) for detecting a wide range of wheel movement when the travel (DEB(A)) and speed values exceed a threshold, and a means (64) for calculating a set value (ERGD) for the shock absorber actuator when a wide range of wheel movement is detected.

    A control module of a vehicle comprises a drive diagnostic module and a hybrid control module. The drive diagnostic module determines a load energy of an accessory drive system of the vehicle and determines a slip percentage of a belt of the accessory drive system based on an engine speed and a motor speed. The hybrid control module determines a requested motor torque based on at least one of the load energy and the slip percentage. The control module controls a motor of the vehicle based on the requested motor torque.

    An adjustable hinge mountings has a first hinge arm, a second hinge arm, a toothed quadrant centered on a hinge axis and connected to the first hinge arm, a detent part which has a toothed surface feature cooperating with the toothed quadrant and a control part associated with the detent part. The hinge arms can be pivoted between an active angular range in which the detent part is allowed to engage the toothed quadrant and a passive angular range in which the detent part is not located opposite the toothed quadrant so that the detent part is not allowed to engage the toothed quadrant. In the passive angular range, the detent part is retained by the control part in a passive position in which it is not in the range of movement of the toothed quadrant. In the active angular range, the detent part adopts an active position in which the detent part can be brought into engagement with the toothed quadrant. When passing from the passive angular range to the active angular range, the toothed quadrant actuates the control part either directly or indirectly.

    A foldable vehicle floor mat can be used as a ballistic shield when unfolded and attached to a vehicle door. The mat comprises a weather protective layer and an impact-resistant layer.     A vehicular network is a closed network with known sources, destinations, and network connections that can be mapped in advance, and used to identify network resources needed to transmit a packet from a source to a destination. A network module can determine the source destination, and a priority of a packet based on the packet's content. Using the source and destination information, along with a network topology data, the network module can determine if two packets need the same network resources to be delivered to their destination. When the two packets do not use the same resources, there is no conflict, and the packets can be transmitted concurrently regardless of whether one of the packets has a higher priority than another packet. If there is a conflict, the network module transmits the packets based on the packets' priorities.

  • Managing Devices Within A Vehicular Communication Network

    A network node module within a vehicle operates to manage devices coupled to a vehicular communication network of the vehicle based on a use mode defining rights and privileges for operating in the vehicular communication network. Upon being configured in accordance with a particular use mode of a set of use modes, the network node module can identify a device coupled to the vehicular communication network and enable the device to operate within the vehicularcommunication network in accordance with the use mode.     A system for performing multi-level video processing within a vehicle includes a pre-processing module for determining an encoding mode and enabling one or more levels of encoding based on the encoding mode.   • METHOD AND APPARATUS FOR MONITORING A VEHICULAR PROPULSION SYSTEM BATTERY

    A method and apparatus for determining coolant leakage in a vehicular propulsion system battery. An AC isolation resistance test is used to determine whether an isolation fault has occurred within the battery, but can also determine the capacitance of the circuit or system, which can further determine the coolant leakage levels of the vehicular propulsion system battery. This eliminates having an additional device to measure the coolant leakage.

    A vehicular keyless entry system is formed of an in-vehicle device and a plurality of portable devices. The portable device stores received checkup area identification information in a memory circuit. The portable device transmits a response signal including the stored checkup area information and portable device identification information, when a request signal is received from an in-vehicle device. The in-vehicle device checks up a plurality of portable devices based on the portable device identification information included in the response signal, and determines locations of the plurality of portable devices based on the checkup area identification information included in the response signal. The in-vehicle device performs vehicle door locking control operation based on a determination result.

  • SYSTEM FOR VEHICULAR GUIDANCE WITH RESPECT TO HARVESTED CROP

    A discriminator identifies windrow pixels associated with a windrow within a collected image. A definer defines a search space with respect to a vehicle. An evaluator determines respective spatial correlations between the defined search space and the windrow pixels for different angular displacements of the search space. An alignment detector or search engine determining a desired vehicular heading as a preferential angular displacement associated with a generally maximum spatial correlation between the defined search space and the windrow pixels. An offset calculator estimates an offset of the vehicle to a central point of the windrow or a depth axis to achieve the desired vehicle heading and desired position of the vehicle with respect to the windrow.

  • VEHICULAR DAMPING CONTROL SYSTEM

    A vehicular damping control system that executes damping control that suppresses sprung mass vibration in the vehicle by controlling a power source mounted in a vehicle changes the control mode of the damping control according to the operating range of the power source. Changing the control mode of the damping control according to the operating range of the power source enables the vehicular damping control system to improve coordination between the damping control and other control related to the power source, for example, and thus execute appropriate damping control.

