Chocolate is part of almost every child’s basket of candy, and is an indulgence for most adults at least on some occasions. Research report tracks a developing perception for chocolate that shifts from kids’ candy or a subject of high-calorie dessert-like pardon, towards a food that has medically documented beneficial properties. Its changing status embodies a unique proposition that chocolate now presents as a food with health benefits, although in a qualified manner that requires explanation. It is a matter of common knowledge and is apparent even from general reading, that chocolate contraindicated for those who are on a diet to limit calories. It is completely off-limits for people who suffer from impaired glucose tolerance or diabetes. Five latest studies suggested that chocolate consumption has a positive influence on human health, with antioxidant, antihypertensive, anti-inflammatory, anti-atherogenic and anti-thrombotic effects as well as influence on insulin sensitivity, vascular endothelial function, and activation of nitric oxide. “A little chocolate is delightful. A lot is not.” Future studies should provide detailed information about different populations or different ethnic groups in other geographical locations and from different socioeconomic levels. Besides, it is important to assess the effect of different types of chocolate, as well as the measurement and amounts....
Diarrheal diseases consistently a leading cause of preventable death, particularly among children less than five years in developing countries. It has been reported that burden of most infectious and associated diseases. The government bodies belong to health sector still take diarrheal diseases most challenging health issue especially in developing countries. It has been also reported in the study diarrhea resultant of dehydration, which is leading cause of malnutrition globally. There is a need to modify policies in this area. This could be achieved in a number of different approaches including physicians’ instructions to mothers about the disease and proper diet of children. Furthermore, participation in retraining programs could be very useful in improvement of awareness of mothers. Another way to educate the mothers is training all health care employees to promote the transmission of awareness to the patients refers to healthcare centres. Providing information through mass media and clarifying public opinion about the importance of nutrition in physical and intellectual growth and development of children may also be beneficial. Consequently, enhanced maternal knowledge would have a positive effect on their treatment of diarrhea in children. It bears repeating that we need to further education efforts in order to improve the health of children and reduce medical expenses related to diarrhoea which are imposed on health system....
The importance of nutrition throughout the life cycle is undeniable. After all, people must eat to live. However, the significance of nutrition during specific times of growth, development, and aging is becoming increasingly appreciated. Different agencies have strive hard to ensure the safety of the food supply and for making adequate nutrients available to high risk segments of the population. Among different nutrient related deficiencies, PEM is widespread among the poor of developing countries. Since animal protein is beyond the reach of this group, their primary protein supply comes from plant based products. Among these, horse gram (Macrotyloma uniflorum) commonly known as kulthi in India, is an important legume grown by small-scale farmer in arid areas of this country. It has been identified as a potential food resource of the tropics by the National Academy of Science Of USA. Horse gram is cheap and under explored legume crop rich in protein, calcium, iron and vitamins. Antinutritional factors like trypsin inhibitors, chymotrypsin, lectins, phytic acid, polyphenols, hemagglutins and oligosaccharides are present which can be reduced below their mischief potential through processing treatment. Besides this horse gram is capable to prevent Kidney stone, urinary discharges, obesity and irregular menstruation. Nourishing and therapeutic potential of horse gram if harnessed adequately, can act as a catalyst in improving the health of have-not masses....
Phycocyanin is a phycobiliprotein that has been recently reported to exhibit a variety of pharmacological properties. Which have attracted attention because of their nutritional value and medicinal properties, at present there is a mass of evidence in favor of the antioxidant properties of Phycocyanin, Studies have shown, by different experimental models, the aim of the review was to evaluate the effects of phycocyanin of S. platensis. Besides, we tried to demonstrate that one of the main components responsible for this antioxidant activity is a biliprotein phycocyanin. For this purpose, we reviewed the antioxidant activity of different fractions of the phycocyanin, through the scavenger activity of hydroxyl radical. We also observed that an increase in phycocyanin content was related to an increase in the antioxidant activity in different fractions, and therefore phycobiliprotein phycocyanin is the component mainly responsible for the antioxidant activity...
Achalasia is a primary esophageal disorder involving the body of the esophagus and lower esophageal sphincter. It occurs at any age in both genders. Normal individuals have a lower esophageal high-pressure zone, which completely relaxes with initiation of a swallow. In achalasia, residual pressures in the LES remain well above normal after swallowing; resulting in a functional outflow obstruction at the gastroesophageal junction. Etiology was idiopathic, pathophysiologic mechanism involves the destruction of the myenteric plexus responsible for esophageal peristalsis. Achalasia is a slowly progressive disease. As a consequence, patients often present late in the course of this disease, when their symptoms and anatomic abnormalities have become prominent. It is a progressive disease that presents with symptoms of dysphagia both for liquid and solid food, regurgitation as well as chest pain with but also long after meals. Esophageal manometry is the gold standard to diagnose achalasia. Treatment options like laparoscopic myotomy and pneumatic balloon dilatations of the lower esophageal sphincter are considered definitive treatments for achalasia. Recognizing the clinical presentation of achalasia is important in order to refer patients for appropriate diagnostic procedures and treatment early in the course of the disease....
Milk is one of the oldest functional foods available to mammals. From birth, mammals rely on mother’s milk for nutrition and immune protection whey is such an amazing superfood that it even contains powerful immunological factors such as glutamine, glutathione, lactoferrin, alpha-lactalbumin and the immunoglobulins Igg, Iga and Igm. These compounds contribute to immune modulating activities, such as protecting the body from foreign organisms and increasing the activity of immune response cells, in turn fighting with diseases like hepatitis, cancer, HIV, osteoporosis, ulcer etc...
