The pilosebaceous units produced sebum transfer by sebaceous ducts and later get moved on the skin surface with the help of hair follicle. The measurement of sebum secretion is depend upon the removal of lipid from the skin surface while several methods like gravimetric and chromatographic analysis is done for extraction of collected lipids. The Sebutape along with application of densitometric and computer-assisted image analysis methodology utilized for the determination of sebum secretion rates. The androgenic hormones play vital roles in sebum secretion depending upon the age of person. The composition of sebum consists of esters and sterol esters. The sebum play vital role as a water repellant on fur in hairy mammals while in human it is required for lubrication of skin. The rate of sebum production determines the occurrence and severity of acne.
