Medicinal plants are the best source to obtain different drugs, about 80% of people in industrialized countries uses traditional medicines for their health benefit. Herbal medicine has been the basis of treatment and cure various physiological condition in traditional methods of practice such as Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha. Melaleuca viminalis, commonly known as weeping bottlebrush or creek bottlebrush, is a plant in the myrtle family Myrtaceae, (Some Australian state herbaria continue to use the name Callistemon viminalis) is known to have medical importance. An ornamental plant stands for its numerous attributes such as antibacterial, antifungal, anthelmintic hemostatic, diuretic. Studies have shown anthelmintic, anti-quorum sensing, insecticidal, anti-infective, antibacterial, molluscicidal, antioxidant, anticancer, anti-inflammatory, anti-platelet aggregation properties of the said plant possess a wide range of phytoconstituents like phenolics, triterpenoids, flavonoids, saponins, steroids, alkaloids, tannin, carbohydrates, amino acids, and protein compounds. This review includes the information concerning the cultivation, morphology, microscopic studies, phytochemical constituents, pharmacological action and reports on M. viminalis.
