The worldwide economic disturbance has intensified the petroleum industrys global market\r\nconstraints in terms of price instability, excess capacity, demand shifts as well as environmental\r\nregulation. Petroleum transportation, as the central logistics operation linking the upstream and\r\ndownstream functions has been paid more attention to. This paper develops a decision support system\r\n(DSS) by combining both inventory and transportation operations in petroleum transportation system. It\r\nis based upon the integration of discrete event simulation using ARENA software and the stochastic\r\noptimal control of the inventory using visual basic applications (VBA)/transportation system. A unifying\r\nsimulation framework that integrates the simulation model and controller is constructed to simulate the\r\ncontrolled inventory/transportation system. The simulation results provide a useful tool for decision\r\nmakers to evaluate strategies and policies for the design and operation of the systems, with valuable\r\ninsights into the behavior of the dynamic and stochastic system. Additionally, it sheds some light on\r\nbusiness renovation, the effective utilization of information technology and the role of business\r\nprocess modeling in supply chain integration project in oil industry....
Supply chain management is an important competitive strategies used by modern enterprises. Effective design and management of supply chains assists in the production and delivery of a variety of products at low costs, high quality, and short lead times. Recently, data envelopment analysis DEA has been extended to examine the efficiency of supply chain operations. Due to the existence of intermediate measures, the usual procedure of adjusting the inputs or outputs, as in the standard DEA approach, does not necessarily yield a frontier projection. The current paper\r\ndevelops a DEA model for measuring the performance of suppliers and manufacturers in supply chain operations. Additive efficiency decomposition for suppliers and manufacturers in supply chain operations is proposed....
The issue of interest here is the behaviour of decision agents in supply chain management. The\r\nstudy uses a managerial framework to organize supply-related tasks to the behaviour of specific\r\ninstantiations of decision agents. The reasons why organizations might elect to invest supply chain\r\nmanagement responsibilities in decision agents rather than human functionaries are illustrated.\r\nFinally, this research presents a final construct for optimal agent-based decision making\r\nopportunities. The implication is that a shift of power from humans to computers is shown to be\r\nquite effective on technically tractable decision situations....
A supply chain is a complex network which\ninvolves the products, services and information flows\nbetween suppliers and customers. A typical supply chain\nis composed of different levels, hence, there is a need\nto optimize the supply chain by finding the optimum\nconfiguration of the network in order to get a good\ncompromise between the multi-objectives such as cost\nminimization and lead-time minimization. There are\nseveral multi-objective optimization methods which have\nbeen applied to find the optimum solutions set based\non the Pareto front line. In this study, a swarm-based\noptimization method, namely, the bees algorithm is\nproposed in dealing with the multi-objective supply chain\nmodel to find the optimum configuration of a given supply\nchain problem which minimizes the total cost and the\ntotal lead-time. The supply chain problem utilized in this\nstudy is taken from literature and several experiments\nhave been conducted in order to show the performance\nof the proposed model; in addition, the results have\nbeen compared to those achieved by the ant colony\noptimization method. The results show that the proposed\nbees algorithm is able to achieve better Pareto solutions for\nthe supply chain problem....
A multi-objective two stage stochastic programming model is proposed to deal with a multi-period multi-product multi-site production-distribution planning problem for a midterm planning horizon. The presented model involves majority of supply chain cost parameters such as transportation cost, inventory holding cost, shortage cost, production cost. Moreover some respects as lead time, outsourcing, employment, dismissal, workers productivity and training are considered. Due to the uncertain nature of the supply chain, it is assumed that cost parameters and demand fluctuations are random variables and follow from a pre-defined probability distribution. To develop a robust stochastic model, an additional objective functions is added to the traditional production-distribution-planning problem. So, our multi-objective model includes (i) the minimization of the expected total cost of supply chain, (ii) the minimization of the variance of the total cost of supply chain and (iii) the maximization of the workers productivity through training courses that could be held during the planning horizon. Then, the proposed model is solved applying a hybrid algorithm that is a combination of Monte Carlo sampling method, modified \ne-constraint method and L-shaped method. Finally, a numerical example is solved to demonstrate the validity of the model as well as the efficiency of the hybrid algorithm....
