The aim of the present study was designed to evaluate the CNS depressant activity of “levetiracetam” using different animal models. The degree of CNS depressant activity was determined by measuring the immobility time in muscle coordination test, locomotor activity and forced swim test. In this study animals treated with the doses of levetiracetam (50 and 100 mg/kg). The degree of CNS depressant activity was determined by measuring the immobility time in muscle coordination test, locomotor activity and forced swim tests. Animals treated with all three doses of levetiracetam (50 and 100 mg/kg) witnessed a decreased muscle coordination test, locomotor activity and forced swim test. This was significant when compared with control. Similarly, animals treated with diazepam (4 mg/kg), as expected to show a significant decrease in muscle coordination test, locomotor activity and forced swim test. The experimental results conclude that levetiracetam has CNS depressant activity. But in contrast to standard drug i.e. diazepam it was found to be less. Therefore the levetiracetam may be considered as CNS depressant for further study....
Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis are chronic inflammatory disorder of the intestine referred as inflammatory bowel disease. Interaction between genetic, environmental and immunological factors contributes disease investigation and profession. Investigation of receptor mediated and intracellular signalling pathway related to immune interaction with gut microbiota and genetic study in humans greatly enhance the development of genetic models and develop a hypothesis that dysregulation of immune system plays a important role in pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease. This article gives brief idea about various animal model related to different mechanism involved in pathogenesis of inflammatory bowel disease i.e. lipopolysaccharide activate immune response via toll like receptor 4....
Thyroid gland is the major endocrine gland of the body. The pituitary thyroid system is responsible for regulating daily function of many biological systems by producing thyroid hormones, the principal ones being triiodothyronine (T3) and thyroxine. Thyroid hormones (T3, T4) are essential for normal development and growth. The most common problems of the thyroid gland consist of an overactive thyroid gland, referred to as hyperthyroidism, and an underactive thyroid gland, referred to as hypothyroidism. Antithyroid agents can be effectively used in hyperthyroidism. Most commonly used anti-thyroid agents include thioamides, iodides, radioactive iodine and adrenergic blockers. Thyroid gland diseases, their treatment and screening methods of antithyroid agents are discussed briefly in this review....
Huntington’s disease is a neurodegenerative disease characterized symptoms like chorea and dementia. 3-Nitropropionic acid, a neurotoxin causes memory impairment in rats. 3- Nitropropionic acid treatment significantly impaired memory as assessed in Morris water maze. The treatment with Vinpocetine (5, 10 & 20mg\kg) significantly improved memory. The present study demonstrated that inhibition of type 1 phosphodiestera (PDE1) by vinpocetine significantly improved learning and memory following first dose of i.p. 3-NP injection in rats. The result of the present study suggests facilitatory role of PDE1 enzyme in cognitive dysfuntion following 3-NP injection....
Diabetes mellitus often simply referred to as diabetes—is a group of metabolic diseases in which a person has high blood sugar, either because the body does not produce enough insulin, or because cells do not respond to the insulin that is produced. This high blood sugar produces the classical symptoms of polyuria (frequent urination), polydipsia (increased thirst) and polyphagia (increased hunger). The present study was undertaken to monitor the effect of aspirin on heart rate variability in diabetes. The present study involves Grouping 30 animals (Wistar Rats Female) in 4 different groups such as-Normo-Glycemic Group(A), Diabetic Control Group(B), Standard Group(C), Test Group(D) (n= 6, per each group). Diabetes was induced in Group B, Group C and Group D with alloxan (100 mg/kg, i.p). Blood Sugar level was checked for confirmation of induction of diabetes initially after 3 days and also at 7 days interval (ERBA). Aspirin proved to be successful in controlling the heart rate downfalls observed in diabetes. The results are supported by the ECG. Also, the plot of heart rate against time with the values obtained during the course of study suggests the usefulness of aspirin in diabetics....

The present review is on preclinical evaluation of antiepileptic drugs which includes etiology, epidemiology, pathophysiology, pharmacotherapy involved in epilepsy. The review also includes detail information of various in vitro and in vivo models for screening of plant extract and synthetic antiepileptic drugs. These models reveal purpose and rationale, evaluation, procedure, and probable mechanism of drug action. This also includes various literatures and work done till date on antiepileptic drugs....
The purpose of the present study to investigate the in-vitro glucose uptake assay of hydromethanolic leaves extract of Syzygium jambos (L) Alston (SJM) on L6 Cell lines. Syzygium jambos (L) Alston commonly known as rose apple belongs to family Myrtaceae, It is one of the most important medicinal plant in India, Brazil. In Brazil decoction of leaves used for diabetes. Hydromethanolic leaves extract of SJM shows cytotoxic concentration (320 µg/ml) in normal cells. The present study we demonstrate that SJM enhance glucose transport in L6 myotubes, the extract possesses significant glucose uptake when compared with standard Insulin (% of glucose uptake 131±17.57) if these effects can be confirmed clinically, SJM Extract may used for prevention of DM. The presented data about hydromethanolic leaf extract of Syzygium jambos (L) Alston having activity such as enhancing glucose uptake in skeletal muscle (L6) cell lines. To conclude this study by using natural plant sources (SJM leaves) we can prevent diabetic complications such as diabetic nephropathy, diabetic retinopathy, and diabetic cancer....
Gastric ulcer is corrosive action of acid on the mucosa of the upper gastrointestinal tract. Ulcers can develop in the esophagus, stomach or duodenum. Peptic ulcer (PU) disease represents a worldwide health problem due to morbidity, mortality and economic loss. H pylori infection, tobacco smoking, and use of minor tranquillizers were the main risk factors for PU in this population. Researchers develop various screening methods for the study of antiulcer drug development. Out of this screening methods some are used widely such as pylorus ligation, NSAID induced ulcer, stress induced ulcer by immobilization and water immersion, erosion by ethanol and acetic acid. In this present review we discuss the various screening methods used for the antiulcer drug development....
To estimate antithrombotic effect of antiplatelet drugs, in collagen epinephrine treated swiss mice. Lung damage (pulmonary thromboembolism) in swiss mice treated with collagen (1.5 mg/kg) and epinephrine (0.5 mg/kg) by tail vein was studied by assessing parameters such as percentage protection. The effect of antiplatelet drugs (30 µM oral) on above parameters was investigated. These biochemical observations were supplemented by histological examination of lung sections. The data from the dose response studies were subjected to one-way ANOVA followed by post hoc Bonferroni's Multiple Comparison test. Administration of antiplatelet drugs (30 µM oral) significantly increased percentage protection against collagen epinephrine induced pulmonary thromboembolism. Histological examination of lung sections revealed less thrombi generation, after administration of various antiplatelet drugs. The study suggests preventive action of antiplatelet drugs in collagen epinephrine induced pulmonary thromboembolism....
Pluripotency is the capability of cell to develop into all of the cells of an embryo. In human body there are certain types of cells which are having this property. For example hematopoietic cells, lymphocytes stem cells etc. They can differentiate into large variety of cells with different functions but they all work together as a part of immune system. They are able to self-renew means they can create more copies of themselves. Mouse embryonic stem (ES) cells are pluripotent so they can differentiate into the various cell types of a vertebrate embryo. Pluripotency is the property of inner cell mass from which mouse ES cells are derived. This review shows that ES cells can self renew because of self organising network of transcription factors which avoid their differentiation and promotes their proliferation. This review also includes applications of pluripotency in treatment of various diseases....
