This study looks at the role of personality towards career success among the hotel managers in \r\nNorthern states of Malaysia. Although, there is a growing body of literature on managers and \r\ntheir career success, this growing literature is rather prescriptive and logic-deductive in career \r\nsuccess. Consequently, the basic element such as personality is rather viewed lightly. Due to the\r\ngrowth and performance of Malaysias hotel industry as well as Malaysias aim to add value to \r\nthis industry, managers in this sector are expected to be under considerable pressure to \r\nperform well and succeed in their careers. Similarly, the importance of the service sector in \r\nboosting the economic development of Malaysia necessitates the need for managers within this \r\nsector to enhance their performance and succeed in their careers. This study examines the \r\neffect of personality traits towards managers career satisfaction in hotels located in north \r\nMalaysia. By using the quantitative approach as research methodology, questionnaires were \r\ndeveloped comprised of the measurement items for personality and career success. Then, by \r\nusing purposive sampling, managers were selected. Later, a total of 83 hotel managers \r\nparticipated in this research. Data analysis, however, revealed mixed results. In conclusion, \r\nalthough the relationship between personality traits and career satisfaction might seem \r\nmarginal, the effects are still worth taking into consideration....
The objective of this study is to estimate the efficiency for a group of Chilean universities. Based on\ndata envelopment analysis (DEA) technique, and taking into account the reality of the Chilean university\nsystem. A DEA model with two input variables [operating expenses and academics full time equivalent\n(FTE)] and three output variables (operating income, Institute for Scientific Information (ISI)\npublications and student enrollments) was developed to evaluate the performance of 34 Chilean\nuniversities. The empirical results indicate that 9 of each 34 institutions are efficient to financial\nperformance level, and at the research and teaching levels. In addition, these do not reveal significant\nstatistical differences, between the efficiency of public and private institutions....
This study aimed to investigate the relationship as well as the impact of knowledge oriented roles of\r\nmanagers on knowledge management process at a research based organization in Iran. The target\r\npopulation consisted of all experts in atomic energy organization of Iran (AEOI). Based on Krejcie and\r\nMorgan table, 328 statistical samples were randomly selected. Instruments for data collection were two\r\nquestionnaires which the reliability level was acceptable. The result of this study showed positive and\r\nsignificant relationship between knowledge oriented roles of managers and knowledge management\r\nprocess. Based on this research, trust builder, knowledge facilitator, knowledge leader and knowledge\r\nworker steward roles were found to be significant in predicting knowledge creation process. Among\r\nknowledge oriented roles of managers the trust builder role had high regression impact on knowledge\r\ncreation....
Electricity plays a central role in improving the quality of life in India. Even those with access to electricity in India do not always have a reliable supply. Currently protecting electricity consumer’s interest is another challenge in India. Good quality electrical service is linked to effective end use. The performance measures of state owned power utilities (SOPUs) are very important aspect of consumer services in distribution reform. This performance benchmarking process can reveal potential areas where a particular power utilities performance is lacking and point to directions for further detailed examination to identify any underlying contributing causes or mitigating factors to the performance gap. Performance evaluation of SOPU is vital quality of electricity service throughout the world. While the forms of performance benchmarking vary in the United States, Europe, Japan, and other developed countries. The standard of performance is the necessary feature for developing country like India. Utilities use quantitative measures to compare operational performance among their distribution units to assure that they provide a uniform quality of service, anticipate problems, guide capital expenditures, and increasingly to monitor their competitiveness towards customer services. Regulators rely on cross-utility studies of service quality and cost of service for a wide variety of functions every time they consider a utility’s application to increase consumer tariffs. The paper endeavored to develop a set of matrices and evaluation methods for measuring performance efficiency of SOPUs with respect to their peer group. Best and efficient SOPUs are counted and helped for further improvement for less efficient SOPUs....
The late 1980s and early 1990s were characterised by unprecedented waves of privatisation\r\nin the world. Like other developing economies, Botswana jumped into the bandwagon and\r\nlaid the legal framework for privatisation by way of promulgating a Privatisation Policy for\r\nBotswana in 2000. It is notable that despite the promulgation of the Policy, privatisation will\r\nonly commence with the privatisation of the National Development Bank (NDB) in late 2011.\r\nThis paper, relying on a variety sources; for example, newspaper accounts, personal\r\ninterviews etc traces the privatisation process beginning with the appointment of the\r\nPrivatisation Task Force in 1997, the passage of the Privatisation Policy for Botswana in\r\n2000 and right up to the aborted privatisation of Air Botswana and the recent decision to\r\nprivatise the NDB. Largely drawing from the Air Botswana saga, the paper argues that key\r\nfirsts, being the delineation of an institutional-legal framework and public education on\r\nprivatisation, either did not happen first or sloppily happened. As it is, Botswana has crossed\r\nthe Rubicon, therefore, there is no going back on privatisation. Hence, as the government\r\ngoes ahead with the privatisation of NDB, and the Botswana Telecommunications\r\nCorporation thereafter, there is a need to either do first things firstly or do them correctly so\r\nthat the privatisation project can be successfully delivered. Principally, the powers of the both\r\nthe executive and legislative arms of government must be delineated in regard to privatisation\r\nand public education must be an ongoing exercise to ensure a buy-in....
This study aimed to investigate the relationship among empowering leadership, teachers innovative\r\nbehavior and innovative climate in elementary schools. The participants consisted of 710 teachers and\r\n55 principals randomly selected from 55 elementary schools in the center of Nigde and its districts.\r\nPearson correlation coefficient and regression analysis were used for the data analysis. Results\r\nshowed that principals leadership empowerment behavior was a significant predictor of teachers\r\ninnovative behavior and innovative climate. It was determined that there was a significant relationship\r\nbetween innovative climate and teachers innovative behavior. Innovative climate was found to partially\r\nmediate the relationship between principals leadership empowerment behavior and teachers\r\ninnovative behavior....
