Inflammation is the physiological response of vascular tissues to harmful stimuli at the inflammatory site. It is a protective attempt to initiate healing process. Inflammation is caused by release of chemicals from tissues and migrating cells. Inflammatory diseases include asthma, inflammatory bowel disease, osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, allergic rhinitis, multiple sclerosis and cardiovascular diseases. This review article discusses about inflammation, its types, mediators, anti-inflammatory drugs and toxicity of anti-inflammatory drugs.
