    A resin composition is described that is excellent in strength, impact resistance, heat resistance and moldability, while further allowing for a reduction in the amount of CO.sub.2 needed for its production. The resin composition includes a styrene-based resin (A), an aliphatic polyester (B) and at least one species selected from a compatibilizer (C) and a dicarboxylic anhydride (D), wherein the compatibilizer is preferably at least one species selected from: (C-1) a methyl methacrylate polymer; (C-2) a vinyl-based polymer to which an epoxy unit or acid anhydride unit is copolymerized; (C-3) a graft polymer in which a methyl methacrylate unit is grafted to a rubbery polymer; and (C-4) a block copolymer having a polylactide segment and a vinyl-based polymer segment.

    An assembled ceramic body having blocks attached to one another by means of a seal, the lateral surface of the ceramic body possibly being coated with a peripheral coating, the seal and/or the peripheral coating including a set cement having less than 10% of inorganic fibers, as a percentage by weight based on the dry mineral matter, in a section plane perpendicular to at least one of the facing faces of the blocks assembled by said seal, having macropores with an equivalent diameter in the range 200 .mu.m to 40 mm in a quantity such that the total surface area in said section plane occupied by said macropores represents more than 15% and less than 80% of the total surface area observed.

  • WOOD PRESERVATIVE AND WOOD PROCESSING METHOD

    The present invention relates to a wood preservative containing as an active ingredient 3'-isopropyl-2-trifluoromethyl benzoic acid anilide represented by the formula below and a wood treatment method using the same. The present invention can provide a wood preservative having excellent preservation effect on various wood-destroying fungi with a very small chemical dosage and a wood treatment method, which are economical and have a small environmental load.

  • ANTI-EXPANSION JOINT BRIDGE CONSTRUCTED THROUGH DETAILED SURVEY FOR BRIDGE

    Disclosed herein is an anti-expansion joint bridge which eliminates an expansion joint structure from an upper structure thereof, and includes a plurality of slidable steel plates to cover a space between girders or floor slabs expanding and contracting on piers and asphalt concrete pavement on the steel plates, so that expansion and contraction of the girders occurring on the piers is prevented from affecting the pavement, thereby ensuring smooth travel of vehicles thereon. The anti-expansion joint bridge includes a pair of expandable/contractible girders separated from each other while constituting an upper structure of the bridge, a plurality of sliding plates overlapping each other on the girders while covering a gap between the girders, and an ascon part covering the pair of girders together with the sliding plates.

  • Lightweight structure concrete composition

    A lightweight structural concrete is composed of coarse structural aggregate sized between 1/4'' to 1/2'' occupying 15% to 25% of total concrete volume, large non-structural lightweight aggregate such as expanded polystyrene bead of a particular size distribution and volume amount, small size non-structural lightweight aggregate or entrained air cells of another specific size distribution and volume amount, and a dense cementitious composition comprising cement binder, pozzolan, and fine structural filler no larger than concrete sand ASTM C33.

  • Slurry rheology modifier

    A slurry rheology modifier comprises a first water-soluble low-molecular compound [referred to hereinafter as compound (A)] and a second water-soluble low-molecular compound [referred to hereinafter as compound (B)] being different from the compound (A), wherein the viscosity of an aqueous solution at 20.degree. C. prepared by mixing an aqueous solution S.sub.A (with a viscosity at 20.degree. C. of 100 mPas or less) of compound (A) with an aqueous solution S.sub.B (with a viscosity at 20.degree. C. of 100 mPas or less) of compound (B) in the ratio of 50/50 by weight can be at least twice as high as the viscosity of either aqueous solution before mixed.

  • Cement-based fire door core

    The present invention describes an improved building material composition, useful for example as a fire door core. The building material of the present invention is prepared by compressing an aqueous mixture of expanded perlite and a fast setting, cementitious composition consisting essentially of a hydraulic cement, preferably Portland cement, and a pozzolan additive selected from the group consisting of metakaolin, VCAS and mixtures thereof, and preferably also includes an organic binder and a fibrous reinforcement.

