    A method of image processing in a radiological apparatus includes reconstructing a 3D image of a body from a set of radiography projection images, locating structures presumed to be representative of 3D radiological signs within the 3D image, determining a set of 2D candidate particles corresponding to projections of the presumed 3D radiological signs, assigning, through a fuzzy logic description, to the 2D candidate particles a degree of membership in 2D membership classes of a set of membership classes, each membership class being relative to a type of radiological sign, considering a 2D fuzzy particle being formed by the set of the 2D candidate particles and by their respective degrees of membership in a class, making an aggregate of the 2D fuzzy particles to obtain 3D fuzzy particles in a digital volume, and determining a degree of confidence for each 3D radiological sign from the 3D fuzzy particles.

    An image of an anatomical structure can be analyzed to determine an enclosing three-dimensional boundary when the anatomical structure is filled with two substances, such as air and a fluid. Various techniques can be used to determine the enclosing boundary including: analyzing the virtual structure to segment the structure into air and fluid pockets, determining if there are multiple fluid pockets whose surface touches a single air-fluid boundary, determining a separate threshold for respective fluid pockets, resegmenting the virtual anatomical structure using the separate threshold for different fluid pockets, forming a hierarchical pocket tree which represents the relationship between the fluid and air pockets, pruning the pocket tree based on various criteria which corresponds to deleting those pruned portions from the virtual anatomical structure, and resegmenting the remaining virtual anatomical structure using one or more of fuzzy connectedness, two-dimensional gap filling, and level set segmentation.

  • BRAIN IMAGING SYSTEM AND METHODS FOR DIRECT PROSTHESIS CONTROL

    Methods and systems for controlling a prosthesis using a brain imager that images a localized portion of the brain are provided according to one embodiment of the invention. For example, the brain imager can provide motor cortex activation data using near infrared imaging techniques and EEG techniques among others. EEG and near infrared signals can be correlated with brain activity related to limbic control and may be provided to a neural network, for example, a fuzzy neural network that maps brain activity data to limbic control data. The limbic control data may then be used to control a prosthetic limb. Other embodiments of the invention include fiber optics that provide light to and receive light from the surface of the scalp through hair.

  • METHOD AND SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING AN INDUSTRIAL PROCESS

    A control system for controlling an industrial process includes an indicator generator configured to determine at least one fuzzy logic based indicator from measured process variables. The control system also includes a state estimator configured to determine estimated physical process states based on the fuzzy indicator. For controlling the industrial process, the process controller is configured to calculate manipulated variables based on (i) defined set-points and (ii) a physical model of the process using the estimated physical process states. Combining a fuzzy logic indicator with a model based process controller provides robust indicators of the process states for controlling an industrial process in a real plant situation in which measured process variables may possibly contradict each other.

    Method and system for determining skinline in digital mammogram images. The method includes smoothening a digital mammogram image to yield a smoothened image. The method also includes determining gradient in the digital mammogram image to yield a gradient map. Further, the method includes extracting breast region from the digital mammogram image based on the smoothened image and the gradient map using fuzzy rule based pixel classification to yield a binary image. Moreover, the method includes filtering the binary image to remove noise and to yield a filtered image. The method also includes extracting boundary of the breast region in the filtered image. Furthermore, the method includes detecting the skinline based on the boundary of the breast region.

  • Weight-Prediction System and Method Thereof

    The present invention provides a weight-prediction method comprising the following steps: providing the first-period data and the second-period data of basic users and proving users, respectively; using an Artificial Neural Network method to analyze the first-period data and second-period data of basic users to calculate a basic parameter; analyzing the first period data of proving users by using a Fuzzy Inference system based on the basic parameter and then calculate a predictive data; comparing the predictive data with the second-period data of proving users and determining if the predictive data is in an acceptable range. If the predictive data is certainty in the acceptable range, the basic parameter is defined as a predictive parameter.

  • ROBUST AUTOMATED HIERARCHICAL DETERMINATION FOR POWER MONITORING SYSTEMS

    An automated hierarchy classification algorithm that searches for a child monitoring device's parent in a utility monitoring system by segmenting the device data measured by a given device pair and calculating a segment correlation coefficient for each data segment. Devices to be placed in the hierarchy are filtered by calculating the variance of their device data and eliminating devices with a low variance. Devices are ranked by computing the sum of squares of their device data and ordering the devices accordingly from highest to lowest. The device data is segmented and segment correlation coefficients are averaged to produce an overall correlation coefficient. Criteria are evaluated to determine whether a device pair is linked. A correlation coefficient is calculated using the complete data series of a device pair, and the solution produced by this approach is compared with the solution produced by segmenting the device data. If the solutions disagree, a likely candidate is determined from a fuzzy logic module.

