The current review article is an attempt to explain the novel therapeutic potential and overall concern to mangiferin. This review article presents a comprehensive literature search of different study carried out on synthesis, metabolism, structure elucidation and its other isoforms, extraction, its pharmacokinetic, pharmacological activity and mechanism of mangiferin. Mangiferin is a C-glucosylxanthone, isolated from naturally occurring several genera such as gentianaceae, anacardiaceae, hippocrateacaea, celastraceae. Mangiferin is currently of interest due to its biological properties such as improved long term memory deficits, antioxidant, antimicrobial, antidiabetic, antiallergic, anticancer, hypocholesterolemic, etc. This review article concerns with extraction, isolation and detection of mangiferin from different species of plant. This review article also covers the different techniques for optimisation of extraction. Here, it is a comprehensive review on chemical features, synthesis of its derivatives, structure elucidation and other isoform its pharmacokinetics and biological activities as well as its mechanism action of MGF.
