Co-morbid depression refers to depression that occurs in the presence of another illness. People with chronic (long-term) physical illnesses, especially those with conditions that produce a lot of pain, restriction of activity or a poor outlook are all prone to developing depression on top of their existing illness. Physical illnesses that are commonly associated with co-morbid depression include: Cancer, heart disease, stroke, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and diabetes. The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of counseling among co-morbid depressive disorder patients in selected hospitals, Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. A pre experimental one group pre test post test research design was adopted. The 50 comorbid depressive patients were selected by simple random sampling. Beck depression inventory were used for data collection. The findings shows that the post test depression scores were 30(60%) minimal depression, 18(36%) mild depression, 2(4%) moderate depression and the effectiveness of counseling among co-morbid depressive disorder patients was found out through paired 't' test (t=17.529) at p<0.001. According to mean there was significant difference between pre and post test level of depression score decreased from 25.5 to 12.72 and t-value is after giving counseling. The counseling is very much effective on reducing depression among co-morbid depressive disorder patients.
