It is a cosmopolitan disease due to the embryonic shape of Taenia of the dog echinococcosis granulose. It is the disease which puts a real problem of public health in our country. We reported a case of hydatid cyst of the liver in a 32-year-old man who originally lived in India and had migrated to Andhra Pradesh 2 years earlier. He presented with right upper quadrant pain and intermittent low-grade fever. Both sonography and computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a cystic lesion with vesicles at its periphery in segments 6 and 7 of the liver. A hydatid cyst was diagnosed. The patient underwent radical excision of the cyst with total removal without opening the wall. He also received pre- and postoperative oral mebendazole. Pathology showed a hydatid cyst consisting of three layers: the inner single nucleated geminal layer, the middle acellular laminated layer and the outer pericyst originating from inflammatory and hepatic cells. This case highlights that accurate preoperative diagnosis of hydatid disease can be made from personal history; typical sonography and CT study in non-endemic areas. A laparoscopic approach is safe in some situations. Percutaneous drainage with albendazole therapy is a safe and effective alternative treatment for hydatid cysts of the liver. Radical surgery with pre- and post-operative administration of albendazole is the best treatment option for liver hydatid cysts due to low recurrence and complication rates....
A miniature figure of studies has formerly used a restricted numeral of indicators to evaluate precise topics around pharmacy practice. A complete set of global indicators for the evaluation of GPP is still deficient. The aim of this study was to illustrate a new indicator based tool for assessment of good pharmacy practices. Descriptive indicator study conducted for a period of six months in the community pharmacies of Nellore city. The data collection form was developed in bilingual language (English and Telugu), based on the survey manual. On comparison the results are not satisfactory, primarily in terms of system indicators, followed by service indicators, dispensing indicators, rational drug use indicators and storage indicators respectively. The assessment of good pharmacy practice in community pharmacy settings in India, the results were similar but the dispensing indicators are improved and rational drug use indicators were declined. We concluded that Storage indicators are high and satisfactory. While, system and service indicators are poor and needs improvement....
Antibiotic committee in a hospital provide regular updates on antibiotic prescribing, antibiotic resistance and infectious disease management that address both national and local issues. Sharing facility-specific information on antibiotic use is a tool to motivate improved prescribing, particularly if wide variations in the patterns of use exist among similar patient care locations. The use of antibiotics needs to be improved not just to improve clinical outcomes and decrease healthcare expenditures but also to reverse or slow down resistance. Antibiotic guidelines have always played a major role in providing guidance to healthcare personnel in the management of infections. It is necessary to develop antibiotic committee in tertiary hospital in order to educate prescriber, pharmacist and nurses about good antimicrobial prescribing practice and antimicrobial resistance. Development improves review, support and plan implementation of clinical guidelines for antimicrobial prescribing....
Polypharmacy has been recognized as a risk factor for under-prescribing and pretense risks to patients’ safety and well-being. The main objectives of this work were assessment of occurrence, complications and interventions of polypharmacy and irrational use of medicines. A community based survey was conducted in the community pharmacies for a period of 6 months. Patients attending the clinics of practitioners were approached at pharmacy shops and requested to show their prescriptions and by taking prior consent of the patients prescriptions. Prevalence of Polypharmacy and irrational prescriptions were high due to reduced standards of prescribing by physicians. The issue of rational use of medicines was worse. Unnecessary prescribing can be minimized by prescribing specific medication for particular disease....
Many peoples are exposed daily to cosmetics, pharmaceutical and packaged food products. These products contain para-hydroxybenzoic acid esters (Parabens). Parabens are synthetically produced preservatives used in personal care products, food and drink, medicines and pharmaceutical preparations. Parabens are readily absorbed through the skin and the gut and excreted in urine. However, some of these compounds may be retained in the body. Parabens have been measured in blood and urine including that of pregnant women, amniotic fluid, placental tissue, cord blood and breast tissue. Parabens are also widespread in our environment. There are many forthcoming researches evidenced that Parabens and Para-hydroxybenzoic acid may act as estrogenic endocrine disruptors. Parabens may increase breast cancer risk, particularly if exposure occurs during critical periods of development. Parabens have been implicated in the proliferation of breast cancer and marine toxicity. This review has been focused on the vital role and research findings of the published literature regarding the deleterious effects of the Parabens....
