Mergers and Acquisitions (M&As;) are a frequent, alternative strategic growth option to organic growth for organisations. The failure rate of mergers and acquisitions is alarmingly high (70% plus failures). The people factor is seen as one of the main contributors to this failure.\nTo develop and validate a comprehensive, holistic model for the people integration process during mergers and acquisitions.\nThe literature on a comprehensive, holistic people integration process for mergers and acquisitions is sparse and fragmented.\nA qualitative approach was adopted consisting of a three step process which solicited the views of seasoned M&A Practioners; these views were compared against the available literature. Finally, practioners were asked to critique the final model from a practice perspective. The utility of the final model was assessed against two mergers and acquisitions case studies.\nA comprehensive, holistic people integration process model for mergers and acquisitions was developed and validated. However, this model will only significantly enhance mergers and acquisitions value realisation if it is applied from the appropriate vantage point.\nThe proposed approach will increase the probability of a successful M&A people-wise and M&A value realisation.\nTheoretically, the development and validation of a M&A people process integration model; practically, guidelines for successful people integration; organisationally, significantly enhancing the chances of M&A success; and community wise, the reduction of the negative effects of M&A failure on communities....
Citizens of high income countries rely on highly regulated medicines markets. However low income countries' impoverished populations generally struggle for access to essential medicines through out-of-pocket purchase on poorly regulated markets; results include ill health, drug resistance and further impoverishment. While the role of health facilities owned by non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in low income countries is well documented, national and international wholesaling of essential medicines by NGOs is largely unstudied. This article describes and assesses the activity of NGOs and social enterprise in essential medicines wholesaling.\nThe article is based on a set of interviews conducted in 2006-8 with trading NGOs and social enterprises operating in Europe, India and Tanzania. The analysis applies socio-legal and economic perspectives on social enterprise and market regulation.\nTrading NGOs can resist the perverse incentives inherent in medicines wholesaling and improve access to essential medicines; they can also, in definable circumstances, exercise a broader regulatory influence over their markets by influencing the behaviour of competitors. We explore reasons for success and failure of social enterprise in essential medicines wholesaling, including commercial manufacturers' market response; social enterprise traders' own market strategies; and patterns of market advantage, market segmentation and subsidy generated by donors.\nWe conclude that, in the absence of effective governmental activity and regulation, social enterprise wholesaling can improve access to good quality essential medicines. This role should be valued and where appropriate supported in international health policy design. NGO regulatory impact can complement but should not replace state action....
Over the recent past, the global market of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) has grown exponentially, while the lifespan of these products has become increasingly shorter. More of these products are ending up in rubbish dumps and recycling centers, posing a new challenge to policy makers. The purpose of this paper is to provide a review of the e-Waste problem and to put forward an estimation technique to calculate the growth of e-Waste....
As is shown in the latest achievements in scientific research and major developed countries relevant experience, industry-university-research strategic alliance serves as a crucial way to improve independent innovative ability. With such alliance being an important path to achieve independent innovation and innovative system with Chinese characteristics, government is expected to enhance its policy guidance and create favorable policy environment during industry-university-research cooperation....
Press releases are a popular vehicle to disseminate health information to the lay media. While the quality of press releases issued by scientific conferences and medical journals has been questioned, no efforts to assess pharmaceutical industry press releases have been made. Therefore, we sought to systematically examine pharmaceutical company press releases about original research for measures of quality.\nPress releases issued by the ten top selling, international pharmaceutical companies in the year 2005 were selected for evaluation. A total of 1028 electronic press releases were issued and 235 were based on original research. More than half (59%) reported results presented at a scientific meeting. Twenty-one percent of releases were not explicit about the source of original data. While harms or adverse events were commonly cited (76%), study limitations were rarely noted (6%). Almost one-third (29%) of releases did not quantify study results. Studies presented in abstract form were subsequently published within at least 20 months in 53% of cases.\nPharmaceutical company press releases frequently report basic study details. However, readers should be cautioned by the preliminary nature of the data and lack of identified limitations. Methods to improve the reporting and interpretation of drug company press releases are desirable to prevent misleading media coverage....
The main focus of this study is not to compare online and traditional face to face teaching merely to prove that which one is better, but rather it aims to highlight SWOT analysis to improve the role teachers in both methods. The study can be designed using a quantitative and qualitative methodological combination and focus on the dimensions of”theoretical content “,”practical content”, “tutor/student interaction”, and “design” of the training activity. The “face” of an e-learning course may not be an actual face, but more the overall look and feel of the design. Classrooms are teacher driven whereas an e-learning course is student driven. The teaching techniques in higher education has developed significantly influenced by two trends: promotion of active learning methods and integration of web technology in e-learning and it found that such a active teaching improves students` success, involvement and thinking skills. E-Learning is the use of technology to enable people to learn anytime and anywhere without constraint of time and space. E-Learning can include training, the delivery of just-in-time information and guidance from experts. With increasing the scope or prevalence of e-learning many cram schools have released their own instructions based on e-learning methods. The determination of such schools is to promote e-learning among student. Student who used e-learning method will be more satisfied on learning materials and learning environment compared to traditional face-to-face learning method. The SWOT strategies can be applied to the educational institute in which classic and high take unable best practices in teaching and learning process will be studies in this paper. Research shows that eLearning models are at least as good as traditional learning....
The main objective of this research is to study the impact of information technology (IT) on the functioning of commercial banks in the commercial sector. this research aims to measure and analyze how to achieve customer satisfaction level by using information technology of the customer in the selected banks and measure awareness level of information Technology and different software packages among the executive employed in the selected banks and to know the satisfaction with respect to bank loyalty in batter way with reference to implementation of information technology in the bank and to figure out behavior pattern of bank customers exhibited across product categories offered by banks. IT professionals perform a variety of functions (IT Disciplines/Competencies) that ranges from installing applications to designing complex computer networks and information databases. A few of the duties that IT professionals perform may include data management, networking, engineering computer hardware, database and software design, as well as management and administration of entire systems. The paper concludes that Information technology is taking place almost in all categories of the banks. Information Technology will helpful to cope with new economic and financial policies of the banks. Thus, even though IT management is a challenge flow in future banking scenario, and is going to be the challenge....
This study aims at investigating the influence of tactical flexibilities (mix flexibility, volume flexibility, and modification flexibility) on the competitive advantage of a firm. To address this objective, a cross-sectional survey employing a questionnaire method of data collection is adopted. The study targets operations managers, plant managers, and quality managers in Jordanian Manufacturing Companies listed in Amman Stock Exchange Market. A total of 153 usable responses are received representing a response rate of 69.5%. For the purpose of data analysis, the research utilizes multivariate data analysis using exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. The results of structural equation modeling analysis indicate significant impact of tactical flexibilities on competitive advantage. The study includes managerial implications for managers and proposes several directions for future research such as examining the role of tactical flexibilities in planning the corporate and functional strategies of a firm....
