Arthritis is derived from the Greek: “arthron” meaning “joint” and “itis” meaning inflammation. Osteoarthritis is a type of arthritis. When knee is affected by osteoarthritis is known as knee osteoarthritis. Many treatments are available; none is universally safe and effective. Therefore, there is need to prepare polyherbal formulations to provide safe and effective treatment. This study was conducted to assess the efficacy and safety of Osteoarthritis capsule and Oil. These formulations, in patients with knee osteoarthritis. This was 3 months, open-labelled study of these formulations in 19 patients suffering from knee osteoarthritis. Patients received 2 capsules twice daily and Oil to be applied over the knee once times in a day for 3 months. The efficacy was evaluated on the basis of knee osteoarthritis parameters like severity of pain, joint swelling, muscle rubbing, morning stiffness, difficulty in climbing steps, no. of joints involved, joint space. 19 patients completed the study with reduction in symptoms of knee osteoarthritis to varying degrees. Statastical analysis was done by paired‘t’ test. At end of , month 1, 2 and 3, mean score of severity of pain had a fall of 2.36,1.35,0.73 ,joint swelling had a fall of 1.41, 0.68,0.10, muscle rubbing had a fall of 1.42, 0.73, 0.26, morning stiffness had a fall of 1.63, 0.89, 0.36 ,difficulty in climbing steps had a fall of 1.79,1, 0.26, no. of joints involved had a fall of 2.57, 1.31,0.36, joint space had a fall of 0.47, 0.51, 0.55 respectively.. This study confirms the efficacy and safety of these formulations in Indian patients with knee osteoarthritis....
Urolithiasis affects 1-5% of population with higher incidence in developing countries. It has been hypothesized that diet and lifestyle becomes an important etiological factor and objective of the study to find out the same in the present study. The study design is retrospective and sample size is around 100 patients of kidney stone, either newly diagnosed or patient with reoccurrence as per selection criteria. It has been hypnotized that diet containing rich uric acid, calcium, oxalic acid increases the chance of occurrence of kidney stone. The mean value of score of food, which increases risk of occurrence of kidney stone, is 19.62 out of 40 and mean value of score of food, which decreases risk of occurrence of kidney stone is 14.58 out of 40. Thus, it has been found from the study that there is some significant correlation between the dietary habit and the occurrence of kidney stone. It has been hypnotized that life style with less work also play an important role in to occurrence of kidney stone, but as per the result of study the ratio of patients having Hard : Normal : Less :Very Less working habit is respectively 33:41:12:14. So, it has not confirmed that the obesity and life style with less physical work increases the risk of kidney stone. Some other parameters like less water consumption or drinking water without filtration by ceramic filters or Reverse Osmosis system can increases or decreases risk of occurrences of kidney stone significantly....
The COVID-19 pandemic originated in Wuhan, China has caused considerable economic and medical losses worldwide. In the midst of the ongoing Covid-19 outbreak, researchers made tremendous efforts to develop vaccines against the infection. COVID-19 is a challenge with its mass exposure to new agents that may cause vaccines not to be as effective as they have been in relatively small numbers in previous studies. It must be stressed that the effectiveness of vaccines probably outweighs the slight risk of adverse effects, but this does not seem feasible when so many people are exposed. The COVID-19 pandemic can serve as a wakeup call for developing countries to strengthen their pharmacovigilance systems since a trustworthy pharmacovigilance system is vital for safe use of COVID-19 vaccines. In combination with the rapid vaccine development as well as the uncertainty of potential long term adverse events, COVID-19 safety and efficacy studies should be conducted rigorously. Implementing mass vaccinations efficiently requires an ongoing multidimensional active pharmacovigilance strategy. Short term side effects are moderate in frequency, mild in severity and short lived. Adverse effects are more likely to affect young individuals, women and people who have had COVID-19 in the past. However, when so many people around the world are exposed, collecting data from those who believe they have been injured is crucial to their safety. Public health authorities depend primarily on the public to report sensibly and respond to requests for further information....
During the past 5 decades, an increasing percentage of the population has attained geriatric status. The care of the elderly population is very essential and needy. The changes during aging will make more susceptible for medical and psychosocial issues. The current study explores the diseases pattern in geriatrics. A prospective interventional study was carried out for a period of three and half years from JAN-2014 to JUN-2018 with one of the objective to study geriatric disease pattern (≥65 years). The information of was collected, from hospital inpatients of various departments and old age home. The final diseases diagnosis was classified using International Classifications of Diseases (ICD10). The current study results showed a total of 526 geriatric patients, ≥65 years of age were enrolled, among them 294 (55.89%) males, young older (65-74 Years) 75.29%, 51.71% literate, stay at home 50.57%, lower Class 42.21%, upper class 30.42% and upper middle class 20.91% presented with more medical problems than others. The single morbidity was more 46.58%. The most of the diseases affecting the circulatory system (I00-I99) was more 41.83% than others. The research conclude about geriatrics disease pattern with, males, young older age group, single morbidity, literate, socioeconomically lower class and affect on circulatory system is more. The geriatric diseases pattern study is useful to enact for the betterment of health care....
