The Nail Lacquers are the largest and widely used group of manicure preparations for enhancing the beauty of nails. Conventional nail lacquers generally consist of solvents, film forming polymers, resins and plasticizers. Nail lacquers containing drug are fairly new formulations and have been termed transungal delivery system. Many antifungal agents as ciclopirox, amorolfine, econazole, caryophyllene oxide are incorporated in nail lacquer for treatment of Onychomycosis. Ciclopirox 8% solution is the topical antifungal widely used for onychomycosis. This compound is fungicidal in vitro against proliferating and dormant fungal cells. Amorolfine is a morpholine derivative which is used topically as an antifungal agent having broad spectrum of activity. The present review details the various studies carried out to prove the efficiency of formulating these two antifungals in nail lacquer.