Supply Chain and Supply chain Management have played a significant role in corporate efficiency and have\r\nattracted the attention of numerous academicians over the last few years. Academic literature review discloses an\r\nimportant spurt in research in practice and theory of Supply Chain (SC) and Supply Chain Management (SCM).\r\nConnecting and informing on Supply Chain, Supply Chain Management and distribution Management\r\ncharacteristics have contributed to the Supply Chain integration. This integration has generated the approach of\r\nextended corporate and the supply chain is nowadays manifested as the cooperative supply chain across\r\nintercorporate borders to increase the value across of the whole supply chain.\r\nThis paper seeks to introduce supply Chain and Supply Chain Management. A Supply Chain and Supply Chain\r\nManagement definition, theoretical, practical and measurement analysis are proposed. Several randomly selected\r\nrefereed academic articles were methodically analyzed.\r\nA number of key findings have arisen: the field is a comparatively new one; several researchers have different\r\nperception of the discipline; the consensus is lacking on the definition of the terms: the Supply Chain and Supply\r\nChain Management are widely defined; contextual focus is mainly on the manufacturing industry; research methods\r\nemployed are mostly theoretical conceptual; the findings also suggest that undertaking a theory view could make\r\nimportant contributions towards defining the scope of supply chains. The literature review in this research proposes\r\ncritical lexicons that are mostly used in academic dissertation. These notions can be beneficial for academician or\r\norganizations that are involve in Supply Chain Management business...
One of the main factors in competitive environment is to reduce production costs. Selecting the right\r\nsuppliers significantly reduces the purchasing costs and improves corporate competitiveness. That is\r\nwhy the cost of raw materials and components part constitutes the main cost of a product and most of\r\nthe firms have to spend considerable amount of their sales revenue on purchasing. The aim of this\r\nresearch is to introduce an integrated model for suppliers selection and order allocation in an\r\nautomotive company. Therefore, the research was divided into two phases (conceptual modeling and\r\nmathematical modeling) with four steps. In conceptual modeling, in order to select the best suppliers,\r\nan integrated, Analytic Hierarchy Procees and Technique for Order Preference by Similarity to Ideal\r\nSolution (AHP-TOPSIS) approach was used. Hence, after library studies and interview with experts,\r\nmanagers and specialists in the supply chain management field, decision criteria were identified\r\nthrough brain storming which contains the main criteria and sub criteria of the selection process for\r\nsuppliers. Then in mathematical modeling in order to allocate every selected supplier in conceptual\r\nmodeling, a Multi-Objective Linear Programming (MOLP) model was used. As such, the objectives and\r\nsubjectives of suppliers and the Automotive Company were identified. Results show that applying a two\r\nphase AHP-TOPSIS methodology aided the selection of the best suppliers. Also Automotive Companys\r\ntotal costs were minimized with using a MOLP model....
In order to solve the problem of cross-border e-business export logistics, in\nthis paper, a new mode of cross-border e-business export logistics based on\nvalue chain is offered. First, the paper summed up many present modes of\nexport logistics based on cross-border e-business, such as International postal\npacket, International express. And they all cannot satisfy the demands of\ncross-border e-business. Then, the paper cites the principle of the value chain\nand discusses how to apply value chain into cross-border e-business export\nlogistics. The last part of this paper provides some suggestions....
The problem of traffic and transportation has led to frustration, loss\r\nof time, fuel and waste of effort in organizing and controlling traffic. This\r\nwasted time is as a result of slow movement with increasing delays and has\r\nled to difficulties with respect to punctuality and interviews. Also, it has\r\nextended the energy and effort and increase in the proportion of air pollution\r\nand deterioration of behavior, as well. The problem of congestion during\r\npeak hours is due to the high population density and increased transportation\r\nand the growing demand for use in its various forms. In addition, this can be\r\nseen in light of the survival networks of roads and bridges intact without any\r\ndevelopment or change to accommodate changes as a result of this increase.\r\nThe researcher in this study examined the factors and variables affecting the\r\nurban transport such as land uses in the urban area, urban development and\r\nurban sprawl horizontal and increase in the density of urban areas, as well as\r\nthe study of the elements of assessing the efficiency of urban transport\r\nsystem and the basic principles of urban transport in Misurata....