Osteomyelitis is an inflammatory bone disease that is caused by infecting microorganisms and leads to progressive bone destruction and loss. The most common causative species are the usually commensal staphylococci, with Staphylococcal aureus and staphylococcal epidermidis responsible for majority of the cases. It can happen is a bacterial or fungal infection enters into the bloodstream, due to injury or surgery. Osteomyelitis in children is a serious disease requiring early diagnosis and treatment to minimize the risk of sequelae. Symptoms include deep pain and muscle spasms in the inflammation area, pain. Around 80 percent of cases develop because of an open wound. The case study is about a 10-year-old girl who was diagnosed with chronic osteomyelitis with pathological fracture of right femur. The patient has a history of chronic discharge present on the posterior aspect of the right thigh for 1 month. Fever, weakness and swelling present. Her past medical and medication history includes a history of fracture and lateral aspect of the distal right femur for 2 years, using pain relievers, neosporin powders for 2 years. X-ray, culture report, blood tests were done. By this test patient had confirmed that she had chronic osteomyelitis to the right femur, the patient is anemic. The treatment approach through wound debridement of devitalized tissues and necrotic bone, the commencement of culture directed antibiotics, antipyretics and vitamin supplements are given to the patient. After 10 days of antibiotic administration, debridement done to remove the bacteria load and devitalized bone....
Research study design is defined as a plan, protocol, strategy or scheme of a study. The studies are useful to find out the unidentified effects and things concerning the drugs and diseases. To solve the troubles regarding the drugs and diseases a suitable research study design should be selected. The choice of study is based on the purpose of the study. And well designed study will obviously recognize an exposure and an outcome. The research study designs are classified into two types, one as observational study, second as interventional and both studies further classified into different types. Observational studies will be completed in soon or quickly when compared with the interventional studies, but observational studies are useful only for to set the hypothesis whereas interventional studies useful to test hypothesis and to identify the causes. Apart from these two studies other studies like Nested hybrid study designs, different Randomized study designs are there to find out the answers for the particular questions regarding the drugs and diseases. Each study has their own advantages and disadvantages in terms of the money and time. However, understanding of the various studies is important....
Paracetamol is an important drug in the category of analgesic & antipyretic used in treatment of acute pain, But yet many of us know little pharmacokinetics. The determination of pharmacokinetics of the drug is the determination of absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion (ADME) time course of drug and how it is related to pharmacological activity of drug such as its therapeutic and toxic activity. The determination of drug concentration in saliva as an alternative body fluid for pharmacokinetic determination is widely accepted now days. It is mainly suitable for geriatric and pediatric patient as it can be collected easily with minimal patient discomfort and obtained on multiple occasions. The determination of drug concentration in saliva has been employed for therapeutic drug monitoring and measurement of various pharmacokinetic parameters, which can provide knowledge of patient-specific pharmacokinetic parameters leading to improved therapy. The present study was undertaken to evaluate the pharmacokinetics of model drug in saliva when administered in different media like water, milk, juice and to measure the concentration in the saliva in healthy volunteers....

Prediabetes is an intermediate stage between clinical diabetes and normal glycaemia. Patient with prediabetes condition are more susceptible to diabetes and its associated cardiovascular disorder and diseases. Early known of prediabetes subjects reduces the development of diabetes and cardiovascular diseases. Pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione (TZD) that is peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor (PPAR-γ) agonist’s insulin sensitizer, is known to reduce risk of atherosclerosis in prediabetic and diabetic subjects. Various preclinical and clinical studies have been shown the protective effect of pioglitazone on atherosclerosis in prediabetic and type-2 diabetic patients. Neutralization of cardiovascular risk factor associated with insulin resistance was turn out to be more important than its effect on blood glucose in spite of its controversy of bladder cancer....
Urolithiasis is affecting 10-12% of the population in industrialized countries. The reoccurrence rate is also high. Ionic strength and activity coefficient are the untouched terms in concern of urolithiasis. In the present study, we evaluated the effect of ionic strength of different urinary electrolytes on CaOx crystallization in vitro. CaOx precipitation was induced by the addition of 0.1M sodium oxalate to artificial urine (n=5) in presence of urinary electrolytes in increasing ionic strength order and in absence of urinary electrolyte (control). The presence of CaOx crystals was evaluated immediately by determining OD at 620 nm, size of crystals and Calcium ion concentration. The results saw inhibitory effect of urinary electrolytes on CaOx crystal growth in artificial urine, suggesting thationic strength may increase the solubility of CaOx crystals by reducing mean molar activity co-efficient, Statistical analysis by comparison of variables of each electrolyte at all levels shows significant difference (P<0.05). Multiple Turkeys t-test concluded that difference is significant at all ionic strength level (P<0.0001). Electrolyte therapy could be used as an alternative form of treatment. The same can be utilize for the prevention of urolithiasis....
