Workers in the oil and gas industry are exposed to numerous health risks, ranging from poor health behaviours to the possibility of life-threatening injuries. Determining the most appropriate models of healthcare for the oil and gas industry is difficult, as strategies must be acceptable to multiple stakeholders, including employees, employers, and local communities. The purpose of this review was to broadly explore the health status and needs of workers in the oil and gas industry and healthcare delivery models relating to primary care and emergency responses. Database searches of PubMed, EMBASE, CINAHL, PsycINFO, and Scopus were conducted, as well as grey literature searches of Google, Google Scholar, and the International Association of Oil and Gas Producers website. Resource-sector workers, particularly those in ‘fly-in fly-out’ roles, are susceptible to poor health behaviours and a higher prevalence of mental health concerns than the general population. Evidence is generally supportive of organisation-led behaviour change and mental health-related interventions. Deficiencies in primary care received while on-site may lead workers to inappropriately use local health services. Telemedicine and remote patient monitoring (RPM) systems have been gaining interest and received adaptation in healthcare sectors since the COVID-19 pandemic due to their efficiency and capability to deliver timely healthcare services while containing COVID-19 transmission. These systems were developed using the latest technology in wireless sensors, medical devices, cloud computing, mobile computing, telecommunications, and machine learning technologies. In this article, a realtime remote patient monitoring system is proposed with an accessible, compact, accurate, and low-cost design. The implemented system is designed to an end-to-end communication interface between medical practitioners and patients. The objective of this study is to provide remote healthcare services to patients who need ongoing care or those who have been discharged from the hospital without affecting their daily routines. The developed monitoring system was then evaluated on 1177 records from MIMIC-III clinical dataset (aged between 19 and 99 years). The performance analysis of the proposed system achieved 88.7% accuracy in generating alerts with logistic regression classification algorithm. This result reflects positively on the quality and robustness of the proposed study. Since the processing time of the proposed system is less than 2 minutes, it can be stated that the system has a high computational speed and is convenient to use in real-time monitoring. Innovative technologies can improve user usability and satisfaction in computer-based activities in the work environment, including surgeons working in the operating room (OR). A scrubbed surgeon must ask unscrubbed staff to retrieve medical images from a surgical PACS system on a monitor in a hybrid operating room. The study aimed to check users’ usability and satisfaction with the designed and developed Ortho_Kinect_OR application, which enables contactless control of access to medical images during surgery. The application also facilitates access to telemedicine applications such as intraoperative telementoring during orthopedic procedures or tele-education. The application’s usability was tested by assigning standardized tasks to surgeons for PACS and teleconferencing in the operating room. Hand gestures were recognized and translated to function like mouse buttons. Field tests conducted among orthopedic surgeons showed high usability and user satisfaction. PACS access in the operating room did not distract the orthopedic surgeon during orthopedic surgery procedures. All surgeons completed the tests and tasks without any problems. OR field test results showed high agreement among users and were very satisfactory. Junior surgeons and residents pointed out that people with average computer knowledge could use the application. It has been shown that the contactless system designed and built based on the Kinect sensor available on the shelves meets the requirements of the operating room environment and is easy to use. Touchless controller technology provides the opportunity to increase the use of intraoperative imaging previews and improve the safety of surgical patients by improving sterility and reducing unnecessary staff in the operating room. Using the Ortho_Kinect_OR application and the Kinect sensor, it is possible to provide contactless access to videoconference telementoring and PACS in the operating room without an orthopedic surgeon’s unnecessary distraction in the operating room environment....
Background: The outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic has increased telemedicine and telenursing services worldwide, developed this innovative treatment’s potential, and emphasized its importance. The constraints imposed by the pandemic breached regulatory, psychological, and organizational obstructions among both patients and caretakers. Community and hospital nursing services were forced to deal with a new reality, to provide remote care solutions for bedridden chronic patients, as the need for this grew exponentially. Despite the increase of telemedicine in recent years, so far no research in Israel has investigated the nursing staff’s perceptions of the quality of the care provided through telenursing. Objective: To assess nurses’ perceptions of the quality of the care provided through telenursing compared to face-to-face nursing. Method: A quantitative cross-sectional study among 227 male and female nurses in Israel. The questionnaire included demographic questions, and the five measures of quality of care: concern and empathy for the patient, professional treatment, response to treatment, educated use of resources, and patients’ sense of security. Results: Significant differences were found between nurses’ perceptions of telenursing and face-to-face nursing. The quality of face-to-face nursing was perceived as more positive than that of telenursing, in general, as were the individual measures of care quality such as providing professional treatment, response to treatment, and patients’ sense of security. Conclusions: Although telemedicine has increased significantly in recent years, nursing staff still perceived the quality of care and follow-up of face-to-face nursing as more positive. It is important to continue to monitor nurses’ perceptions and attitudes towards the strengths of these two treatment methods, not only in crisis situations, but among wider populations, and to investigate the factors that could influence these perceptions....
This study delves into the determinants influencing individuals’ intentions to adopt telemedicine apps during the COVID-19 pandemic. The study aims to offer a comprehensive framework for understanding behavioral intentions by leveraging the Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), supplemented by e-health literacy and social influence variables. The study analyzes survey data from 364 adults using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to empirically examine the internal relationships within the model. Results indicated that e-health literacy, attitude, and social influence significantly impacted the intention to use telemedicine apps. Notably, e-health literacy positively influenced both perceived usefulness and ease of use, expanding beyond mere usage intention. The study underscored the substantial role of social influence in predicting the intention to use telemedicine apps, challenging the traditional oversight of social influence in the TAM framework. The findings will help researchers, practitioners, and governments understand how social influence and e-health literacy influence the adoption of telehealth apps and promote the use of telehealth apps through enhancing social influence and e-health literacy....
