Jatropha is a multipurpose shrub and it has been introduced in the tropical countries for the production of bio diesel an alternative to non renewable diesel for engines. Beside the production of biodiesel it also has many other uses like medicinal purposes, production of soap, cattle fodder etc. In many parts of India farmers have been using Jatropha for fencing the agricultural lands. Besides protection from entry of cattle and animals during hot summer these plants act as barrier against hot winds and play vital role in reducing the evapotranspiration rates. Jatropha plant root exudates influence pathogenic fungi, bacteria and nematodes in various ways. In ancient systems of medicines Jatropha is mentioned as medicinal herb. This mini review is an effort to understand the effect of these root exudates in Jatropha and the plant pathogens affecting the crops thus having an economic importance.
