The aim of the present study is to evaluate prescribing pattern and therapeutic outcomes in patients with dyslipidemia. A Prospective, observational study was carried out in the department of general medicine and cardiology for a period of one year in a tertiary care teaching hospital in south India after obtaining the ethical clearance. The patient data was collected by using a well designed questionnaire after taking their consent. The questionnaire was used to evaluate the prescribing pattern and asses the therapeutic outcome. A total of 80 patients were included, out of which 65 patients were males and 15 patients were females. 76 (95%) patients were on statins and 4(5%) patients were on combination therapy including a statin and a cholesterol absorption inhibitor or a fibrate or a nicotinic acid. Among the statin users atorvastatin was prescribed in 72(94.7%), Rosuvastatin in 5.2% of patients. In non coronary heart disease low risk group 83.75% achieved low density lipoprotein cholesterol goal. In high risk group 44.12% achieved the low density lipoprotein cholesterol goal. When the overall population is compared only 25% achieved the low density lipoprotein cholesterol goal. This study concludes that atorvastatin was prescribed in majority of study population. Achieving Low density lipoprotein cholesterol goal was observed in High risk <20% coronary heart disease risk category of the study population.