  • Architectural panels with embedded objects

    A decorative architectural glass panel comprises a two or more glass sheets separated by a resin in which one or more decorative objects are suspended. A method of making the glass panel comprises positioning one or more spacers and one or more decorative objects on a first glass sheet, placing a second glass sheet about the first glass sheet, sealing the edges of the first glass sheet and second glass sheet, and filling the space between the first and second glass sheets with a curable liquid resin. The resin can be poured using a substantially horizontal pour in order to keep the decorative objects from substantially shifting when pouring the liquid resin. The resin can also be poured in combination with a vacuum force. In some implementations, the glass panel may also be substituted with a resin panel using polymeric resin sheets.

  • Polymer-fiber composite building material with bulk and aesthetically functional fillers

    Polymer composite roofing materials are provided which contain resin, and about 20-75 wt. % fillers and additives, in which the fillers contain at least one bulk filler for reducing the amount of resin needed to make the roofing material, and at least one aesthetically functional filler for providing the roofing material with an aesthetic appearance. The bulk filler and the aesthetically functional filler of this embodiment are non-toxic, resistant to microbial attack, and have a Mohs hardness of less than about 5.

  • Non-slick surface-seeded aggregate concrete and method of forming

    A non-slick surface-seeded exposed aggregate concrete product and method of making the same enhances the coefficient of friction of an exposed surface thereof to reduce undesirable slipping and sliding. Implementations of the present invention are characterized by the use of fine sand and aggregate broadcast over the exposed surface, which surface has been prepared to receive the same. After curing, the exposed surface is then ground and acid-etched to define fissures, cracks, and/or sharp edges of the aggregate. Subsequently finishing steps are performed to produce the non-slick concrete product which may be used for high traffic pedestrian areas where foot gripping and traction are important, such as on stairs, ramps, walkways, courtyards, and the like.

  • Building material as well as a method for manufacturing the same and use of the building material

    The present invention relates to a building material consisting of a moulded product of a base material, which moulded product is provided with at least one cavity, which cavity is filled with a filler in the form of loose particles, which loose particles have been bonded together by means of a binding agent, wherein the binding agent is present on the loose filler particles in the form of droplets. The present invention furthermore relates to a method for manufacturing such a building material In addition to that the present invention relates to a use of the present building material.

  • Engineered wood fiber product substrates and their formation by laser processing

    A laser is used to a form information indicative of a pattern on a surface of a support piece formed from a compressed wood fiber product substrate. The pattern can be a wood grain. The field of the laser is increased, to allow lazing more of the material at once. According to an embodiment, the field is increased in a way that does not reduce the resolution of the lasing.

  • Manufacturing cementitious reinforcing support devices

    Lightweight trays are fabricated containing a multitude of cavities in shapes for molding dobies for supporting concrete reinforcing, such as rebar. The trays are sized to fit boxes of a convenient size and weight. The trays are also designed in a way that when placed into the box they make a seal between the tray edges and the inside wall of the box. This seal allows the cavities in the tray to be filled with grout without spilling into a lower tray. The trays are also designed so that when placed into the box and turned, alternating 180.degree. to each other, the lower tray provides support to the upper tray. The boxes are sealed and the dobies are allowed to cure inside the box. The size and arrangement of trays and boxes is designed to fit uniformly on a standard pallet for convenient handling, storage, and shipping.

  • Cementitious material

    A method of manufacturing a hydratable cementitious material, which includes: a) providing at least one waste material containing calcium, silica, magnesium, aluminium, and/or iron; b) thermally treating each waste material to a first temperature such that surface water vapour present is substantially removed; and c) blending the treated waste material such that the resultant blend has a reactive oxide chemical/physical composition in the following range, by weight of the blend: Calcium Oxide 7.0 to 76% Alumina 0.1 to 30% Iron Oxide 0.4 to 19% Silica Oxide 1 to 36% Magnesia 0.1 to 2%. The resultant blend from step c) may subsequently be mixed with Portland cement.

