Among the different dermatological diseases conditions, deep pyoderma is usually getting multiple antibiotic resistances in dogs. Six dogs with signs of deep pyoderma in association with demodicosis were selected for the present study. Demodicosis was confirmed by the presence of different stages of Demodex spp. mites in skin scrapings, hair plucks, tape impression smears and discharges from ears. Dogs showed hair fall, foul odour, pruritus, folliculitis, hyper-pigmentation and erythematic lesions all over the body regions. Dogs were successfully treated with oral ofloxacin (5 mg/kg body weight, BID), oral ivermectin and bathing with shampoo containing benzoyl peroxide. The duration of treatment for resolution of deep pyoderma was 24 to 31 days. None of the dogs showed any adverse reactions. Based on the present study, it is recommended that ofloxacin is one of the good efficacy antibiotics against deep pyoderma in dogs. Selection of the antimicrobials is essential in dogs with deep pyoderma and resistance is a major concern. Based on the higher clinical efficacy and consideration of the length of treatment, ofloxacin is considered as choice of antimicrobial agent against deep pyoderma due to demodicosis in dogs.
