A non-descriptive buffalo in her fourth lactation was referred to the Veterinary Clinical Complex with a complaint of bellowing, head pressing and loss of body condition. Buffalo was calved four weeks back and similar signs were also noticed in the previous lactation. Laboratory examination of clinical samples revealed anaemia, leucopaenia, low serum glucose and albumin levels, presence of the ketone bodies in urine. Peripheral blood smear examination positive for Trypanosoma evansi organisms. Buffalo was successfully treated with intravenous administration of 20 % dextrose, intramuscular diminazene aceturate injection along with oral administration of gluconeogenic precursors and probiotics.