  • Strong Materials of Construction and Coatings Comprising Inorganic Binders with Fibre Reinforcement

    The invention relates to a composition including an acid-stable inorganic binder and fibres. The composition includes at least one inorganic binder and fibres, wherein the inorganic binder comprises water glass, the fraction of the composition which is attributable to water glass preferably being in the range from 2% to 99% by weight or 6% to 94% by weight or 11% to 89% by weight or 21% to 79% by weight. The fibre material is present as a weave and/or knit and/or scrim and/or net and/or brous nonwoven web and/or as hollow fibres. Owing to its high strength coupled with low weight, this material of construction is very useful for fabricating ready-made components for structural and civil engineering. In addition, it is also very easy to produce structural components and engineered structures on site. It is possible to realize very light components, to achieve very delicate geometries and, owing to the favourable strength-to-weight ratio, to build unusually high structures.

  • METHOD OF DAMPING THE VIBRATIONS OF STAY CABLES AND ASSOCIATED SYSTEM

  • Air Riding Seal

    An improved air-riding seal system for turbine engines is presented. The seal system includes a movable primary seal assembly, a stationary secondary seal assembly, and at least one structure to increase the stiffness of a thin film between the primary seal and a rotating component. The primary seal assembly includes an annular seal ring and an arcuate support arm. The annular seal ring has a cross section that is substantially L-shaped and a surface with a step face and a circumferential dam. The arcuate support arm has a tooth at one end adjacent to an outermost circumferential surface along the seal runner, which could include an optional notch. The tooth and outermost circumferential surface are separated by a gap. A plurality of radial dams disposed along the surface in an outward radial arrangement from the circumferential darn is provided to improve the stiffness of the thin film.

  • FLEXIBLE SUBSTRATE SENSOR SYSTEM FOR ENVIRONMENTAL AND INFRASTRUCTURE MONITORING

    A sensor system utilizing flexible electronics for on-line real-time high-sensitivity sampling, monitoring, and analysis of a parameter or analyte of interest in a fluid or in or on a solid is provided. The flexible substrate sensor system comprises a plurality of sensors, a flexible substrate, a network, and a connection between the sensors and the network, wherein the network reads out or collects information from the sensors. The network can be onboard, connected by via a physical connection to the sensors and the flexible substrate, or external to the sensors and flexible substrate, connected via a telemetric or wireless connection to the sensors. The flexible substrate sensor system can be deployed in systems that conduct or distribute fluids or solids, such as distribution systems (municipal water systems, oil or gas pipeline systems), industrial systems (production facilities, piping, and storage systems), and large structures (dams, bridges, walkways, buildings).

  • UTILITY GRID STABILIZATION APPARATUS AND METHOD,AS WELL AS WIND POWER GENERATING SYSTEM

  • Self-Propelled Civil Engineering Machine

    A civil engineering machine includes an arrangement for assisting the driver of the machine when reversing which has a calculating unit to determine data which defines at least one trajectory of the civil engineering machine as a function of the position of the front and rear running gear, both as a function of a steering angle and as a function of a mode of steering. The arrangement for assisting the driver of the machine when reversing also has an image detecting unit for detecting an image of the rear part of the civil engineering machine and a display unit for displaying the detected image of the rear part of the civil engineering machine. An image processing unit superimposes a representation of the at least one trajectory on the image of the rear part of the civil engineering machine which is displayed on the display unit.

  • AIR-DRYING POLYESTER (METH)ACRYLATE RESIN COMPOSITION, STRUCTURE, AND METHOD FOR APPLYING THE RESIN COMPOSITION

    An object of the present invention is to provide an air-drying polyester (meth)acrylate resin composition in a curing system of a ketone peroxide curing agent and a cobalt-based curing accelerator, the resin composition being used as a topcoat in the field of civil engineering and construction, and having such good properties as, when coated or stacked, being capable of forming a cured coating film with no bubbles remaining therein due to non-bubbling properties of suppressing the generation of bubbles in the course of the curing reaction and being free from problems related to room-temperature curability such as a retarded gelation time, even after being stored for about one month; a structure coated with the resin composition; and a method for applying the resin composition.

