Epilepsy is a common chronic neurological disorder characterized by recurrent unprovoked seizures, is a chronic disorder involves alterations in the voltage-dependent ion channels, reduction in inhibitory. The present study was to investigate the preliminary phytochemical screening and anti-epileptic activity of ethanolic extracts of root and stem bark of Ailanthus excelsa belonging to family Simaroubaceae. The maximal electroshock seizure (MES) models were used for assessing the antiepileptic effects in rats, were standard drug is phenytoin. The plant root and stem barks were extracted with ethanol and perform the phtochemical screening, glycosides, saponins, flavonoids etc. were presented. The ethanolic root bark extract high dose (500 mg/kg) produce a significant antiepileptic activity compare with the other extracts against MES induce seizures....
Fresh flowers of Woodfordia fruticosa Kurz belongs to family Lythraceae are traditionally used in treatment of pain and inflammation in tribal area of Madhya Pradesh. The main objective of present study was to justify it folklore. After preliminary phytochemical screening various in-vitro and in-vivo test like, antioxidant activity using DPPH radical and superoxide scavenging activity taking ascorbic acid as a standard, acute toxicity study in-vivo studies analgesic activity using hot plate reaction time in rat and acetic acid induced writing test and anti-inflammatory activity by carrageenan-induced paw edema and croton oil-induced ear edema were performed. Results showed that the amount of phenolic and flavonoid compounds in both ethanolic and methanolic extracts was higher that may show antioxidant activity and these antioxidant compounds have same beneficial effect on the pain and inflammation. Result concluded that flower of W. fruticosa have some antioxidant associated analgesic and anti-inflammatory effects....