  • VEHICULAR REARVIEW MIRROR WITH INCREASED FIELD-OF-VIEW

    An optical element such as a reflector defining a differentiable fiducial surface having a first portion, with a flat region, that seamlessly adjoins, along a curved line, a second portion having a two-dimensionally curved region. The quality of optical imaging in the reflector is drastically improved by reducing the ratio of optical powers measured in two perpendicular directions along the two-dimensionally curved portion of the surface. The vehicular rearview assembly including such a reflector possesses a field-of-view (FOV) that is significantly higher than the FOV of a conventional flat mirror and facilitates visual access to a "blind spot" behind the vehicle.

  • VEHICULAR SHIFT CONTROL DEVICE

    A vehicular shift control device is provided that controls the input rotational speed of a geared transmission by adjusting the rotational speed of a drive source at downshift of the geared transmission. The greater the deceleration of the vehicle, the smaller is set the change gradient of the input rotational speed of the geared transmission. Therefore, even if the decrease rate of the post-shifting synchronization rotational speed is great, the incident angle .gamma. of the input rotational speed of the geared transmission relative to the post-shifting synchronization rotational speed is maintained as a large angle. Even when the deceleration of the vehicle during downshift is great, the downshift is smoothly executed without producing an excessive synchronization shock.

  • COMMUNICATION METHOD OF A VEHICULAR ACCESS POINT, A VEHICULAR USER EQUIPMENT, AND A MACRO BASE STATION

    Provided is a communication method of a vehicular access point, a vehicular user equipment, and a macro base station for a user present in a vehicle capable of effectively forming an operational relationship between the vehicular access point and the macro base station using a plurality of operational modes. The plurality of operational modes may be differentiated based on an operation of the vehicular access point and the macro base station, and are capable of transitioning thevehicular access point from an active state to an idle state by a triggering with respect to the vehicular access point.

  • VEHICULAR SEAT

    A vehicular seat capable of effectively mitigating lateral direction vibrations is provided. In the present vehicular seat (10), a pair of leg portions (32A) of a headrest frame (32) are coupled to a seatback frame (20) to be relatively turnable about a longitudinal direction axis of a seatback (18). Joint portions 32C are provided between the pair of leg portions (32A) and a middle portion (32B) of the headrest frame (32). Thus, the headrest (14) is made turnable to left and right with respect to the seatback (18). Furthermore, the headrest (14) is urged toward a middle position of the range of turning with respect to the seatback (18) by rubber members that are provided between a headrest support (24) and a support bracket (20C). Thus, when lateral direction vibrations are applied to the presentvehicular seat (10), the headrest (14) functions as a dynamic damper.

  • VEHICULAR BRAKING CONTROL DEVICE

    To provide a vehicular braking control device which, at the time of a collision of a host vehicle, can apply a braking force to the host vehicle while reducing the potential for a rear-end collision from a following vehicle. A vehicular braking control device equipped with collision detecting means that detects a collision of a host vehicle and braking force applying means that applies a braking force to the host vehicle when a collision of the host vehicle has been detected includes: following vehicle running state detecting means that detects whether or not there is, and the running state of, a following vehicle; following vehicle braking force detecting means that detects whether or not the following vehicle has a braking control device on board; and avoidance determining means which, in a case where there is the following vehicle at the time of a collision of the host vehicle, discriminates whether or not the following vehicle can avoid the host vehicle on the basis of information detected by the following vehicle running state detecting means and the following vehicle braking force detecting means, wherein the braking force applying means varies the braking force it applies to the host vehicle on the basis of the result of the determination by the avoidance determining means.

  • VEHICULAR LAMP

    The present disclosure has been made in an effort to provide a vehicular lamp that can adopt a low-priced material having a low heat-resisting temperature as a material for a reflector. A vehicular lamp includes a tail and stop lamp bulb and a reflector reflecting light from bulb to the front of the lamp, in a lamp chamber defined by a lamp body and a front cover. In addition, lamp body includes an opening for exposing the rear surface of reflector in the vicinity of tail and stop lamp bulb to the outside of the lamp chamber.