  • SYSTEM AND METHOD OF LEARNING-BASED MATCHING

    Some embodiments match address data in a database system having a corpus of address information stored therein. In some embodiments, an external address data for a company that is associated with a set of locations is received. Some embodiments determine whether the external address data matches existing address data that includes the set of locations using fuzzy matching techniques. In order to determine whether two addresses match, some embodiments perform fuzzy matching techniques that uses learned knowledge to identify aliases in the address pair. In situations where a contact is specified along with the external address data, the contact is tethered to one of the set of locations when the external address data is determined to match an address within the existing address data. Some embodiments create a new location for the company using the external address data when the external address data does not match the existing address data.

  • SYSTEMS AND METHODS FOR TRAINING A SELF-LEARNING NETWORK USING INTERPOLATED INPUT SETS BASED ON A TARGET OUTPUT

    Embodiments relate to systems and methods for training a self-learning network using interpolated input sets based on a target output. A database management system can store sets of operational data, such as financial, medical, climate or other information. A user can input or access a set of target data, representing an output which a user wishes to be generated from an interpolated set of input data. The interpolation engine can generate a conformal interpolation function and input sets that map to the set of target output data. After interpolation, the interpolation engine can transmit the interpolated inputs, along with the set of target output data and other information, to a self-learning network such as a neural or fuzzy logic network. The self-learning network can be trained to converge to the target output based on the interpolated input results as generated by the interpolation engine, thus reproducing the desired interpolation function.

    In one aspect, the invention concerns a method of operating a chatbot to engage in a conversation with a correspondent the method comprises building a profile having plural profile variables for the correspondent; and during the conversation with the correspondent; selecting a node in the conversation data structure for processing based on the one or more profile variables, and processing the node to follow a conversation path based on the node's coded instructions and/or relationship with other nodes. In another aspect, the method comprises the steps of attempting to match the received input message with a node in the conversation data structure of the chatbot; if a matched node is found, selecting the matched node for processing; but if a matched node is not found, selecting a node for processing using a fuzzy search, or using a default procedure.

    Provided are a speech search device, the search speed of which is very fast, the search performance of which is also excellent, and which performs fuzzy search, and a speech search method. Not only the fuzzy search is performed, but also the distance between phoneme discrimination features included in speech data is calculated to determine the similarity with respect to the speech using both a suffix array and dynamic programming, and an object to be searched for is narrowed by means of search keyword division based on a phoneme and search thresholds relative to a plurality of the divided search keywords, the object to be searched for is repeatedly searched for while increasing the search thresholds in order, and whether or not there is the keyword division is determined according to the length of the search keywords, thereby implementing speech search, the search speed of which is very fast and the search performance of which is also excellent.

  • METHOD OF GENERATING AN INTEGRATED FUZZY-BASED GUIDANCE LAW FOR AERODYNAMIC MISSILES

    The method for generating an integrated guidance law for aerodynamic missiles uses a strength Pareto evolutionary algorithm (SPEA)-based approach for generating an integrated fuzzy guidance law, which includes three separate fuzzy controllers. Each of these fuzzy controllers is activated in a unique region of missile interception. The distribution of membership functions and the associated rules are obtained by solving a nonlinear constrained multi-objective optimization problem in which final time, energy consumption, and miss distance are treated as competing objectives. A Tabu search is utilized to build a library of initial feasible solutions for the multi-objective optimization algorithm. Additionally, a hierarchical clustering technique is utilized to provide the decision maker with a representative and manageable Pareto-optimal set without destroying the characteristics of the trade-off front. A fuzzy-based system is employed to extract the best compromise solution over the trade-off curve.

  • FUZZY LOGIC-BASED CONTROL METHOD FOR HELICOPTERS CARRYING SUSPENDED LOADS

    The fuzzy logic-based control method for helicopters carrying suspended loads utilizes a controller based on fuzzy logic membership distributions of sets of load swing angles. The anti-swing controller is fuzzy-based and has controller outputs that include additional displacements added to the helicopter trajectory in the longitudinal and lateral directions. This simple implementation requires only a small modification to the software of the helicopter position controller. The membership functions govern control parameters that are optimized using a particle swarm algorithm. The rules of the anti-swing controller are derived to mimic the performance of a time-delayed feedback controller. A tracking controller stabilizes the helicopter and tracks the trajectory generated by the anti-swing controller.

