This paper attempts to re-examine Koreas import demand behavior with an enhanced\neconometric technique and an up-to-date dataset. To achieve the goal, an autogressive\ndistributed lag (ARDL) approach is adopted. Our results show the existence of the long-run\nrelationship between Koreas imports and its major determinants such as income and price. It\nis also found that income plays an important role in influencing Koreas imports in both the\nshort- and long-run. On the other hand, price is found to have a significant impact on Koreas\nimports only in the short-run....
In a competitive industry, the exit and takeover of less efficient firms enable reallocation of resources for more\neffective use, and improve the economic efficiency of an industry as a whole. The rapidly-growing cut flower exporting\nindustry in Ethiopia recently slowed in expansion with newly entering firms, whereas the industry continued to grow in\nexport. We constructed the primary panel of the flower exporters Our analysis reveal that less profitable firms started to\nexit the industry, and that firms endowed with rich local resources were increasingly taken over and improved productivity\nand profitability....
The supplier selection problem is one of the most important constituent for managers. There are some influential criteria in the selection of supplier and in this paper selection of supplier includes quality, cost, service, risk management and supplier profile. However, it is frequently impossible to find a best supplier in all areas. In addition, lack of proper selection and evaluation of excels supplier can affect long term survival of firms. The contribution of this paper is in threefold. First, a geometric mean induced bias matrix (GMIBM), is used to quickly identify the most inconsistent data in the judgment matrix. This helps to preserves most of the original information in matrix, but also faster than existing models. Secondly, it solves the supplier selection process problem in a Kathmandu Medical College (KMC) pharmaceutical firm using analytic hierarchy process (AHP) model. AHP is a decision making method and considered a reliable model for supplier evaluation problem in KMC. At last, Development of Supplier Selection Process (SSP) shows the whole steps followed for supplier selection....
Tax evasion is the basic characteristic of many developing countries. De facto tax collections are consequently far\nbelow revenue implied by published or de jure tax rates. This paper empirically examines tax rates (tariff plus VAT rates)\nas the determinants of customs revenue evasion across products, based on a systematic analysis of discrepancies in\ntrade declarations for trading partners, United Republic of Tanzania, Republic of South Africa and China. The results\nindicate that trade gap is highly correlated with tax rates, that is, much more value is lost for products with higher tax\nrates. The results also show that the trade gap is correlated with tax rates on closely rated products from Republic of\nSouth Africa, implying that evasion takes place through misclassification of imports from higher-taxed categories to\nlower-taxed ones. However, there is no evidence of misclassification of imports from China. The wide divergences\nbetween the effective and statutory tax rates in Tanzanian tax system indicate that there is a scope for raising tax\nrevenue without increasing tax rates by reinforcing tax and customs administrations and reducing tax evasion....
