Formulations containing linezolid with or without diclofenac sodium were prepared using carbopol-HPMC and carbopol-NaCMC. Clinical studies of linezolid in-situ gel (with or without diclofenac sodium) on periodontitis have shown promising results regarding reduction of probing pocket depth (PPD) and bleeding index(BI) on intergroup comparison, None of the patients in either of the groups showed any untoward clinical changes. There was no pain, swelling and redness, but only the mild discomfort felt by three subjects. The changes from the baseline value on the 15th and 30th days for PI, PPD and BI are summarized as the control group (group C) did not show significant reductions at 15th day, whereas intragroup comparisons were statistically significant (P < 0.01) in group A and group B. The changes in Clinical attachment level (CAL) values were statistically significant (P ≤ 0.05) at all-time intervals. Similarly, a significant (≤0.01) reduction of CAL in group A and group B, indicated tissue regeneration and reattachments of ligaments in comparison with Group C (placebo)....
Replacement of missing teeth with existing diastema in anterior region is a challenging task for dentist. Various treatment options such as removable partial denture, fixed partial denture, implant prosthesis, spring cantilever etc. FPD with loop connector can be a good treatment option in such clinical situations. FPD with loop connectors maintains the even spacing between the prosthesis and enhances the natural appearance of the prosthesis. This clinical report describes the technique to fabricate three units FPD with porcelain facing and modified palatal loop connector design....
Ludwig's angina is a bilateral infection of the submandibular space that consists of two compartments in the floor of the mouth, the sublingual space and the submylohyoid (also known as submaxillary) space, first described by the German physician, Wilhelm Frederick von Ludwig in 1836. Severe neck pain and swelling, fever, malaise, dysphagia and stridor are the main symptoms. Causative organisms include many gram negative and anaerobic organisms, streptococci and staphylococci. With progressive swelling of the soft tissues and elevation and posterior displacement of the tongue, the main life-threatening complication of Ludwig's angina is airway obstruction. Prior to the development of antibiotics, mortality for Ludwig's angina exceeded 50%. As a result of antibiotic treatment, along with improved imaging modalities and surgical techniques, mortality at present averages approximately 8%....