  • PREDICTING ECONOMIC TRENDS VIA NETWORK COMMUNICATION MOOD TRACKING

    A method of investigating public mood from a multi-dimensional model approach and a method to predict economic market trends above chance level based on the multi-dimensional model approach are provided. The text-content of several large-scale collections of daily network communications are analyzed via mood assessment tools, measuring various mood dimensions. A Granger Causality analysis investigated the correlation between daily changes in public mood states via results of the daily mood time series of the mood assessment tools with changes in value of the Dow Jones Industrial Average ("DJIA") over time. Based on the above investigation, a Self-Organizing Fuzzy Neural Network model was trained to predict next-day DJIA value based on a combination of past DJIA values and public mood state measurements across several specified mood dimensions, such as calm and a combination of calm and happy.

  • Perception Model For Trajectory Following Autonomous And Human Augmented Steering Control

    A steering control method including the steps of obtaining a heading error, obtaining a velocity value, obtaining a distance error, applying the heading error and defuzzifying an output from a steering rule base. The velocity value and the distance error are applied along with the heading error to fuzzy logic membership functions to produce an output that is applied to a steering rule base. An output from the steering rule base is defuzzified to produce a steering signal.

  • METHOD FOR DETECTING FIRE-FLAME USING FUZZY FINITE AUTOMATA

    A method for detecting a fire flame using fuzzy finite automata is provided. The fire-flame detection method comprises (1) acquiring an image required for the detection of fire-flame, (2) dividing the image into a number of blocks, (3) extracting a fire-flame candidate block using a brightness distortion of a pixel in the block, (4) detecting a fire-flame candidate region from the fire-flame block using a color probability model, and (5) determining whether the fire-flame candidate region corresponds to a fire-flame via fuzzy finite automata. The fire-flame detection method can detect fire-flames in a variety of fire images with relatively high precision, by establishing a probability model using the brightness distortion and wavelet energy in fire-flame regions with continuous and irregular fluctuation patterns and using the upward motion, and applying the model to fuzzy finite automata.

  • FUZZY MATCHING AND SCORING BASED ON DIRECT ALIGNMENT

    Various embodiments provide a translation memory system that utilizes sentence-level fuzzy matching and a scoring algorithm based on direct alignment. In one or more embodiments, a fuzzy match scoring formula includes use of an edit operation definition to define various deductions that are computed as part of an overall score, an overall scoring algorithm, and word-level scoring and partial match definitions. A direct alignment algorithm finds a computed alignment between two sentences using a pair-wise difference matrix associated with a primary sentence and a comparison sentence. An overall algorithm identifies editing operations such as replacements, position swaps and adjustments for a final score calculation. Once final scores are calculated between the primary sentence and multiple comparison sentences, a primary/comparison sentence pair can be selected, based on the score, to serve as a basis for translating the primary sentence.

    The system and method for determining fuzzy cause and effect relationships in an intelligent workload management system described herein may combine potential causes and effects captured from various different sources associated with an information technology infrastructure with substantially instantaneous feedback mechanisms and other knowledge sources. As such, fuzzy logic may the be applied to any such patterns to determine possible relationships among the potential causes and the potential effects associated with the infrastructure operational state.

    A system and method for character error correction is provided, useful for a user of mobile appliances to produce written text with reduced errors. The system includes an interface, a word prediction engine, a statistical engine, an editing distance calculator, and a selector. A string of characters, known as the inputted word, may be entered into the mobile device via the interface. The word prediction engine may generate word candidates similar to the inputted word using fuzzy logic and user preferences generated from past user behavior. The statistical engine may generate variable error costs determined by the probability of erroneously inputting any given character. The editing distance calculator may determine the editing distance between the inputted word and each of the word candidates by grid comparison using the variable error costs. The selector may choose one or more preferred candidates from the word candidates using the editing distances.

  • Adaptive Front-Lighting System with Fuzzy Logic Control

    An adaptive front-lighting system is provided for a vehicle, such as a passenger car, truck, or tractor trailer. A plurality of LED light sources on the vehicle have a projection pattern for exterior illumination to supplement a main beam from a main light source. A power supply drives the LED light sources according to a driving signal having a magnitude between a minimum driving signal and a maximum driving signal, wherein the LED light sources sequentially illuminate in response to the magnitude of the driving signal. A speed sensor characterizes an instantaneous vehicle speed. A turn sensor characterizes an instantaneous turning radius. A fuzzy controller generates the driving signal in response to the instantaneous vehicle speed and the instantaneous turning radius based on a fuzzy model. The fuzzy model is characterized by a plurality of empirically-derived fuzzy rules that define discontinuous values and by a plurality of modified consequents that produce a substantially continuous output.

