The use of medicinal plants is gaining momentum from the last few decades. Though the knowledge of using medicinal plants dates back, the advances in chemical and pharmaceutical investigations added a great level of status to the use of these plants by revealing the presence of active principles and their actions on human and animal systems. One such garden vegetable plant showing a wide range of applications is raphnus, a genus from the family of brassicaceae. Raphnus well known as “mullangi” is an annual or biennial herb with succulent taproot which has been used as food sine prehistoric time. All the parts of the plant have medicinal values and are used in treating various ailments. The present review mainly focus on the pharmacological, phyto chemical, ethno botanical, pharmacological uses of mullangi.