  • VEHICULAR ELECTRONIC KEY SYSTEM

    A vehicular electronic key system includes a vehicle having a key cylinder and a portable device. The portable devise includes a key body and a mechanical key. The key body is communicatable with the vehicle. The mechanical key is attachable to and detachable from the key body and mechanically rotates the key cylinder whereby the communication between the vehicle and the portable device allows the vehicle to execute predetermined functions. The key body includes a key detector configured to detect an attachment state and a detachment state of the mechanical key to and from the key body so that the key body transitions to a valet mode to limit some of the predetermined functions executable by the vehicle in accordance with the communication between the vehicle and the portable device while the key detector detects the detachment state of the mechanical key from the key body.

  • VEHICULAR STORAGE SYSTEM

    A vehicular storage system includes a frame coupled to an interior of a rear of a vehicle and a drawer, which is movably coupled to the frame. The drawer of the system is movable between a stowed position in which most or at least a substantial portion of the drawer is within the rear of the vehicle and a deployed position in which a substantial portion of the drawer is positioned rearward of the vehicle in a manner that makes the contents of the drawer accessible to a user outside of the vehicle. The drawer includes drop rails on opposing sides engageable with a pair of corresponding stationary frame rollers so that the drawer is movable along a path defined by the drop rails relative to the frame rollers of the frame.

  • INTEGRATED PRESSURE VESSELS FOR VEHICULAR APPLICATIONS

    A fuel vessel assembly for a fuel cell-powered vehicle and a method of increasing the structural rigidity of a fuel cell-powered vehicle. A vessel for storage of hydrogen or related fuel cell-compatible fuel is rigidly attachable to a vehicular frame or related load-bearing structure through one or more shells that extend from the vessel. Loads imparted to one or more of the shell, vessel frame are transmitted between them through the connection between the assembly and the frame such that a load-bearing capability inherent in the frame is enhanced by the assembly.

  • VEHICULAR PERIPHERAL SURVEILLANCE DEVICE

    A vehicular peripheral surveillance device includes an obstacle recognition sensor 12 which monitors an obstacle around a host vehicle 100, a lane recognition sensor 11 and a vehicle state quantity sensor 13 which detect the traveling state of the host vehicle 100, and a risk computing unit 20 which predicts the movement of the obstacle using information acquired by the obstacle recognition sensor 12, and computes a risk of the obstacle to the host vehicle 100 on the basis of the predicted movement of the obstacle. A waiting point, which is a point where the vehicle should stand by until permission is given by the loader to the vehicle, is set on a driving path. The authorized entity provides to the interested target vehicle a decryption key for authorizing ongoing use of the multimedia content.

    A vehicular control system includes a smart key carried by a user and operated by an embedded battery and a verification ECU mounted in a vehicle. A wireless communication is made between the smart key and the verification ECU. The smart key performs periodically a switchover of a detection sensitivity for detecting a transmission electric wave transmitted from the verification ECU between a normal sensitivity and a high sensitivity. The mobile crane is provided with simple operation that are all automatically performed by the control unit, which improves driving safety remarkably and prevents an accident of vehicle overturning.

    A handling machine performs a method for updating a database for managing a fleet of vehicles, during replacement of a tyre on a vehicle that includes a plurality of predetermined spatial zones.     A flexible enclosure assembly for an electronic device for vehicular application is virtually "fastenerless" and includes a preform blank of conductive sheet material such as wire screen mesh or the like which defines upper, lower and a plurality of side wall portions flexibly interconnected by living hinges. A framework of resilient elastomeric material is insert molded to the preform blank to provide three-dimensional case details to accept one or more electronic devices such as circuit boards required for electrical control and display of vehicle based systems. The conductive sheet material is preferably a wire mesh which provides shielding from electrical anomalies and grounding of the circuit boards via exposed wire mesh pads and adjacent ground clips. Major components and subassemblies are self-fixturing during the final assembly process, eliminating the need for dedicated tools, fixtures and assembly equipment.

  • ELECTRO-OPTIC REARVIEW MIRROR ASSEMBLY FOR VEHICLE

    A reflective element assembly for a vehicular rearview mirror assembly includes front and rear substrates with an electro-optic medium disposed therebetween. An electrical connector has an attachment portion and a wire receiving portion for receiving an electrical wire therein. A flange of the attachment portion is configured to be disposed at a fourth surface of the rear substrate and a tab is configured to extend at least partially across a perimeter edge of the rear substrate. An electrically conductive material is disposed in an uncured state and uncured electrically conductive material flows at least partially through the aperture and is cured to secure the electrical connector at the rear substrate. The wire receiving portion of the electrical connector is configured to receive the electrical wire therein and includes at least one tang that engages the electrical wire when the electrical wire is inserted into the wire receiving portion.
