Liver disease complication is one of the most common causes of morbidity and mortality in diabetic patients. Hepatotoxicity did not receive as much attention as other prevalent complications (i.e., Cardiopathy, Retinopathy and Nephropathy) until hepatotoxicity of antidiabetic drugs emerged as a common clinical complication. This article is an attempt to summarize the current understanding of hepatotoxicity of antidiabetic drugs. Diabetic mice appear to be less susceptible to show hepatotoxicity at same doses compared to rats, suggest that for study as hepatotoxicity mice may not be a preferred species to study long term toxicity specifically related to liver function in diabetic condition.
