Online monitoring of high-speed rotating blades has always been a hot topic. Of the various methods, the blade tip timing (BTT) technique, based on eddy current sensors, is considered to be the most promising. However, BTT signals are easily influenced by various factors, which means that the accurate extraction of BTT signals remains a challenge. To try to solve this problem, the causes of measurement error were analyzed. The three main reasons for the error were established: the variation in blade tip clearance, the interference of background noise, and the asymmetry of the blade tip shape. Further, pertinent improvement methods were proposed, and a compensation method was proposed for the errors caused by the variation of tip clearance. A new denoising and shaping algorithm based on ensemble empirical mode decomposition (EEMD) was introduced for the errors caused by background noise. Additionally, an optimal installation position of the sensor was also proposed for the errors caused by the asymmetry of the blade tip shape. Finally, simulations and experiments were used to demonstrate the improved methodology. The results show that the measurement error on vibration amplitude and vibration frequency using the proposed method is less than 2.89% and 0.17%, respectively, which is much lower than the traditional method (24.44% and 0.39%, respectively)....
In terms of the instability of the full-order observer for the induction motor in the low-speed regenerative mode, the low-speed unstable region which leads to the extension of the commissioning cycle cannot be eliminated by the traditional adaptive law which aims at good system performance. It is proposed that the feedback gain matrix can control both the unstable region and the system performance both. To make a trade-off between the stability and performance by designing the feedback gain matrix is still an open problem. To solve this problem, first we analyze the cause of instability and derive constraints to ensure system stability by establishing a transfer function of the adaptive observing system for the speed. Then, with the derived constraints as the design criteria for the feedback gain matrix, a control strategy combining the weighted adaptive law with the improved feedback gain matrix is proposed to improve the stability at low speed. Finally, by comparing the traditional control strategy with the proposed control strategy through simulations and experiments, we show that the proposed control strategy achieves better performance with higher stability....
This paper proposes a current sensor for wide bandgap (WBG) devices. The current of a power semiconductor device is mainly measured using a Rogowski coil, an active current transformer, and a coaxial shunt resistor. The Rogowski coil and active current transformer are not suitable for the current measurement of surface mount WBG devices due to their operating principle. The coaxial shunt resistor causes parasitic inductance. Since WBG devices are more sensitive to parasitic inductance than silicon devices, parasitic inductance may affect circuit operation. To overcome these problems, this paper proposes a printed circuit board (PCB)- embedded spiral pattern pick-up coil current measurement for WBG devices. The proposed pickup coil has high mutual inductance compared to the conventional pick-up coil, so the measurement sensitivity is high. In addition, there is no need for additional processing outside the PCB. Experimental results using a double pulse tester circuit are provided to verify the performance of the proposed current sensor....
Aiming at the frequency synchronization phenomena of oscillating or rotating bodies, this paper proposes a novel solution to address the self-synchronization problem of vibration systems. An integral mean method with small parameters and periodic coefficient (IMM-SPPC) is proposed, which converts the relative motion of the electrically driven eccentric rotor and the vibration environment into a second-order periodic coefficient differential equation. Through the calculation of the equilibrium point of the second-order periodic coefficient differential equation and the study of its stability, the synchronization criterion and the stability criterion of the eccentric rotor and the vibration environment are deduced. Thesimulation results show the validity of the deduced synchronization criterion and stability criterion. The proposed IMM-SPPC provides a new way for studying vibration synchronization....
With the development of high-speed crafts, new propulsion systems are introduced into the marine industry. One of the new propulsion systems is linear jet which is similar to pump jet and has a rotor, a stator, and a duct. The main difference between this system and pump jet is the placement of linear jet system under the hull body and inside a tunnel. Since this system, like a water jet, is inside the tunnel, the design idea of this system is a combination of a water jet and pump jet. In this paper, hydrodynamic performance of linear jet propulsion system is numerically investigated. To this end, the OpenFOAM software is utilized and RANS steady equations are solved using a k-ε turbulent model. The linear jet geometry is produced by assembling a Kaplan rotor, stator with a NACA 5505 cross section, and a decelerating duct. The results of numerical solution in the form of thrust, torque coefficient, and efficiency are compared with available experimental data for a ducted propeller, and good agreement is displayed. Subsequently, the hydrodynamic parameters are computed in two conditions: with a stator and without a stator. By comparing the results, it is observed that the total thrust coefficient of the propulsion system with a stator at all advance ratios increases by at least 40%. It is further observed that addition of a stator also improves its efficiency....