  • INTELLIGENT HYDROELECTRIC DAM WITH POWER STORAGE

    Dams are a useful source of energy. An embodiment of a dam according to the present invention includes precast segments configured to be coupled together to form a dam optionally used to generate energy. An embodiment includes a spillway extender to prevent upstream or downstream erosion of a riverbed at the dam. An underpinning system may be employed to assist in maintaining position of the dam or segmental components. Solar panel energy generation systems and battery storage may be associated with the segmental dam to store energy and, optionally, produce auxiliary power for subsystems associated with the dam, such as for supporting automated spillway control gate level control or automated gearing system control to control a gear ratio associated with rotating or other moving parts used to convert kinetic energy of water into electrical energy.

The device can comprise one or more outriggers which are adapted to remove the container from the motor vehicle and which can be used to deposit the container on a job site, There is also disclosed a process as well, which includes at least one of the following steps providing a base slab floor; bull floating the base slab floor, inspecting the base slab floor for debris, utilizing a measuring device to survey height dimensions, applying an adhesive intermediary, inserting plastic pins with respect to survey measured points, mixing a self leveling compound, pumping the mixed compound through a conveying system, and smoothing the mixed compound to create a uniform surface and floor which is cured.

    Systems and methods for building competence in employees of an organization are described herein. In one implementation, a competence building system includes a deliverable definition module to identify a one or more deliverable slices associated with a work product based on a deliverable definition. The deliverable definition indicates a plurality of tasks that need to be completed for building the deliverable slices. Further, a competence identification module of the competence building system identifies a one or more competencies associated with the deliverable slices. Furthermore, the competence identification module identities a one or more resources to be provided to a one or more employee, wherein the employee possesses a minimum level of competence.

  • BUILDING FACADE SURFACE FOR SEASONAL SELECTIVENESS OF SOLAR IRRADIATION ABSORPTION AND REFLECTION

    Disclosed are various building facade surface configurations and related methods. An exemplary facade includes grooved cavities that are configured in a manner that reflects summer (cooling season) insolation and absorbs winter (heating season) insolation. The effective absorptivities of the exemplary facade for various cavity reflectance characteristics, i.e., a wide range of diffuse and specular reflectance characteristics, are evaluated using a Monte Carlo model. The calculations in an illustrated embodiment are performed for the latitude of 41.degree. N where both heating and cooling loads are significant. Embodiments of facades and other structures are similarly within the scope of the disclosure for locations of different latitudes and longitudes.

  • Building Structure and Method

    A load bearing structure including a first fixed net layer, a second fixed net layer and a non-linear structure in between. The first fixed net layer may include a first layer of flexible fabric and a fixing material that fixes the shape of the first layer of flexible fabric. The second fixed net layer may include a second layer of flexible fabric and a fixing material that fixes the shape of the second layer of flexible fabric. The non-linear reinforcing structure may be in communication with the first and second fixed net layers and may be configured to share with the first and second fixed net layers a load applied to the load bearing structure.

A method includes displaying an image representing at least a portion of a building, wherein at least part of the image is a three-dimensional representation; and displaying a representation of a device associated with the building, wherein the representation of the device is selectable through the user interface.

  • SUPPORTING STRUCTURES FOR BUILDING INTEGRABLE PHOTOVOLTAIC MODULES

    Building integrable photovoltaic (BIP) modules include photovoltaic inserts for producing electrical power and supporting structures for mechanically attaching and supporting the insert with respect to a building structure, such as roof tops. The supporting structures may include ventilation ribs that form ventilation channels under the photovoltaic insert and, in certain embodiments, under other components of the module. These ribs may be used to provide mechanical support to the entire module. In specific embodiments, ventilation channels of one module are configured to coincide with ventilation channels of one or more other like modules and to form a continuous channel along the roof edge. The supporting structures may be used to form moisture barriers in between two modules, such as side glitters. In certain embodiments, supporting structures are separate components and are attached to the insert to form a module during fabrication or installation of the module on a building structure.

