The present study was aimed at assessing the in-vitro anti-oxidant activity of ethanolic extract of the stem bark of Phyllanthus embelica by various methods namely Total Reducing power and 1,1-diphenyl 2 picryl hydrazyl (DPPH) radical scavenging activity. The alcoholic extract of Phyllanthus embelica showed significant percentage amount of inhibition in dose dependent manner compared to standard antioxidant ascorbic acid. Our data provide evidence that the crude ethanolic extract of stem bark of Phyllanthus embelica is a potential source of natural antioxidant and this justified its uses in folkloric medicines.
