A prospective bactericidal activity of various marketed soaps was performed against bacterial strains i.e. Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli and Bacillus subtilis to ascertain the efficacy of different soaps in daily use. Disc diffusion method was used to determine activity of individual sample and micro dilution technique was utilized to determine the potency. Among the four soaps used are Lifebuoy®, Dettol®, Medimix® and Lux®. The highest efficacy was shown by Dettol against B. subtilis. The second most effective soap was Lifebuoy against S. aureus. The third most effective soap was Medimix against E. coli, the next soap which was highly used was Lux, has shown better activity against S. aureus, good activity against E. coli and minimum activity against B. subtilis.