  • METHODS AND DEVICES FOR MAKING A BUILDING BLOCK FOR MORTAR-FREE CONSTRUCTION

    The invention discloses devices and methods for making building blocks for construction that requires neither mortar nor additional internal or external finishing. A building block includes joining elements for attaching blocks from top to bottom as well as from side to side. Additionally, blocks have internal and external finishes that are complete. Thus, after construction of a structure, there is no additional need to paint, hang wallpaper or otherwise treat the outer and inner walls of the final structure.

  • SYSTEM AND METHOD TO MEASURE AND CONTROL POWER CONSUMPTION IN A RESIDENTIAL OR COMMERCIAL BUILDING VIA A WALL SOCKET TO ENSURE OPTIMUM ENERGY USAGE THEREIN

    A system and method to measure and control power usage within a residential or commercial building plurality having of electrical circuits electrically connected to an over-current protection device to ensure optimum energy usage therein. The system and method includes a power measurement and control device electrically connected to one of the electrical circuits by which a load draws power that is operable to (i) measure an electrical parameter of the electrical circuits, (ii) compare the measured electrical parameter to an ideal electrical parameter, and (iii) adjust power supplied to one or more of the electrical circuits based on the comparison of the measured electrical parameter and the ideal electrical parameter via a wall socket. The adjustment of power may be automatic or manual deactivation, decrease, and/or increase of power supplied to the electrical circuits via the wall socket so that such is equivalent to or less than the ideal electrical parameter.

  • DIGITAL SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR BUILDING EMERGENCY AND DISASTER PLAN IMPLEMENTATION

    An emergency and disaster preparedness system is hosted on a computer system with a secure network interface using a terminal for user interface to the system communicates through the network interface. A security management module for user authentication connects an authenticated user into the system. A communications module provides and sets active alerts for all users. An administrative console provides management of system functions. A learning management system operable from the system incorporates a plurality of function specific databases for user information on the building structure, content and environs. A portable emergency response tool (ERT) operable independently or through the network interface is an integral portion of the system. The ERT has a portion of the plurality of function specific databases integrally stored thereon and functions specifically for use by first responders separate from or communicating with the overall system.

  • POWER MANAGEMENT IN ENERGY BUFFERED BUILDING CONTROL UNIT

    A thermostat includes a plurality of HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) wire connectors for receiving a plurality of HVAC control wires corresponding to an HVAC system. The thermostat also includes a thermostat processing and control circuit configured to at least partially control the operation of the HVAC system and a powering circuit coupled to the HVAC wire connectors and configured to provide an electrical load power to the thermostat processing and control circuit. The powering circuit has a power extraction circuit configured to extract electrical power from one or more of the plurality of received HVAC control wires up to a first level of electrical power, a rechargeable battery, and a power control circuit coupled to the power extraction circuit, the rechargeable battery, and the thermostat processing and control circuit. The power control circuit is configured to provide the electrical load power using power from the power extraction circuit and the rechargeable battery.

    The present invention relates to improvements to building construction. Particularly, the present invention relates to a structural unit for the use in building construction of floors, roofs and walls of a building. There is provided a structural unit for a building comprising: at least one truss; at least one fibrous cementitious building element; and at least one connection member configured to connect the at least one truss to the at least one fibrous cementitious building element, wherein, the connection member is integral with the building element and accessible for connection of the at least one truss to the building element. Also claimed is a method of constructing the structural unit.

  • BUILDING SYSTEM CONTROL AND EQUIPMENT FAULT AND DEGRADATION MONETIZATION AND PRIORITIZATION

    An approach for monetizing performance of building system equipment such as HVAC equipment. Expected and actual performance curves may be obtained for the HVAC equipment. Differences between the curves may indicate energy consumption. The energy consumption may be monetized. The monetizing may be of degradation that occurs when the equipment deteriorates, incurs a fault or has a loss of performance as accrued over time. Monetizing may incorporate maintenance and capital risk exposure. The monetizing may be a conversion of analyses of the equipment to money in real time. Performance monitoring of the equipment may incorporate predictive trending which may lead to fault prognosis and preventative maintenance. Automation of the conversion may result in immediate information and feedback to customers. The information may be stored for historical purposes and future analyses.