The fire-flame detection method can detect fire-flames in a variety of fire images with relatively high precision, by establishing a probability model using the brightness distortion and wavelet energy in fire-flame regions with continuous and irregular fluctuation patterns and using the upward motion, and applying the model to fuzzy finite automata.

  • FUZZY PROXIMITY BOOSTING AND INFLUENCE KERNELS

    A method and apparatus are provided for ranking documents according to relevancy scoring. In one implementation, a computer-implemented method is provided for receiving, from a database over a network, a document resulting from a search on a database, the document containing terms that match the search criteria. The method may calculate a standard deviation of a probability distribution function representing a distribution of the terms in the document that match the search criteria. The method may further determine relative distances between the terms in the document that match the search criteria according to the standard deviation. The method may further calculate a proximity boost value using the relative distances, and apply the proximity boost value to a base relevancy score of the document to determine a relevancy ranking. The document may then be ranked according to the relevancy ranking.

  • FUZZY SEARCHING IN A GEOCODING APPLICATION

    Various embodiments of systems and methods for fuzzy searching in a geocoding application are described herein. A lexical analysis is performed on an input address whose geocoding information is to be obtained to obtain portions of the input address. In one aspect, the lexical analysis may include at least one of a parsing operation, an abstraction operation, and a stretch operation. Next, a fuzzy searching is performed on a knot-sequence tree, using the portions of the input address, to identify a plurality of partial addresses which match with the input address. Next, a transposition and matching score is computed for each of the identified plurality of partial address to determine the best matching candidate for the input address. Finally, the geocoding database is queried with the best matching candidate to obtain the geocoding information of the input address.

  • FUZZY SEARCHING IN A GEOCODING APPLICATION

    Various embodiments of systems and methods for fuzzy searching in a geocoding application are described herein. A lexical analysis is performed on an input address whose geocoding information is to be obtained to obtain portions of the input address. In one aspect, the lexical analysis may include at least one of a parsing operation, an abstraction operation, and a stretch operation. Offline planning based on robot kinematic and dynamic models, including actuators, is performed to generate a large dataset of trajectories, covering most of the robot workspace and minimizing time and energy, while avoiding singularities and limits on joint angles, rates, accelerations and torques. The method implements an augmented Lagrangian solver on a decoupled form of the PKM dynamics in order to solve the resulting non-linear constrained optimal control problem. Using outcomes of the offline-planning, the data-driven neuro-fuzzy inference system is built to learn, capture to and optimize the desired dynamic behavior of the PKM. The optimized system is used to achieve near-optimal online planning with a reasonable time complexity. The effectiveness of the method is illustrated through a set of simulation experiments proving the technique on a 2-degrees of freedom planar PKM.

According to the method of the present invention, the mobile station can automatically adjust the handover mechanism according to signal strength of the current access point and the adjacent point and change rate of signal strength and the better handover performance can therefore be achieved.

    A computer-implemented method for retrieving information from a dataset of multiple records includes the steps of receiving a search phrase from a user or client application, the search phrase having a query keyword prefix, and traversing a multilayered spatial tree using the query keyword prefix until a termination condition occurs. The multilayered spatial tree is constructed using geographic information and has a root node and a plurality of child nodes including a plurality of leaf nodes. Each leaf node is associated with a corresponding list of records. At least some of the nodes are each associated with a corresponding hybrid filter including an object filter and a child filter. The object filter directly points to one or more records, and the child filter points to one or more child nodes for a subsequent traversal step.

    Methods and systems are described herein for managing an aggregation database. Matching rules that describe filters may be defined to determine how to match a media content record received from an external source to a stored record in the aggregation database.     Various embodiments include at least one of systems, methods, and software for product notice monitoring. Some embodiments include at least one product notice database that is an aggregation of product notices, such as product recalls, bulletins, safety notices, updated usage guidelines, and the like, that may be issued by various different sources. The product notice database is monitored in such embodiments in view of products of an organization to identify possible matches. When a possible match is identified, the notice is provided to the organization. Some embodiments may include routing the notice to particular people or departments responsible for the relevant product(s) of the notice. The matching in some embodiments may be relative matching based on one or more forms of fuzzy logic, which allows for approximate matching, although not necessarily identical. The product notice monitoring may be performed in whole or in part in the cloud.
