This article summarizes the key emergency nursing interventions for a case of acute copper sulfate pentahydrate poisoning, which included: Early comprehensive care for copper ion elimination, complication prevention and recognition, dynamic nutritional support psychological care and continuity of care. Through intensive monitoring and meticulous nursing, the patient achieved stable vital signs and was eventually discharged with significant clinical improvement....
Background/Objectives: Evidence-based nursing practice (EBNP) is essential in highacuity settings such as intensive care units (ICUs) and emergency departments (EDs), where nurses are frequently required to make time-critical, high-stakes clinical decisions that directly influence patient safety and outcomes. Despite its recognized importance, the implementation of EBNP remains inconsistent, with frontline nurses often facing barriers to accessing and applying current evidence. Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study systematically mapped and prioritized clinical questions generated by ICU and ED nurses at a tertiary hospital in South Korea. Using open-ended questionnaires, 204 clinical questions were collected from 112 nurses. Each question was coded and classified according to the Nursing Interventions Classification (NIC) taxonomy (8th edition) through a structured cross-mapping methodology. Inter-rater reliability was assessed using Cohen’s kappa coefficient. Results: The majority of clinical questions (56.9%) were mapped to the Physiological: Complex domain, with infection control, ventilator management, and tissue perfusion management identified as the most frequent areas of inquiry. Patient safety was the second most common domain (21.6%). Notably, no clinical questions were mapped to the Family or Community domains, highlighting a gap in holistic and transitional care considerations. The mapping process demonstrated high inter-rater reliability (κ = 0.85, 95% CI: 0.80–0.89). Conclusions: Frontline nurses in high-acuity environments predominantly seek evidence related to complex physiological interventions and patient safety, while holistic and community-oriented care remain underrepresented in clinical inquiry. Utilizing the NIC taxonomy for systematic mapping establishes a reliable framework to identify evidence gaps and support targeted interventions in nursing practice. Regular protocol evaluation, alignment of continuing education with empirically identified priorities, and the integration of concise evidence summaries into clinical workflows are recommended to enhance EBNP implementation. Future research should expand to multicenter and interdisciplinary settings, incorporate advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence for automated mapping, and assess the long-term impact of evidence-based interventions on patient outcomes....
Purpose: This study aimed to clarify the actual state of dialogue support by nurses between terminally ill patients with cancer and their families in the face of visitation restrictions imposed in the post-COVID-19 era in Japan. Methods: The participants were 607 nurses with at least 2 years of experience working at 33 hospitals with more than 100 beds and currently involved in the care of terminally ill patients with cancer. Data were collected via an anonymous online questionnaire from February to March 2025. The questionnaire included items on basic attributes, visitation restrictions, online dialogue support, and a revised self-assessment scale for nurses about enhancing dialogue support between terminally ill cancer patients and their families. Statistical analyses, including unpaired t-tests, were conducted to calculate descriptive statistics. Results: The final analysis included 293 respondents (valid response rate: 48.3%), 90.4% of whom indicated that there were visiting restrictions in their hospital ward. No significant relationship was found between the presence or absence of visitation restrictions and the frequency of dialogue support practices. Those with experience providing dialogue support online using video calls or Zoom (36.5%) had significantly higher total scores on the dialogue support self-assessment scale (p < 0.000) than those without such experience (63.5%), and they tended to practice dialogue support between terminally ill cancer patients and their families more frequently on a daily basis. Conclusion: Since many facilities continue to restrict visits, it is important to provide dialogue support that takes into consideration the process before and after visits. Considering each patient’s overall condition and the difficulty of having dialogue via a screen, online dialogue support that incorporates consideration for families serves as a catalyst for raising nurses’ awareness of improving the quality of dialogue support and contributes to daily nursing practice....
Objective: To summarize the application of enhanced recovery after surgery (ERAS) in the perioperative nursing of patients undergoing transoral robotic surgery (TORS) for oral and pharyngeal tumor resection. Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the perioperative enhanced recovery after surgery nursing of 142 patients with oral and pharyngeal tumors who underwent transoral robotic surgery at the Cancer Center of Sun Yat-sen University from March 2022 to July 2025. This includes strengthening preoperative multi-disciplinary joint physical examination and assessment, preoperative preparation and psychological care, postoperative airway management, oral care, dietary management, etc., as well as the prevention and treatment of complications. Results: The average surgery time for patients was 157.3 minutes, with an average intraoperative blood loss of 77.8 mL. Ten patients (7%) underwent tracheostomy, while the remaining patients did not and showed no symptoms of airway obstruction. Postoperative bleeding occurred in nine patients (6.3%), but no damage to normal organs was observed after hemostasis. Twenty-one patients (14.8%) had postoperative pain scores greater than 4, which were alleviated after symptomatic treatment. The postoperative nasogastric tube indwelling time was (15.2 ± 10.8) days, after which all patients could eat orally. The average hospital stay was 6.5 days. Conclusions: For patients undergoing TORS resection of oral and pharyngeal tumors, when implementing perioperative care in enhanced recovery after surgery, strengthening postoperative airway management, oral care, dietary management, etc., as well as the prevention and treatment of complications, can ensure the surgical outcome and promote the patient’s recovery....
The nursing profession has experienced significant transformations in leadership approaches over the past decade, driven by evolving healthcare demands, technological advances, and changing workforce dynamics. This paper examines the evolution of nursing leadership styles in clinical settings from 2015 to 2025, analyzing the shift from traditional hierarchical models toward more collaborative, transformational, and relationship-focused approaches. Through a comprehensive review of recent literature, this study identifies key trends including the predominance of transformational leadership, the emergence of ambidextrous leadership models, and the increasing emphasis on authentic and servant leadership styles. The findings demonstrate that contemporary nursing leaders are adopting more adaptive, emotionally intelligent, and patient- centered leadership approaches that prioritize staff engagement, professional development, and improved patient outcomes. This evolution reflects the profession’s response to complex healthcare challenges and the need for sustainable, effective leadership models in an increasingly demanding clinical environment....