    A system and method for realizing a building system is disclosed. Because high-productivity high-performance computing resources are used, modeling, optimization, simulation, and verification can be performed from a single platform on a scale which heretofore has not been applied to complex building systems. Additionally, the holistic approach to complex building systems involves using a centralized database to manage all of the information related to a building system.

The sensor systems supply data to a digital processor (40) having analysis and graphical information system (GIS) software (44) that fuses the data and presents it for delivery and use.

  • Method and System for Remotely Inspecting Bridges and Other Structures

    Spatially Integrated Small-Format Aerial Photography (SFAP) is one aspect of the present invention. It is a low-cost solution for bridge surface imaging and is proposed as a remote bridge inspection technique to supplement current bridge visual inspection. Providing top-down views, the airplanes flying at about 1000 feet can allow visualization of sub-inch (large) cracks and joint openings on bridge decks or highway pavements. On board Global Positioning System (GPS) is used to help geo-reference images collected and facilitate damage detection. Image analysis is performed to identify structural defects such as cracking. A deck condition rating technique based on large crack detection is used to quantify the condition of the existing bridge decks.

The local node may then probe each particular neighbor node according to the respective occurrence frequency to determine the rate of change in distance between the local node and each particular neighbor node, and one or more routing metrics for reaching each particular neighbor node. As such, the local node may select, based on the probing, a suitable preferred next-hop node of the set of neighbor nodes for a corresponding routing topology.

    Described herein are systems and methods for presenting building information. In overview, the technologies described herein provide relationships between Building Information Modeling (BIM) data (which includes building schematics defined in terms of standardized three dimensional models) and Building Management System (BMS) data (which includes data indicative of the operation of building components such as HVAC components and the like). Some embodiments use relationships between these forms of data thereby to assist technicians in identifying the physical location of particular pieces of equipment, for example in the context of performing inspections and/or maintenance. In some cases this includes the provision of 2D and/or 3D maps to portable devices, these maps including the location of equipment defined both in BIM and BMS data. In some cases, augmented reality technology is applied thereby to provide richer access to positional information.

    Disclosed are various building facade surface configurations and related methods. An exemplary facade includes grooved cavities that are configured in a manner that reflects summer (cooling season) insolation and absorbs winter (heating season) insolation. The effective absorptivities of the exemplary facade for various cavity reflectance characteristics, i.e., a wide range of diffuse and specular reflectance characteristics, are evaluated using a Monte Carlo model. The calculations in an illustrated embodiment are performed for the latitude of 41.degree. N where both heating and cooling loads are significant. Embodiments of facades and other structures are similarly within the scope of the disclosure for locations of different latitudes and longitudes.

The intermediate node may then forward the RREQs towards a target node in the computer network. The intermediate node may then receive one or more reactive routing route responses (RREPs) from the target node. Based on those RREPs, the intermediate node may then build a second DAG in the computer network that may be rooted at the target node. In this manner, the intermediate node may then forward traffic from the originating node toward the target node according to the second DAG (with alternate routes to the target node).

The drainage joints may have upwardly and downwardly oriented legs joined via a bridge in an H-configuration.

    There is provided a method for managing an Ethernet ring network of a VLAN-based bridge that includes: registering a major-ring VID (VLAN ID) in a ring port filtering database of a ring protection link owner node in accordance with a request for registering the major ring VID (VLAN ID) from an ERP (Ethernet Ring Protection) controller mounted on the ring protection link owner node of a major ring; delivering, by the ring protection link owner node, a VID registration message to other nodes which belong to the major ring through a ring port; receiving the VID registration message through the ring port and registering the major ring VID in a ring port filtering database of each node itself, by each node which belongs to the major ring; and delivering, by each node which belongs to the major ring, the VID registration message to other nodes which belong to the major ring through the ring port.
